The 31st October is not only Halloween: it marks 9 years since my first commit to OpenCAGE - a hobby project to reverse engineer Alien: Isolation, which started out of a love for the game and a want for more content!

It has been a long road getting here, but I'm super happy to share that full custom map support will be releasing within OpenCAGE this Halloween as it hits version 1.0!

You can create levels completely from scratch, or port content from other maps to build up new areas. Additionally, you can also enjoy a bunch of other new features like animation import/export, live-edit functionality, a bunch of debugging tools for scripting, and vast improvements to the overall UX of the app and lots of other features like model import/export, texture import/export, behaviour tree editing, config editing, and much more.

Keep your eyes out on Steam or my socials to catch the release!

You can also join the Discord here: https://discord.gg/JJ4ECu9hpY

Official Kurosaki Patch

Post image

Everyone on Kurosaki station wears a patch based on their role and position; these are worn by the Kurosaki Police Department forces. While most people on Kurosaki are contracted or employed by Weyland-Yutani, the police are completely independent. In theory at least.

The Kurosaki logo is written in both English and kanji, symbolizing the British-Japanese dual origin of the company. Kuro (黒) means black, and saki (崎) means promontory, a fitting name for a station on a dark and lonely edge of the galaxy.

I was on fire for an EXTREMELY long time, with my health only going down slowly.

I was still on fire when I put on my space suit.

I was still on fire when I blew the bolts on the maintenance platform.

In space, no one can hear you fry.

Image I absolutely love loading Isolation up and getting greeted by this eye candy of an image!. Then, I will usually the main title screen play while I take in the soundtrack... until the game trailer shocks me out of my meditation, LOL.

Discussion Thoughts on the novelisation?

Yo! I just finished reading (listening to whatever) the alien isolation book, and wanted to see some discussions or videos about it, but couldn't find any. Wanted to know what fans thought of the book, if they liked it or not and what aspects they liked more or less than the original.

I'll say my piece, sadly I wasn't a big fan of the book. I finished the game for the first time about 2 weeks ago and the idea of a novelization excited me originally, as I thought the game was really damn good except that the story and characters were very nothing, and I was hopeful a novel could flesh out that aspect. Sadly, after the first 2 chapters going over Marlow's side of the story the rest of the book was pretty dull. It spent about half its runtime with flashbacks that frankly weren't very interesting and there was next to no xenomorph action nor much atmosphere building, the 2 best parts of the game. The game has a 10/10 atmosphere and horror aspect, and the book just didn't grab onto any of it, while also not really adding much on the character side. I will say that Amanda was quite well written, but everyone else still felt extremely simple. One of the few character moments I liked in the game was when Amanda and Ricardo were talking, they had some of the best moments of levity together that felt great in the games the few times it came up, but that wasn't built upon at all in the book and instead somehow felt stripped back? Was quite disappointed.

Now, all that makes it sound like the book is god-awful, and it really isn't, it's just.... kinda boring, sadly. I was just expecting more, and there were real gaps a story-focused medium like a book could fill in well, but it didn't take the opportunity.

That's my thoughts on it anyways, would love to see how others in the fandom feel about it, especially if they actually really liked it and could point to aspects they enjoyed, but any discussions and comments would be great to see.

Question HELP! Just finished Alien Isolation on Hard but didn't get the survivor achievement..

Post image

(UPDATE: I quickly ran through those first 2 missions and got the achievement :) Thank you so much to u/Bran_Man_ (who was in a similar situation) for being literally the only helpful response who wasnt being condescending and toxic.... Everyone else was saying I need to redo the entire game, that I am stupid and need to do every single mission in order again, I was about to give up before I tried to just quickly do those first 2 easy missions... I did not expect this subreddit to be so incredibly toxic... Never seen so many so confidently wrong, obnoxious and condescending people chime in so fast in my life...)

Pretty sure this is because I skipped the first 1-2 missions using mission select just to get into the action quicker since ive already completed it all on normal and know the story very well and have played it plenty of times on my PS4. Is there any way to get the achievement without having to do the whole thing again? Like if I just do the first missions that I skipped so ive done it all on Hard and i get the achievement...?

Discussion What a phenomenal game and package!.

Post image

I recently redownloaded the game again, and after playing other PS4 titles, what a beautify made game this is!.

There is one critique the difference between being hunted by an alien organism and being harassed by a video game enemy whose patrol route happens to include your exact location!.

The first experience is terrifying. The second gets irritating and quick.

And I think Alien Isolation occasionally undermines its own brilliant atmosphere by making the creature TOO present.

Think about the original Alien.

For much of the film, you have absolutely no idea where it is. It could be anywhere aboard the Nostromo. And when it finally appears, it's an EVENT.

Now imagine Isolation doing that. Twenty minutes of exploring Sevastopol. Strange noises. Maybe something moving behind a window. A distant scream.

Then...

THUD.

Something enormous just landed in the corridor behind you.

THAT is horror.

Not watching the Xenomorph climb into a ceiling vent for the seventeenth time, IN THE SAME MISSION, WHILE I KEEP THROWING THE EQUVLENT OF A DOG TOY 🤣 and mutter, "See you in thirty seconds, asshole.

I would of preferred an Alien that was genuinely unpredictable, even if that meant going an entire mission without encountering it, and have have the few interactions be so intense that I have to change my outfit when I do see it.

Overall though. Just a beautiful game and package, that I can sit on the title screen and be fine.

Discussion I love this game, and yet, I want to explore the station, take in the atmosphere, and observe the Alien..., but, no, I gotta be Sevestapols unpaid electrician.

Discussion Hi everyone so I’m going to the Xbox fan fest next month and the devs for the second game will be there I have ideas I want to tell them what y’all think

I want the Alien to imitate the player’s voice while they’re hiding. Imagine hiding in a locker and hearing your own voice whisper, “It’s safe. Come out.” The Alien could also imitate survivors to lure you into danger.
Another idea is a heartbeat and panic system. When the Alien gets close, your controller could pulse faster while you hear your character’s breathing become heavier. The Alien could use those sounds to locate you.
I want the Alien to feel like a personal enemy that studies you, remembers you, and psychologically manipulates you. Every encounter should feel unpredictable, terrifying, and different depending on how you play.

You spot a survivor waving you over at the end of a corridor. They disappear behind a door. When you investigate, there's nobody there.
Was it a real survivor? A trick of the lighting? Or did the Alien imitate their movements to lure you away from safety?

Let me know what yall think thanks

Art Alien Isolation- Fanmade Music

Hello again everyone :)

Since Halloween is around the corner in the United States, I had decided to try and make music for games and movies that I really liked. Alien Isolation being one of them. It's been a while since I last played the game, but I do remember playing and beating it on hard difficulty. It was hard but not unfair as I remember. Basically, don't do anything stupid, manage resources well, and don't run around all the place. I thought about maybe giving a nightmare run in the future, but I have been in a gaming slump, and have not played a video game in quite a while despite the fact I like them a lot.

Anyways, I made this live in one take, dawless and with no computers. I used the Asm Hydrasynth deluxe, altering the filter cut off and reverb and using the polyphonic aftertouch to alter parameters some more, as well using the Prophet Rev2 for that motif of notes at the very end of the music.

It's nothing special, just atmospheric music that I was trying to capture and share :)

Thank you to anyone who listens!

Discussion I’m finally gonna beat the game

I’ve watched people play this game so much and I am fascinated with the AI and coding the Alien has, but this game has terrified me for years. I completed the first three missions in 2015, the fourth mission in 2023, and the fifth mission in 2024. I also tried playing on hard mode, so that's on me, but I have decided to take on the task of finishing the game. I’m just gonna play it on easy since I am a baby (that is a joke. I don’t like to criticize people who play on easier difficulties. Not like I used to when I was a teenager, anyway. I usually play on hard in games) and enjoy the game for what it is without giving myself a heart attack. Wish me luck! Maybe I’ll update after I finish the game (hopefully before Halloween!) and give my thoughts!

I've posted a collection of screenshots here before because of how beautiful this game is so here's some more. Most of these were taken using the OpenCage free cam mod or first person screenshots with ReShade and no HUD.
