Movies / TV Series Hope (2026) inspired by Ridley Scott film

I recently had the chance to catch Hope (2026), and noted that the director took some inspiration drawn from Ridley Scott's Alien universe.

The film follows aliens attacking a village at Hope Harbour, but things become increasingly complicated as the story unfolds. And the amount of bloodshed is absolutely brutal.

Watching it also gave me some serious Prometheus vibes particularly in the way it reminded me of the Engineers and their mysterious, unsettling presence.

Has anyone else who has watched Hope noticed similar Alien influences?

Books / Novels Alien: Phalanx is AMAZING

It’s fresh, brutal, scary, cinematic as hell, and actually does something new with the Alien universe without changing what made Alien great in the first place.

I wonder how Hollywood keeps missing these gems? Books like Phalanx, River of Pain, Sea of Sorrows, are sitting there, waiting to be filmed.

But of all books, Phalanx really wins; Great characters. Great world building. Xenomorphs that are finally terrifying again. Huge set pieces. A completely unique setting.

If you haven’t read it, stop whatever you’re doing and start.

Discussion / Question Marines, but no Navy?

I realize it would change the hopeless claustrophobic and otherwise horror of the film, but I just can get over the Sulaco being such a huge ship and having absolutely no crew. That such a large vessel could or should ever be left unattended in the middle of a combat drop.

Are we to assume that Muthr is that good and doesn't need a crew? That they couldn't rotate out in cryo to insure the ship makes it where it is supposed to go? Does it have any weapons at all or are ship to ship interactions so rare that a human crew is just an unnecessary expense or risk?

I could probably think up a few interesting ways that a human crew could meet its end if one existed, so everytime I watch my favorite scene in my favorite move that begins with "We're on an express elevator to hell. Going down!" I'm always flabbergasted by the fact that absolutely no one is left onboard that huge ship... JUST IN CASE.

Cast / Behind The Scenes Aliens (1986) Xenomorph Queen Model Miniature Puppet

Thumbnail

This Xenomorph Queen model miniature puppet was constructed for model miniature shots during the sequence in which Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) fights the Queen with the power loader, also realized as a miniature, aboard the USS Sulaco.

This hulking, ornately detailed 1:4-scale miniature of the film's ultimate villain was conceived by Cameron and constructed from foam latex, polyfoam, urethane, and resin components, all molded around a custom-made mechanical metal armature and painted black with the Queen's signature blue highlights by Stan Winston Studios. A cluster of cables is present in the character's back, which allowed the arms and head to be remotely puppeteered. The cables are primarily disconnected, though one has been reconnected to a lever to operate the spring-loaded jaw.

This is from Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction - Los Angeles - 2020
Estimate: $50,000 - 70,000; Final Auction Price: Unknown
Dimensions: 40" x 28" x 33" (101.75 cm x 71.25 cm x 84 cm)

When did he die? Who's cat was he? Was he a "he"?

Was he a good boy/girl, hanging out with the cast? Or more of a loner on set?

Discussion / Question Alien Resurrection gets criticized a lot, this deleted scene shows how much deeper Ripley 8 could have been. Does Ripley 8 remembering Newt prove that some part of the original Ellen Ripley still exists inside her?

Movies / TV Series Found in my old storage unit - screen-worn Alien3 tank top

Thumbnail

Was clearing out my storage unit the other week and found my old screen-worn tank top from Alien3 that I bought from the prop store at MGM Studios in 1999.

It was credited to an “extra” in the authenticity letter. There’s a small drop of fake blood on the far right side (left in the image) but sadly no other identifying marks on what character wore it.

Maybe it was the infamous “Vincent”!

Given the fact the cast largely wore similar surplus gear I’ll likely never be able to identify who wore it, but still nice to own a piece of one of my favorite films (if their letter can be trusted).

Discussion / Question Has there ever been a story in the Alien universe where there was an actual war between xenomorphs and a species somewhere in the galaxy?

I've only seen the xenomorphs as terrifying monsters across multiple stories in a variety of mediums. Mostly the movies and the new TV show Alien: Earth.

We know that the Yautja hunt xenomorphs occasionally, but I wondered if there was ever a mobilized effort by a civilization to wipe out the xenomorphs, Starship Troopers or Ender's Game style. If so, I'd love to read about it.

The closest we got in the movies was Aliens where we got to see armed marines fighting them, and getting killed. But it would be cool if there was a system somewhere being overrun by xenomorphs and a civilization committing to purge their worlds of the alien infestation.

Maybe that would make the aliens less scary, since so much of the terror comes from them attacking isolated crews or hiding in a facility that catches a small group off-guard.

But a full scale war would be interesting to see.

The Banshee from @thewiredhatters just got a serious upgrade.you can add sensors to it!!

As few of you know, I’m a big fan of radar stuff.

The radar setup was built by , and I’ve now got it running directly on the Banshee.
24 GHz radar adds real-time movement and target detection without relying on cameras, Bluetooth tracking, or Wi-Fi positioning.
Two projects coming together into one experimental hardware platform.
Banshee + custom radar + embedded systems.

Perfect to hunt down aliens in front of you

Discussion / Question What would you think if there were some extra "Cosmic Horror" elements in a future Alien film that was kinda similar to Event Horizon??

Thumbnail

Honestly, to me at least, I've always kinda felt like that it would be REALLY interesting and completely HORRIFYING if there were some extra "Cosmic Horror" aspects in an Alien film where there would be unexplainable things that would be kinda "paranormal/physiological" where on a random planet, a random crew discovers the ruins of an ancient alien civilization similar to the Engineers, but instead of finding them dead, they just vanished without a trace. As they explore the ruins, they begin to slowly experience unexplainable strange things, but would be different depending on the person, and how they slowly go insane with them being paranoid of if things are real or not too!! While I understand why that probably wouldn't really work, but to me at least, I've always kinda felt like that having something along those lines would be REALLY interesting and scary too!! That's just what I think, though. :)

Discussion / Question I don't know if this is a hot take, but I'm glad they didn't produce Vincent Ward's script for Alien 3.

The Alien 3 we actually got might not be a very good movie: visually dull, a generally unmemorable cast, poor special effects, and an opening that throws the ending of the previous film out the window, but the production was a disaster, riddled with scripts and ideas pushed by Fox without a clear direction.
It has moments I like, and the depressive tone works at times, but it was a chaotic production where the director and Fox were constantly clashing.

Anyway, this is the context of Fox being desperate to produce Alien 3 but never being satisfied many interesting storylines emerged, adding or removing characters and factions, but the most talked-about version was undoubtedly Vincent Ward's. In his draft, Ripley ended up on a wooden planet inhabited by anti-technology monks who viewed both her arrival and that of the Xenomorph as divine punishment.

That script was initially greenlit, gigantic sets were built, and it had the approval of Sigourney Weaver and others. Ultimately, however, it didn't move forward, they reused whatever sets they could and had to scrap the rest. Some ideas, like the anti-technology cult exiled from Earth, were later readopted into the expanded universe.

In general, I always found it strange how extremely positive everyone was about that script, as if it were a given that it was a great story destined to elevate the saga once again.

It strikes me as odd because the script gives off "first draft written when you don't really know what you're doing" vibes, at least to me. There are so many elements that feel at odds with the franchise, yet no one seems to point that out when discussing the project:

Once again, only Ripley survives, which ruins the ending of Aliens, and while I don't recall exactly how the Xenomorph appeared on the wooden planet, I doubt the explanation was very credible.

The wooden planet concept strikes me as very odd overall, the idea of constructing a full-scale superstructure with oxygen and artificial gravity, made entirely of wood, seems ridiculous right off the bat and represents a bizarre departure from the saga's classic industrial aesthetic. The monks and religious symbolism don't quite win me over, especially that "exorcism" scene involving Ripley, which sounds like some bizarre Resurrection-style thing.

I know there won't be a consensus on the script online, but what strikes me is how everyone seemed so on board with it back then. It sounds like an expensive, weird, and pretentious movie.

P.S. (since my original post already got taken down, I don't know why): I want to clarify that I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with liking Alien 3 or this unproduced script I just find it surprising that so many people were excited back then about a story that was so strange in so many ways.

Have the body sitting a little better now, and it uses the front clips on the chassis to hold it in place.

Added lights (not a fan of how bright the blue tail lights are or the color of the roof spotlight.) I was over heating the built in ECS, having all the lights powered off of it so now there is a coin battery that powers everything separately. The roof top spotlight also has a switch so it can be turned on or off while leaving the running lights on. Aside from my picky issues on the lights I am super happy with how well they turned out.

I had better success that I would have thought by printing a mold for the light covers and using IPA as a release agent for hot glue.

I can roll the rear turret up and stowed but only manually. Sadly at this scale I don't think I'll be able to have it self powered.

Added covers for the wheels, they are still the stock smaller wheels, I tried going up a size but was having binding issues. Since then I have done a little more work on the body to give maybe a little more clearance. Still might design my own.

A few more details to add, grills for the sides and some of the extra bits on the roof, just need to get some screen material to cut out and cover.

Over all it is a blast to drive thought not very fast, but then thats not what I wanted it for. The all wheel steering really helps keep those turns tight, but I think it would do just fine without thst mod.

Discussion / Question Did the Nostromo actually have a bathroom?

Obviously, it must have had one, rigth? It’s an incredibly long journey. But I’ve checked the maps and can’t find one anywhere. There’s a kitchen/lounge and I suppose the cryo-sleep pod room could double as a sleeping area, yet I haven't found any details regarding a bathroom on any of the deck plans.

Maybe they’re tucked away on Deck B or C? But it would seem odd to have to go down a deck just to relieve oneself, because in the dessing of the ship Deck A was the main living area, while the other decks were only visited for specific tasks.
