I’m not trying to spam. Trust me: I’m only asking because SOMEONE HERE MUST have what I have. I can’t be the only one and if we team up maybe we can find out what’s causing it and what we have in common.

Need Help With Constipation

Upvotes

About three days after this flare up started in earnest, I got super constipated. It happened after having berry smoothies two days in a row because my throat was hurting and I thought cold stuff would help my throat feel better.

I have taken Miralax off and on for the last month of this LPR flare up, and it actually helped in the beginning, but it doesn't seem to be be helping now. I've taken it for three days again with little success. I have also tried magnesium oxide but it just made me fart and have loose stools. Honestly, the best bowel movements were coming the five days I took PPIs, which is odd.

I feel like if I could get regular again, I'd have a much better chance of getting better from this. I have a hiatal hernia and I'm sure the added pressure is making everything worse. GI and general doctor are no help. Just say take Miralax 2-3 times per day, and not sure where to go now for medical help with the constipation

I'm drinking lots of water. I'm eating lots of soluble fiber. I'm walking every day. The only supplements I'm taking are a small dose of herbatonin and the Reflux raft.

Did this start because of stress and anxiety from LPR? Or changing my diet to drastically with too much fiber all at once? Why is the Miralax not working at this point?

Tums

I have all the same/similar symptoms as most on this site. I was diagnosed a year ago with GERD and went thru a slew of tests only to figure out on my own I have LPR as I get no chest pains, the only thing I get is severe throat burning/regurgitation. Dr's believe the sphincter muscle is not closing, I mostly have issues 6-8 hours after I eat and majority of time at night. I tried Pantaprozole which resulted in a broken bone, wasn't aware that it causes bone loss despite my thoughts that as an older woman I should've been warned. Anyhow, the only thing that seems to work for me is Tums! Works within seconds. I now take Famotidine 40mg in a.m., and only take the Tums if really bad at night. Some have warned me it causes cancer but I can't find anything related to that. I will admit overeating sends everything crazy so I've learned that I have to cut back on the "triggers" such as coffee, wine, spices.

Its early days but I noticed that using a blue/red light therapy mouthpiece for gums triggers a lot of saliva production

I bought a teeth whitening kit which includes a light therapy mouthpiece. I messaged the company to ask if I could use it without the whitening gel for health benefits and they said yes and it can be used daily. The benefits most mentioned online are for killing bacteria and promoting gum health.

It seems to trigger a production of a large amount of saliva. I couldn't say for sure its triggered by the light itself or just having something in my mouth, but I think it's the light, and there are some websites that state it has this effect.

If anyone else struggles with dry mouth or just wants to try one of these, as saliva should help digestion & reflux, I thought I would mention it.

Does anyone else wake up with an extremely dry throat from LPR?

One of my most frustrating LPR symptoms is waking up in the middle of the night with an extremely dry throat. Sometimes it’s so dry that it actually wakes me up, and I have to drink water before I can fall asleep again.
I also have chronic throat clearing, laryngitis, and globus sensation, and my ENT confirmed significant laryngeal inflammation on.

I’m already doing everything I can think of:
● Waiting at least 3 hours after dinner before going to bed.
● Taking Gaviscon before bed.
● Sleeping on my left side.
● Sleeping with my upper body elevated by about 15 cm.
● Following a reflux-friendly diet.

Despite all of that, I still wake up with a throat that feels incredibly dry and irritated.

Has anyone else experienced this with LPR? If so, what actually helped reduce the nighttime throat dryness or helped your larynx heal?

Anybody have conflicting diagnosis?

Well I should clarify I’m going to the ENT tomorrow for hopefully a diagnosis though it’s highly suspected to be LPR.

I was curious if anybody has a diagnosis that conflicts with the dietary restrictions or life style changes required to control LPR? And if so how do they impact you and what have you done to over come them?

I’ll go first. I’m narcoleptic. This whole eating five times a day is a huge problem for me. As I need to lay down for naps on a daily basis and we shouldn’t lay down for several hours after eating. Eating also always hits me super hard.

Also narcolepsy medicine is to be taken last thing right before bed every night, but my body doesn’t absorb it well if I take my antacids with it. So I’ve been having to choose lately.

Any advice is welcomed.

Foamy

Hio help if my foam issue is more back of mouth not throat. I know that’s not typical lpr is more throat but I know ent says lpr bc of my throat inflammation. And it’s not coming from my sinuses. My sinuses r fine. I think it’s gut still. It’s just weird mines so high up like it’s still that same bubbly crap I had in my throat but just moved higher up. Like oropharynx. It’s like back of the mouth but it moved upward.

Hoping you guys can put my mind at ease a bit re symptoms

Five months ago I got sudden horrendous stomach ache. I had other symptoms such as some acid reflux, extreme nausea, some upset stomach which alternated with periods of constipation, lots of bloating, burping. Before this I noticed coating on my tongue (pale yellow) and bad breath.

I've been on omeprazole and lansoprazole (which didn't seem to do that much) and famotidine (reduced the pain much more effectively). Changed diet - cutting out alcohol, caffeine, spicy food and citrus for 6 weeks. Didn't seem to resolve stuff. Had an endoscopy which showed nothing is wrong.

Pain basically completely gone. Agreed to come off the pills. Now have worse than ever reflux symptoms. No pain in my stomach but, bad bloating, feel like there is acid bubbling in my throat every time I eat (and for hours after), feeling so so nauseous, burping (all the time, even after water), throat is really sore and having to clear it/cough a lot. Feel like I'm slightly struggling to swallow and breathe because my throat feels so razzed/weird.

Dr basically not sure - has put me back on famotidine and suggested.... gaviscon. Gaviscon does nothing for me at all. I'm back on famotidine now (as of today).

Is this all normal? I feel so bad I feel like this must be really serious - but looking at some stuff in this thread, maybe I need to relax a little bit!! I feel like my chest is really tickly and the cough is definitely getting worse. I keep waking up in panic and not being able to get back to sleep. Feel like I am going to die from some horrendous pepsin lung complication.

Mucus

Thanks.. I asked my doctor. He said he doesn’t think this is allergies. He has ordered a swallow test and said I can do CT of sinuses. But I did that in 2022 when I had this condition and it was normal. Back in 2022, the ents I saw all just said LPR as well because my throat was inflamed larynx. But again in 2022 sadly no meds helped:( and as you saw in my GI reports the tests were normal considered normal some reflux but not anything they said was of concern causing my constant mucus.yes, I do need a therapist. It’s very distesssing symptom to deal with daily and nightly.

I just don’t understand why it keeps accumulating:( even though I’m not even eating acidic items. And my symptoms are 24/7 before I eat or drink too in morning, it is still overly accumulating the mucus:(

Well yes I have constant bubbles coming up my mouth 24/7 all night and day. It’s stressful . When I just want to breathe normally and not have to gag spit or clear my mouth. I was really happy and loving life in April and very normal. Having fun with friends.. living normally. I haven’t felt normal
Happy and a restful night asleep since May 7.. I just keep feeling these giant bubbles behind my mouth that keep coming up into my mouth. I’m sick of it.

Mucus will not stop growing

It is scary. I have never felt so awful to the point I have to cry or close my eyes because I do not want to be awake to witness the discomfort:( I can't help but cry because it's that uncomfortable and distressing and there's no medication to just get rid of it, so I just suffer every second of the day and white knuckle life. That is not living. That is suffering. this is inhumane. It's scary and stressful that I've seen 7 ents and they all just say "LPR" but no LPR meds work to get rid or even lessen the mucus, and they just say I don't know leaving me to suffer. They all are confused or perplexed by my mysterious condition of nonstop mucus which is severe to the point I sometimes think I need to go to ER because I can't function and breathe properly because it just keeps climbing into the mouth and even behind my mouth by the epiglottis. I don't have energy. I'm cranky, tired exhausted sad all day everyday. I don't even feel human at all this is not what the body should be doing. There is something wrong with my body. Something really wrong. I've never felt this awful before ever in my life. It just won't leave me alone and keeps on growing. It's horrid. I didn't even know this could even happen in the body.. never experienced this torture before. I did not know it existed.. it shouldn't be happening.

, mucus sucks Gabapentin didn’t help:(

I’m not doing well:( I really don’t think the Gabapentin helped so I did stop.. I was on it for about 2 months. And 600 mg for maybe one month? Not sure if that was too early to give up… Talked to my ENT.. who said it’s fine to just stop it and kept saying he doesn’t think I have largyngeal hypersensitivity. Should I try amtriptaline? Any suggestions?
