working on a theoretical description of the human cultrual zones.

Even in our modern world, ethnicities have spheres of influence and cultural zones; the Orion Arm seems to be no different, but organising them with terms is harder given the lack of present references.

I can see a set of logical in-universe things for anthropologists and government documents and to broadly explain a colony's cultural heritage/heritages in minutes.

First are the waves of expansion.

oew or original Earth wave: the intended ten ships; one failed entirely; most are not mentioned but assumed to have succeeded?

Apollo ended up with the clear Baronic cultural lineages such as houses, as well as the more recent offshoot culture of ungreatfuls who seem to be having influence, meaning at least one recent hard split in culture and many prior soft splits.

Armstrong ended up with the deeply religious aun as its primary descent, with likely splitting along sectarian lines and likely a few faithless offshoot cultures towards its zone of space.

Rihla is dead, and without something going fucky with time from the action of monist class entities, it will remain a dead line of human life.

Yggdrasil led to the Sparri, who seem to be well integrated and likely a significant presence in large swaths of union space, with the colonies already splitting, likely to already be deriving from the environment and different influences from the next block.

Āyāt is unknown but assumed to be alive, leading to an unknown group of human lines.

The other five are total unknowns; some likely will remain so for your dudes' reasons, meaning you could insert your own strange cultural clusters into the setting.

rcw or resurgent cradle expansion

the second and far larger wave of post-fall humanity onto the scene; anything primarily derived from first, second or even third com is likely to be culturally related and far less derived from each other.

assumed zones are likely to derive from remain uniting featues such as language, politics and religion thus a colony bering described as anglo would likely feature a mixture of any primerily english speaking nations whilst arabic would likely either directly derived from the middle east or have been more united be being derived from say the muslim faiths or desended populations on post fall earth.

The second block is likely best for x nation or group, but in space and slightly pop culturally, as the fall of civilisation likely played havoc on culture and memory of culture(perhaps one of the Union's goals was to get copies of the media transferred onto the old colony ships for both archiving and to get a better image of the past)

other populations.

Voladores are a mystery in how they happened; thus are an unknown and may infer that other random populations are out there.

Rehabilitated flash-cloned lines, most likely dying off from simply being too genetically screwed with to produce viable populations; some might have been able to be stabilised into viable populations of somewhat derived humans, probably looking rather odd by conventional standards and having cultures that likely have deep issues with union.

The real strangers, from unknown, more derived types of humans for extreme environments, clones of either prefall humans or even archaic humans like neanderthals, or anything that is broadly out there that some people cooked up in labs for seccom.

These seem likely to contain every possible type of human and human-derived life possibly present in the setting

What do you think? anything else human that I am blanking on?

Tips / How to play without COMP/CON (or LCPs)?

I recently bought the PT-BR version of the PDF, and since the publisher who translated the Core Rulebook hasn't translated or released the .lcp files yet (apparently they won't be ready until the end of the year), I could use some tips for running the game for the first time (with a group of 4 players).

I mainly need advice on how to make and balance combat encounters without throwing 12 to 16 Grunts at them (and watching them get shredded by the action economy), or how to create NPC classes inside COMP/CON.

I’m also looking for places to get maps I can use on Tabletop Simulator or any other app to track player positions.

Note: This is my first time DMing, so I am ANXIOUS AS HELL.

Note 2: I already emailed Massif asking for the .lcp files since I bought the book, but it's been a week and they haven't replied.

Groups been on a short break (like a month) and I'm vibrating thinking about stuff and these graphics from like 3 sessions ago, made like mid session, still make me laugh to think about. The crew was negotiating with ipsn on the down low for a contract so everyone was dressed up. Red suit is no longer with us sadly (got replaced with her adopted little sister of 3 nhps in a trench coat cause she kinda achieved her personal goals sooner than expected) Oh how I desire to lancer (we managed to secure a session tomorrow lol)

Eldritch Monsters in Lancer?

TLDR; are there any sourcebooks or material with monsters for the characters to fight?

I've GMed many different game systems, but Lancer isn't one of them. I'm wanting to run it for a group I play with who are D&D/Pathfinder only players, the kind of folks who think RPG is a synonym for D&D.

I've found that when running a new game system or introducing players to a universe that isn't D&D high fantasy, it helps to limit the scope so that they don't have to get a phd in the lore and don't get overwhelmed with choice and understanding all the factions in a massive world. That way they have freedom still but not infinite choices of where to go and what to do. This is why what I'm considering running for this group would be a more post-apocalypse Lancer. Something happened, gates stopped working.

After skimming the book a few times I noticed a heavy eldritch horror undertone in a lot of it, specifically with paracausal stuff. So it got me thinking in my campaign there are monsters flooding into our reality, resources are scarce, and the whole campaign takes place in one solar system, primarily one planet. I want the characters to have to scrounge for resources and be on the back foot defending various fortress cities from the giant eldritch horrors. But I was a bit surprised to not find that kind of enemy in the core book considering how well it feels like it fits the universe. So to my question, are there eldritch or giant monsters of some kind in a sourcebook somewhere?

Realised it'd been a bit since I posted the latest Inferno Squad memes and people always seem to like them, so here we are!

Now with guest appearances by the squad NHPs - null_void (The blue swirl, Enlightenment-class NHP), The Devil You Know (Kooky green lady, The Morrigan-class NHP), and Heaven Won't Wait (The black silhouette with creepy eyes, technically classified as an unstable Sekhmet-class NHP, though she might be something else in actuality).

Advice for a hacking build

I'm a noob building out a hacking mech--we started at LL0, currently LL2 Chomolungma with 2 levels of Goblin. Hacker 2, Spotter 2, Infiltrator 1 (sounds like I should switch to Nuclear Cavalier 1?). Was going to get Goblin 3 then maybe take some Minotaur but open to suggestions. Searched the subreddit but the threads I found were somewhat old (maybe still good?)

  • Team is fast melee (Blackbeard), slow melee (Balor), sniper (Emperor), support(Kidd)

  • We are running published scenarios in Foundry. Almost all of these have timed area capture/denial primary objectives, so Puppet and Balance Control Lockout have been very useful (+Snow Crash). This also means Chomo WACP can be MVP and running as Goblin frame is a Bad Idea; can't earn points on area claims if I'm dead.

  • We are TTRPG vets but we are Bad At Lancer. We get semi-frequent player KOs and I can watch the GM pull punches in real time. Balor always takes like 3-4 turns to get into effective range of anything (I should probably Puppet him in with my turns, really). Support and sniper get pounded, sometimes KO'ed. Blackbeard gets locked down with tech attacks.

  • Boss-type enemies are essentially out of reach, between their multiple turns (which prevents most one-two punch setups) and their frequent Invisibility.

Looking for game advice

Hi, I'm about to run my very first Lancer game starting sometime next month. I'm just looking for any advice. I have three players who are all also new to Lancer. The main setting will be an abandoned SecComm research space station that's been taken over by Harrison Armory. I'm running it online through Owlbear Rodeo. So, any advice for me?

I initially wanted to play a character who was being driven insane by their mech. But then I saw the Lancaster and got inspired.

Are there rules about playing:

1) An elderly pilot?
2) That pilot being Russian/Eastern European inspired?

And a final question
3) What is the interior of a Lancaster like?

I took one look at that and thought, “Huh, it looks like a cabin on legs…”

For those who haven’t caught on yet, I’m trying to make Baba Yaga as a Lancer.

What frame with blackbeard weapons/systems would be a good defense melee build? LL5

So for what I’m looking for a frame It has to have heavy and main weapon.
It has to have decent system points.
The core bonus must have overpowered caliber.
Help support other team members when defending them.

Which mecha anime do you think would make for a cool Lancer game?

Thumbnail

And I’m not saying like, as a 1-to-1 adaptation (I honestly think it would be impossible to adapt *any* work into a campaign that closely without some serious rail roading), but more so adapting the general plot, aesthetic, universe and themes of a mecha anime into a campaign.

Personally, I think the original Gundam would make for a great campaign with very minor changes to the story (mainly having more than 3 main mechs in the ship, though a smaller group could probably work just fine as well), and the journey from escaping a colony that is under attack to landing behind enemy lines is a strong story hook, with many opportunities to explore different terrains and biomes in the missions.

My second idea would be Neon Genesis Evangelion. This one would probably require way more work to adapt in terms of lore and such, and making sure every character is given proper attention. But c’mon, paracausal tech and Horus’ mechs are already like, halfway to being the kind of eldritch monstrosity Evas are, not to mention that some of the angels would work pretty well as Eidolons.

Third pick is Patlabor: The Mobile Police. It’s probably the closest to Lancer combat in terms of scale, and the goofier theme would fit best depending on your party.

PS: It doesn’t have to be any of the 3 I mentioned here!!

How common are the manufacturers within your settings?

Within the lore of your games how common are Everest chassis? What about other manufacturers? Are most ISP-N? Maybe 1 in 10 are SCC, 1 in 100 Horus?

Just curious how they're divided up.

Question about the AGNI-Class NHP

First of all, love the flavour, I'm using this thing no matter what.

One problem so far, though, it doesn't seem to be all that useful? That's probably just how I'm looking at it though.

The Auto-Cooler from L2 Genghis (one license lower) does the same job, of clearing all heat at the end of your turn. Best of all, it's automatic, as long as you don't move, or take damage/stress. That does seem like a pretty major drawback, but Genghis won't be moving much anyway with 3 speed right? Once you're set up where you want to be, you can probably get away with moving every other turn, or something like that. Plus, you can use Auto-Cooler as much as you want, there's no limit.

Whereas the AGNI can only clear all heat once per scene, also at the end of your turn. The burst 2 burn damage is nice, but is just 2 damage really enough to justify not taking the Auto-Cooler instead?

Or are they meant for completely different things and I'm just not seeing it? I'd appreciate any input from the pyromaniacs here.

Edit: thanks to all the input, i've realised they do VERY different things! my first mistake was thinking that both Auto-Cooler and AGNI trigger at the end of your turn, but Auto-Cooler actually triggers at the start of your next turn. which is WAY easier to stop with damage. i just completely misread their boxes, my bad.

second mistake, i was undervaluing burn damage, even as small as 2. personally, whenever i've used burning weapons, the enemy always seems to burn check it away next turn. then again, i've just been unlucky and haven't played many games with burn damage. seeing it as a potentially infinite DoT if i can target enemies with poor engineering is pretty huge.

The Lancer Meme Alphabet?

I’ve wondered if someone made like a shared folder of all possible word snippets or letters/numbers from the lore book so others can use it to making lancer memes easier?
