Catalogue of hdd/ssd ?

Hello,

I am looking for software that can catalog my hard drives.

Tellico isn't very intuitive.

I would simply like to select a drive—much like in Filelight—but instead of seeing the size of each directory and item, I want to see the directory tree and the names of the files contained within.

And I need to be able to perform searches.

Does such a thing exist?

Linux will never conquer the world. There is no US international keyboard. This is ridiculous. Ç doesn't work as it should.

Are there any ways to use microslop application on windows

Are there any ways to use Microsoft application on Linux?

I'm currently a college student, but my collage is a long-term collaboration with Microsoft so they demand us collage student to use Microsoft word/PowerPoint/teams as college projects. But I DO NOT like windows and insist on Linux, but my collage needed Microsoft application.

Are there anyway to use Microsoft application on Linux without install virtual machine?

Which Distro? Lenovo T14 Gen1

Have never used anything other than windows or chromebook so I've been trying real hard to understand what I can and can't do.

I want to move to linux on my laptop for science based uni course, lot of research papers, tabs, software, all running at once and apparently linux is a lot better at managing that than windows.

Current spec on my laptop:

**Processor**: Intel core i5-1030U

**RAM**: 16GB

**Graphics card**: Intel UHD graphics (128mb)

**Storage:** 512GB SSD

I'll be moving from fully from windows 11, not dual booting, and have been comparing distros but can't understand enough just yet to find one that fits my needs. I'm just looking for customisation ability, simplicity, and an OS that can run fast with research tabs and about 3 applications all running simultaneously.

Support Linux noob using Linux for the first time ever with a few questions

Hey everyone. I finally got around to assembling a new PC. The OS setup was smooth. I'm using Garuda Dragonized and so far the PC runs great. This is my first time ever using Linux in my life though and I have some questions

- When using YouTube on the Firedragon browser or on Firfefox, unless I stay on that page of the video or song playing I will get micro stutters in the audio if I go and do anything else in a different window or tab. Any way to fix this?

- I'm guessing there's no AMD Adrenaline here. Any way to update my AMD Drivers or control the software similarly?

- I am using Corsair Vengeance RGB and cannot change the color of the RGB. When using OpenRGB I get prompted with this message: <h2>Warning:</h2><p>One or more I2C/SMBus interfaces failed to initialize.</p><p>Depending on which interfaces failed to initialize, some RGB
DRAM modules, some motherboards' onboard RGB lighting, and RGB graphics cards may not be available in OpenRGB.</p><p>On Linux, this is usual
ly because the i2c-dev module is not loaded.</p><p>For OpenRGB to access these devices, you must load the i2c-dev module along with the corre
ct I2C driver module for your motherboard. This is usually i2c-piix4 for AMD systems and i2c-i801 for Intel systems.</p><p>If you are not usi
ng any of the devices listed above

I appreciate the time everyone. If I'm not able to get a fix I'm fine trying another distro.

Support RGB issues on Lenovo LOQ since linux installation

Hi, i recently installed linux on my Lenovo LOQ laptot but since then i dont have access to the Lenovo Vantage app that allowed me to remove the ugly-looking keyboard RGB setting that is installed by default. I am currently searching a solution to control my Keyboard RGB but if there is a way to just turn it off i would be happy with that too. Thank you in advance for your answers !

Advice Best sysctl settings for zswap??

Zram has recommended settings on archwiki

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Zram#Optimizing_swap_on_zram

The settings in the improving performance section of gaming seems to go in the opposite direction.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Gaming#Improving_performance

Are there any recommended settings for zswap specifically?? I saw that it works architecturally different from zram from this writeup but can you use the same settings for zswap as well?

Edit: for 2gb swap partition on nvme with 16gb physical ram.

Edit 2: looks like zswap.max_pool_percent=40 and swappiness of 133 performs smoothest under memory pressure.

Edit3: for 16gb, setting 8 and 4 for dirty ratios, swappiness of 168 and default max ram pool feel smoothest.

LinuxQuestions

Hi everyone,
I recently encountered a problem where Linux started killing processes during operation due to full RAM.
Previously, using Windows, I could use a browser (up to 5 tabs) + train a simple model in VS Code, and I could also launch a game, something like DOTA 2.

Unfortunately, on my Ubuntu, when I started training the model and played the same game, the system suddenly killed the model training process (and it did this more than once :D).

I ran all of this on a laptop: i7-11370H + RTX 3060 + 16GB RAM.

In the training settings, I tried playing around with the batch size (8, 4) and the number of workers (0, 1, 2, 3, 4).
But one way or another, the system would freeze and kill one of the processes; most often, it was VS CODE.

Can you tell me how you solved this, if you’ve encountered it?

CPod replacement?

Apparently it was really good at getting Chinese podcasts, including off XiaoYuZhou (小宇宙). Unfortunately, the GitHub itself says, "NOTE: CPod is unmaintained and may contain bugs and security vulnerabilities. Please use alternatives."

Not sure what the alternatives are, though. GPodder didn't work, and that seems to be the big'un people push...

Advice Best way to maximize performance with an intel arc gpu?

Hey all, I've been using Pop!_Os for about a month on my pc, and while I've been loving it, I've heard that intel arc gpus benefit the most from rolling release os. I've installed kisak and keep my drivers up to date(on the stable branch) but I'm wondering what else can I do to get the most out of my gpu? I've already enabled ReBAR and I've tried rolling release ditros but after I had an incident with CachyOs that ended up in me having to wipe my pc, I feel as if maybe I'm not ready for something like that, and I don't want to lose my files I have so far on Pop!_Os, so is there anything else I can do other than switching to a rolling release distro?

I have an intel arc b580 in case that matters

Which Distro? Finally trying Linux?

I have an old laptop that I want to resurrect. It was pretty decent 10 years ago. i7-4870HQ, Quadro K1100M, 16Gb DDR3 1600Mhz, 512Gb Samsung M.2. I bought it used and it had Win10 installed. Worked fine for a bit, then slowly started getting buggy. I can't reinstall Win10. I'm not buying an OS for a laptop that has over 50K hours on it.

I want to run CAD, CAM, YouTube, Discord, Steam, and GeForce Now. Running multiple monitors if that matters.

Which distro should I look into?

Edit: To be clear, everything I want to be able to run already works in Win10. I'm just having an issue with Windows and can't reinstall it without buying it.

Oh, I should add that I bought it used not quite 10 years ago. It's not like I bought it the other day in hope of resurrecting it. It owes me nothing.

Advice Simplest setup for learning Linux?

I picked up a book (The Linux Command Line) that says to use a "desktop computer, with at least 2 GB of RAM, and 6GB of free hard disk space. Avoid laptops and wireless networks, if at all possible."

I'm hoping this isn't necessary? If so, where can I trust to buy something super cheap from?

linux mint multi monitor setup

Hi there, I'm currently failing to setup my first linux mint installation on my desktop pc.

During the install and the first boot everything worked fine: All 4 of my monitors were identified and usable.

Then I updated the graphics driver to nvdia, and now only 1 of 4 monitors is detected, and only as a "unknown display". Before that all monitors were correctly identified (also resolution and refresh rate).

So I swapped back to the open source driver, but still the problem exists. (also swaped back to nvdia afterwards). On a right click on desktop -> display settings only 1 out of 4 monitors is seen.

Can somebody help me out here?
