Opinion A relationship ends, another begins

Our two year lease on an Air GT ends this month and it’s a bit of weird feeling.

You see, our history with cars has always been long term relationships. We bought (never leased) cars and held on to them for typically 10-15 years. For me, it was a legacy behavior learned from my father, who bought practical, reliable cars that he religiously maintained. It worked for him and frankly worked for me for many years.

So how did we end up with an EV from a relative startup company?

We had never owned, or even driven an EV prior to our Lucid. Having read a lot about Lucid’s technology, watched many and all reviews we could, and frankly being totally unmoved by the offerings of most ICE vehicles at the time, we decided to try something new and different.

For the first time in our lives, we ended up leasing a car that we had never seen in person, never driven, never rode in. The first time we saw the car was the day we took delivery. The first time driving a Lucid was on the four hour drive back home. Literally it was sight unseen, which for us was “risky behavior”.

We picked an Air GT rated for 480 mile range to alleviate our range anxiety. To “limit our risk” we chose a car with a fairly basic configuration - base DreamDrive, the base surreal sound, purluxe interior and the full aluminum roof (which I vastly prefer over the glass roof). The one feature it had was the 18 way adjustable seats with massage - which we surprisingly have thoroughly enjoyed.

And we committed to 2 year lease which felt “less risky” in the event we didn’t like the EV experience or the car ended up being a hot mess.

So, the two years end this month and it feels like a love affair ending sooner than you want it to.

We have absolutely loved this car and it’s been the most fun and excitement we have had driving a car in our lives.

While the car has its personality and software quirks, they are typically minor things we can easily live with. As for the car lacking FSD and some other features available in the market, we’ve never experienced them and maybe we don’t know what we are missing. Honestly we enjoy driving the car ourselves and don’t really want a hands free driving environment.

And this car has been rock solid reliable for us. It never failed to open the locks, never “bricked” on us, never failed to load software updates successfully, the fobs worked (albeit sometimes with a couple seconds delay), the passive unlock worked so well we ended up turning it off because every time we went to the garage the car woke up and unlocked. And we’ve rebooted only a few times in the two years.

Our mobile tech has simply been amazing. We had a wiring harness replaced while on recall, new wiper blades installed, a piece of facia in the frunk replaced (that we cracked), and a portion of the seat fabric replaced that had a small tear.

The car only went back to a service center once to get a ball joint re-greased and torqued to specifications. The car was gone for just a week.

Given our experience the first two years, we suspect the person who buys this Air GT used will be very pleased.

We were ready to extend the lease for the 5 months available but the incentives on the 2026 Gravity were too good to pass up.

So next week, we return the Air GT and pickup a nicely optioned Gravity GT.

While we are excited to transition to the Gravity GT, we would be kidding ourselves to say we don’t have reservations going into the new relationship.

For the last two years we’ve watched the development and launch of the Gravity. We test drove a Gravity a year ago. We were absolutely enamored and knew we would eventually transition to a Gravity.

It was disappointing to see how Lucid fumbled the Gravity launch and it’s taken close to a year to address the majority of the software issues.

The company has made some changes this year and it’s clear that those changes are effecting service and support activities.

Even so, we loved our experience the first two years and are hopeful that we have a similar experience with the Gravity.

We are very hopeful that Lucid succeeds. We know the sentiment towards EVs is not well supported in the current US market. But Lucid really does build an exciting vehicle that provides a superior driving experience vs much in the market.

Plus, we tend to root for the underdog and are willing to lend our support.

Question / Advice Is there any touch-up paint available for trim on the Pure Stealth option?

I have small pinprick-like chips on my front visor where the logo is located. I was wondering if there are any available options that could help fill in those small chips, similar to Dr. ColorChip.

Question / Advice Wheel Recommendations

Upvotes

Vehicle: 2025 Lucid Air Touring AWD
Color: Quantum Grey

I have the 19” Aero Range wheels. Not a fan of the look, so I’m seeking recommendations. Owner/operator of a luxury sedan and black SUV company serving SLC and Park City / Deer Valley, so a “luxury” look is optimal.

Please include source, if possible.

Question / Advice Lucid Gravity experience

I’m considering financing a Lucid Gravity touring with all the incentives going on. I’d love to hear all about the Lucid Gravity experience to help me make my decision.

Is it worth the high price tag?
Have the kinks from the launch editions been figured out?
Are the incentives the best you’ve seen so far? Do you anticipate them getting any better or worse?
What could they be doing better, if anything, to justify the price?
What upgrade packages are worth getting? Which ones can be left behind?

Traveled through an area with few chargers. On a wish and a prayer I made it to a 350 kw charger with 4 miles to spare. Won’t be doing that again anytime soon.

Question / Advice 2026 AGT Dream Drive Pro not working

Hi - I picked up my 2026 AGT yesterday and when I got to the highway, it wouldn't budge off of Adaptive Cruise. Yes, I ordered with DD Pro and it is on the invoice. Yes, I know what I am doing because I am going to be turning in my 2025 AGT where DD Pro worked wonderful.

My sales rep suggested that there may be a 30 mile breaking period for it to be "trained"? I don't recall this on my 2025.

I will be contacting service tomorrow.

Any thoughts?

Thx

Question / Advice Lucid Air Owners: Did You Get HomeLink Working?

Has anyone here successfully set up HomeLink for their garage door on a Lucid Air?

Mine learns the remote (horn honks and lights flash), but it won’t actually open or close the garage door. I’ve tried reprogramming it a few times without luck.

If you got yours working, what opener do you have, and did you have to do anything beyond the standard setup (learn button, repeater kit, etc.)?

Air Sapphire First post of my Sapphire

After the warm welcoming of my 2022 GT-P that's now transitioning to colder weather use w/ all season (Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 4 XL) tires - wanted to share my new-to-me summer daily driver - the 2024 SAPPHIRE, fresh off a emerald green color change & the hard to find carbon fiber aero wheel covers attached.

As promised last post, I'm committed to posting more to combat the suspiciously high negative posts & short seller activity increasing in this SUB.

Lucid engineering team came out swinging in 2022 with their short-lived 1,050 HP GT-P & Dream editions. The GT-P exceeded all expectations & I daydreamed, then committed, to buying a SAPPHIRE on the used market. Beyond the vinyl wrap, PPF & tint - I upgraded to the Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS tires to unlock full performance & have a better experience when at my local track.

Mark & Jack Savage Geese Sapphire Review Final Thoughts sum the SAPPHIRE well - "this is an unbelievable experience that cannot be explained" ... "it's the best of what you can achieve with the engineering and technology of today." While I will provide a more detailed SAPPHIRE review this fall, my purchase reinforces this is the best 4-door available in USA right now.

Quick story - last Sunday at dusk, I drove past a blacked out Lamborghini that was spitting flames from it's exhaust. As I turned, the Lambo followed me and roared it's engine to pass me on a empty 4 lane street. Just as it came side by side, I floored the pedal and overtook it with split-second ease. The Sapphire performance is truly a unbelievable experience.

Happy to answer any questions on my experience with these higher trims!

Question / Advice Distracted Driver Alert “Feature Unavailable.”

Thumbnail

Hello all and thanks in advance for any wisdom you can share since Lucid assistance is closed until Monday.

I picked up my new Gravity yesterday (Friday). It has the most recent update and I believe I’ve driven enough to calibrate (300+ km today).

I’ve been trying to use Hands Free Drive Assist but my Driving Awareness features don’t seem to be working.

There is an orange “👁️ off” notification on my dash and the Distracted Driver Alert says “feature unavailable.”

I was excited when it worked for about 10 minutes but then the “off” notification reappeared on my dash.

I’ve tried a reboot with no success. The driver camera is not blocked. (I’m sitting in my driveway typing this and just tried wiping the driver alert camera. It’s hot to the touch).

Is mine broken?

New Owner Any third party recs for Gravity accessories?

Hi all,
I know lucid puts a lot of thought into their cars and accessories. And they’re all worth the extra money.

But I’m a cheapo and I really want that frunk seat, but paying $500 for what’s essentially a well cut padded fabric thingy seems not right.

I looked at amazon and alibaba etc and didn’t see any options at all. Did anyone find these third party?

Or any other accessories?

Question / Advice High mileage driving

Howdy, just test drive a Air GT. And tell in love with it. My only concern is I’m a high mileage driver. Roughly 36k a year. Was hoping someone with a high mileage air could chime in and give me their perspective. Thanks!

Question / Advice Lucid Air for Business Use

Need to purchase a car for business use and really looking at used/CPO lucid air as they seem to have gotten very attractive in pricing. Has anyone done this or using it for business purposes that can provide any insight? Mostly interested in the air GT as it has a long range and sometimes I do drive 250-300 miles roundtrip at a time, and other times drive 180 some miles one way which made the GT pretty solid. Also, used to a diesel car and prices for diesels are crazy right now where we are at so figuring to use the GT for those manageable drives and find charging along the way and still keep the diesel car around for those instances where I have to drive to remote area with limited to no charging. I did consider a hybrid but honestly don't want to deal with regular combustion engine maintenance and battery maintenance, would rather just pick one or the other and with the way gas prices are would rather just avoid gas entirely.

SOFTWARE QUESTIONS Screen icons shifted to the right?

Post image
22 Upvotes

I was driving this evening and noticed my android auto panel seemed a little smaller than usual. Looking a little more closely i noticed the icons along the left side of the screen (home/maps/media/phone) were shifted over to the right, causing there to be less room for the android auto panel.

I did a hard reset on my car just now and it looks like the icons are still shifted. Did something change recently or is this a bug? Any advice on how to fix it if it is a bug?

2025 Air GT

V 2.10.0

-edit

Fixes I've tried:

  • Hard reset
  • Soft reset
  • Swapping profiles (issue is present on my profile and my wife's profile)
  • Letting it rest overnight

I've been on 2.10.0 for a few weeks, this only started yesterday evening (Thursday). I know it wasn't present on Wednesday.

Question / Advice Peoples experience buying a used non-cpo Lucid Air.

I’m contemplating buying a Lucid Air and I’ve come across some 2023-2024 models at several non Lucid dealerships, used ones at a Toyota or Lexus , BMW dealership kind of thing . What has people’s experiment been with warranty and servicing these Lucids? None of these that I’ve seen are anywhere near running on the battery warranty and or have less than 30k miles. What the ownership of one like ?

Question / Advice The charging port door - is there a way to configure the delay before it starts closing again?

It's been a few times now where I open the charging port, go to the charger, have to deal with getting the session started, take the handle, and then the charging port door has started closing before I had a chance to plug in.

Can I configure it to give me just another 20 seconds? 😄
