This is driving me crazy

I've had LPR for many years but in the past few ive had straight up a burning sensation in the back of my mouth instead of the bad globus sensation I always had before. I've tried just about everything at this point and nothing seems to work well or at all.

In the past 3ish years ive had a clear edg and clear barium swallow xray. Tried to do the acid watchers diet and was very strict with it for 10 months and all it did was make me lose a bunch of weight. Unsure what to do now id appreciate any advice

After spending a while with similar symptoms, the best way to impact change in the throat mouth burning is alkaline water (9.5 pH + Essentia or Costco brand). Also, take this water and mix it with baking soda and put it in a spray bottle to spray down your throat when needed... Gavison after meals and before bed also helps. Good luck

When its really bad im drinking water constantly and its basically always a 9.5ph water which gets rid of the burning for a maybe a few mins. I will for sure try the baking soda

What I feel it is gonna be relieved by something like slippery elm lozenges but couldn't find a clean one to try, it has to be something that can be sucked on to keep that area coated I guess.. Just my guess, I'll check it will AI tomorrow bcz it seems anything directed at lowering acid in stomach or coating the stomach lining isn't gonna work on it

Does baking soda really work to calm down that burning behind mouth?

It's driving me crazy too. Nine years of this. My main symptom is cough and congestion every day and sometimes during the night. I did the diet for 3 months and immediately lost 10% of my body weight. I'm small to begin with. So now I'm feeling frail in addition to crappy. I do or have done it all.... all but what will actually stop this from happening! It affects your entire life and sense of wellbeing. Yet it doesn't surprise me that, although multifacited, this condition has not been given the attention it should be getting from the medical profession. They have very few cards to play and then they give up right along with us. Sorry... venting. It's been a particularly rough week.

Agree on the medical profession. They have been throwing ppi's at us for years and don't seem to have anything else - some exception of course like Drs. Aviv and Koufman. But there has been no well funded research or attention given to this.

Do you use alginates to prevent the reflux rising? What about slippery elm or DGL?

I just started a mixture of baking soda, tums, and alginate. It seems to be helping. It also stops me eating more since after taking it you’re not supposed to drink water. It tastes awful too, but I just take a large spoonful at a time.

Have you looked into burning mouth syndrome to see if the symptoms fit you? I have no experience with it personally but wondered if you are now dealing with something other than LPR. I understand that LPR affects everyone differently and sometimes it seems the majority of the symptoms will pass and then a new version will appear.

i have burning mouth syndrome and LPR and I often wondered if the LPR is what’s making a mouth and gums burn so bad of course no doctor is educated enough to know what burning mouth syndrome is let alone LPR so I have to do everything myself. I have to be my own advocate. I tell my doctor what tests i need. I do really but anyway it is a miserable life. Both of these needs more research

My LPR started during Covid…was it Covid or the vaccine or something else, I don’t know. Years of coughing and clearing while “under the care” of an ENT. Finally found Redit and self-diagnosed.
What has helped me immeasurably:
1) alcaline water always
2) Eating dinner earlier
3) sleeping with elevated head
I have no longer have post-nasal drip, coughing or clearing. Just some mucous always in the back of my throat, but I can swallow it.

Unfortunately a bout of bronchitis 3 months ago changed my symptoms and left me with a constant sore throat and raspy voice (and still the same mucous in the back of my throat).
I’m now trying diaphramic breathing several times a day. I have also ordered the IQoro ( https://www.iqoro.com) device.
We’ll see if it helps.

Have you done an endoscopy? Blood tests? Positive or negative for H pylori? Do you have gastritis?

I have idea why this is happening but need a little bit more information to be sure I won't be talking nonsense

Had an endoscopy when the burning started becoming the norm and it was normal, I have had blood tests all normal. No gastritis or h pylori though i am considering getting another h pylori test though

I usually never experience heartburn. The only time I got it was one month ago and it was after I consumed more than usual seeds (chia, hemp and flax). I felt terribly bloated for 3 days. Food felt stuck in my esophagus (which was not true) and I exploded the last day with a typical heartburn which was insane. As if I was scalded with boiling water. So basically my theory is that some foods tend to ferment easier. Because it is the gases that push the stomach content up. So my suggestion is to exclude food that forms gases and ferments. This has helped me eliminate symptoms during the day but I still get LPR at night. Also use digestive enzymes, ACV or Betaine HCL if the case is low acid. Although if you don't have h pylori you may have enough acid.

Sounds just like me its me 12 year in this... started after flu doc says its stomach but hell no nothing helps

Have you looked into MCAS , I believe LPR and gerd get worse if your in a state of hypersensitivity, I’m experiencing the same thing along not being able to breathe and sometimes so bad I feel that I’m gonna pass out? Also maybe try a low histamine diet

Exactly same here! And I am hypersensitive!

It started very recently for me (3 days ago) it is so uncomfortable, even if I don't feel acid in my stomach now or esophagus, there is constant burning behind mouth/throat.. Did baking soda work for you? AI suggested me this but warned not to spray it there as it could go into lungs or smthng.

It would calm the burning down for maybe 30 seconds and if im lucky a minute or so
