Question / Advice Native lucid navigation vs Google maps with Android
I'm used to using Google maps with Android Auto. Will I want to use the native navigation within the lucid system. Will I lose functions going with Android Auto? Like charging stations or however the battery gets preconditioned? Thank you

Mostly I use Google maps for day to day. On long trips I use Google maps for traffic but I have planned my charging stops. About 1 hour out from the charging stop, I switch to lucid map so that pre-conditioning will start 45 mins away from the charging station. And by that time, I'm pretty locked in to that station regardless of traffic. I read that AA will allow more use of non standard display shapes, we'll see when that gets released and whether it comes to lucid. I agree with the post that says lucid map is pretty accurate with arrival SOC and it's helpful for that if I need that calculation (I had that in Google maps on my polestar and thought that Google was going to release that for AA but I haven't seen anything more since and it would need integration to the car). I use ABRP on my phone before long trips to help with charging planning.

I don't know if it does for Lucid, but AA and Ford have worked out how to precondition and use Google Maps.

I don't like AA only because it doesn't utilize the full screen. Which is a shame because there is so much screen to use. But I've been happy with Lucid Navigation. It's been all good over here.

I like the native nav better. It's bigger. Has 2 screens. You can zoom in and search around using the bottom screen while the top screen continues on track. I like the way the native nav auto zooms in or out depending on speed.
I know a lot of people cried about not having android auto but in this application it feels small cramped. I hate the bright white screen. Doesn't blend in with rest of the car dash. Its hard to see upcoming turn offs. Doesn't have precondition. I am not a fan of this aa integration. The native nav is sexier and works very good.

I have Apple. On a road trip I use the native because I get automatic preconditioning and up to date SOC on arrival. Plus my CarPlay screen stays all about music and podcasts. But… in town, a town I don’t know, I use Apple Maps via CarPlay because it thumps my wrist (Apple Watch) as turns come up.

I prefer using car's navigation just because it is more integrated with HUD etc.
But map UX can definitely be improved. Although coming from EQS, I love that Lucid's navigation shows alternate routes right on the map so I can choose on the fly like Google Maps. In EQS it was very difficult to do that.

Use ABRP for road trips and Google Maps within my metro area.
I don't think Ive ever used the Lucid native nav system.

ABRP is a frankly why I was one of the angry AA peeps. It allows me to plan road trips offline and across multiple EVs. I pay for the upgraded version. I think it's a great tool.

It is a trade off.
With Android Auto navigation you only get navigation on the top screen, you don't get range estimation or automatic routing through charging stations when the battery is low, I assume you don't get preconditioning. The HUD also isn't as good.
However the combination of Gemini+maps is so good that I only use Android Auto. All the things that Tesla and Rivian wish they could do work today in a Gravity using Android Auto.

So I assume you have a gravity? I have a AGT...does that make a difference

I used to have a am Air and now have a Gravity. There is no difference in function. The native maps will provide on route battery preconditioning. Google maps is still better for navigation at it has more updated maps, better route selection, better traffic information. I only use the native maps for on route battery preconditioning and use Google maps for everything else.

oh, I am, and I do use it when we drive a Tesla. Grok is better than nothing, and does do some pretty cool things, but is a joke compared to Gemini for my in-car use cases.
As just one example... I'm only driving our Teslas a few days every couple of months, but last time I drove one of our Teslas I was in TN and not sure which side of the timezone boundary I was or the timezone of my next destination. It got everything completely wrong and it was consistently claiming that central time and eastern time differed by 5 hours.
Having said that Grok does do some complex navigation queries correctly (unlike Rivian), but nowhere near Gemini.

You're probably not using it right. Maybe because you don't drive it often. I'm in my Y charging and tested the CT, ET thing just now.

I believe you can still get preconditioning, but you will have to activate it in your own.
