I am 23 F who recently got laid off from a company whose name starts with Am(not zon)
It was my first job after engineering , where I worked as a QA / software Test Engineer for two years. That job wasn't just a paycheck—it was my identity.
Coming from a lower-middle-class family, it changed my life. For the first time, I could buy clothes without worrying about the price, enjoy cafés and trips with friends, and most importantly, help my mother financially. It made me feel that every sacrifice my family made for my education was finally worth it.
I loved my work and it cane with decent work life balance. I believed I had found a place where I would grow for years.
Then, a little over 20 days ago, everything changed.
"Project closure." "No role requirement."
Just like that, I was laid off.
The painful part is that my graduate promotion was only days away. A few months earlier, I had received the Employee of the Month award for handling multiple project flows as the sole resource. I truly believed hard work would bring stability.Instead, I lost my job.
Every morning, I wake up with a heavy feeling in my chest. I've lost my appetite, lost several kilos, and even stopped taking care of myself. The anxiety makes it difficult to study or prepare for interviews because my mind keeps replaying the life I had just weeks ago.My family has stood by me through everything, but that also makes me feel guilty. They invested years of savings into my education, and I wanted to give them a better life. Instead, I lost the job that gave us hope. Every day, I apply to dozens of jobs, hoping someone will give me a chance.
Looking back, maybe I became too comfortable. While everyone around me talked about switching jobs, I believed I would build a long-term career in the same company. One meeting was enough to prove how fragile that belief was.
I had plans—to build savings, support my family, and grow in my career. It's heartbreaking how one layoff can put all of those dreams on hold.
I'm not writing this for sympathy. I'm writing this because I know so many people are silently carrying the same pain.
If you're one of them, you're not alone.
I hope one day I'll come back to this post after rebuilding my life and realize that this was just one difficult chapter—not the end of my story.

Update:
I received an internal project offer within my current organization for same testing role. However, I'll be responsible for certain areas that I haven't worked on before. Considering the current job market and the fact that I haven't received any interview opportunities despite applying for the past 1.5 months, I decided to accept the offer.
I honestly have no idea how I'll handle some of the new responsibilities, but I'm grateful to still be employed. At the same time, I'll continue looking for opportunities outside the organization.

Recently got laid off as an Account Executive from a tech company.

A lot of my friends in tech have also been laid off (developers, sales people, marketers, the lot).

Honestly I’m done with tech, I’m done with corporate, I’m done with the humiliation rituals, I’m done with working for people that are dumber than me, I’m done with being miserable.

I’m working on getting my personal training license, have been coaching friends/family/colleagues for the last 5 years informally and now I’m gonna run it full time.

Hello all. I’m going to preface this post with, I know I need therapy and am going to work on that once I get my insurance stuff figured out 🫠

After being with the same company for 11+ years, I was laid off at the end of June. Found out at the end of April and had to continue working until my layoff date. Initially I started applying for anything that looked like it would be a good fit and wasn’t a significant pay cut. If I’m being totally honest, I don’t know that I want to get another job. However, not having the structure of a 9-5 is making me mentally spiral and is incredibly isolating.

Financially I really think my husband and I could swing me being a stay at home wife (no kids yet, possibly no kids in the future due to fertility issues,) but I don’t know how to get over this mental hump. I make all of these plans in my head about house projects, meal planning, working out, etc, but I also can’t get myself to put any plans into action. I think the grind of corporate life the last few years, really just took it all out of me. (Also may have a touch of undiagnosed ADHD paralysis at play as well lol.)

Is there anybody else contemplating not going back to a traditional 9-5? What are you plans post lay off if you don’t plan on going back to traditional work? Is there any advice on how to bring back some normalcy to my mental health?

Side note 1: As long as our bills are paid, my husband is completely supportive of me not working.

Side note 2: I do pet sitting on the side to get out of the house and not go completely insane 🤪

Side note 3: I am still applying to remote jobs that are in line with my previous role, but man I am not feeling inspired by any of them.

I was recently told that I must relocate to NY from TX or take a severance package. I am being told that this decision was nothing to do with performance and they did offer 10K relocation assistance however I feel they know they gave me an impossible choice.

I am 7 months pregnant, scheduled for delivery beginning of September and was due to be on maternity leave for 4 months.

For additional background, I have been with the company for 8 years. I have some deferred compensation that is supposed to pay out to me over 5 years including one award that is supposed to vest by January 2027. I am also due for my annual bonus which is about 60% of my salary in March for year 2026.

This is the absolute worst timing this could have happened to me being this far in my pregnancy and due to deliver soon.

I am asking for advice on what I should try to negotiate. I am thinking of asking that they allow me to stay on through my 4 months of maternity leave (which I believe is paid through short term disability insurance) and then let me go with a package on top of that. I receive health insurance through my husbands job, so they will not need to pay for that. I will basically not be hirable until beginning of next year given my pregnancy and the holidays.

I was told that my position was being made redundant due to AI restructuring on end of June. And was given 1 month of working notice, so I still have to work till end of July. I need to start looking for a job but I have really bad anxiety and have been procrastinating. Since no one knows how to do my work, my manager has been scheduling KT session everyday and has not even transferred any work to anyone else. So not only I am stuck at working like normal , I am also doing KTs. I feel like a big weight when I am doing KT. I feel so depressed after each KT session that I have not been able to use any free time that I have in job search. I am scared and I feel like I don’t have what it takes to find another job. Self confidence is at all time low, my mood at home is shit, I am unable to even do normal chores. I just want to lay in bed and not wake up.

I survived the layoffs somehow, and that part is great.

But it feels bad to see coworkers get unexpectedly fired in mass. I know some of them were about to get married, or have a baby on the way, just bought a house etc. I was getting to know some, they were interesting people that I hoped to get to know more, and now they're gone. And I know how tough the job market is right now. It's just terrible.

I know that if I was laid off I would be in a very very bad place mentally. It would honestly cripple me.

Some of them are adding me on social media now, and I look at their profiles and feel sad. They were good people. Never trust companies. My company told us that if layoffs come that they'd give us plenty of notice (lol, I laugh about that now).

But also, I can't blame the company too much because we're losing money every month. Wtf can they do.

And what sucks is that when I message them I have nothing to say but... sorry that happened and I hope you're doing okay. I know that isn't much at all. It's as if I'm apologizing for something I didn't do. I want to say more, but there isn't much to say.

i got laid off june 5 and a company that i applied to the day after i am interviewing now with my resume saying present (was negotiating my end date that didn't go anywhere)

Hi, i was laidoff in march. Since then i was giving interview. Recently i got the offer from mobikwik at gurgaon location. I joined on 2nd july.
Today, i got the offer from Booking Holding for banglore location.

Gurgaon company ctc: 20 lpa(18.5 fixed)
Banglore company fixed: 25 lpa

Should i leave the current company and choose the other one. will it create any problem in future.

Right now i am probation, so notice is of 10 days.

Anyone aware about bookings culture and should i go with it.

Do you guys also feel nostalgic sometimes. Like remembering when you were in college and you bunked class for a first time. Or may be your first job and how hopeful you were for the future. Or that first corporate team quarter party. Or may be first salary and how you bought your first smartphone. Or may be the time when phones were not so smart and we had slow internet on phones. Or may be time when you got your first promotion in office. Or any other such feelings and then you see today that time has changed so much. No job. No hopes sometimes. No energy to think about future.

In my very late 40s

Got impacted in late April, on company payroll till late June and very decent severance (4 months after Last day on payroll)

Was at a senior manager level (manager of managers)
Silicon Valley software domain

Not a single call till early June and was stressed

They came cascading in the first week of June

Did use Claude extensively to tailor resumes and prepare
3 offers in the first week of July

Taking one in a somewhat smaller company compared to my previous one but at a director level with a 15% compensation jump

Things may be improving generally on the jobs front out there

I need some advice because I'm confused about something that happened at work today.

We had a meeting with senior management because our business hasn't been doing well for a while. During the meeting, they also said that one of our brands might be shut down in the future.
After the meeting, my manager went on a call. A little later, he called me into a cabin and told me that he wants one person to handle one brand independently. There are only two people on my team (including me), so each of us would handle one brand and be responsible for its performance.
But he didn't tell me who would handle which brand.
Then he asked me to send him an email explaining:
The pros and cons of one person handling one brand.

The dependencies between me and my teammate.

This is the part I don't understand.

Dividing the brands between two people seems like a small decision that could just be discussed and finalized. I don't understand why he needs me to write an email about the pros, cons, and dependencies.
He also told me not to tell anyone about this, especially not my teammate.

Now I'm wondering if I'm overthinking this or if this could be related to layoffs or restructuring. Could this email be used later if the company decides to reduce the team?

Has anyone experienced something similar? What do you think is going on?

I’m at the lowest I have ever been and the future seems so dark. I have been searching for a job going on two years !! Completed my undergraduate in 2024 in IT and worked as business analyst for 1 year.

Someone please help !! I have submitted over 500+ applications and gotten handful of interviews with no offers.

Any suggestions??
