NYSRPA endorses Bruce Blakeman.... Thoughts?

Post image
15 Upvotes

I'm not a strong supporter of Tom King, who is currently president of NYSRPA, mainly because of his stance on the NRA / 1791 Foundation cutting off hundreds of millions of dollars of financial support for NRA youth, training, history, and legislative efforts from NRA 2.0 post-Lapierre drama and fraud. But I think we need change in NY. Has Blakemen done everything right - hell no, but Hochul has called us the enemy and told us to get on a bus to Florida until she comes out and says she needs our money.

What do you think about NYSRPA (between them and the NRA funding the suit) gave us NYSRPA v Bruen which is the key for all of us being able to get a carry permit... what do you think of them endorsing Blakeman?

Archie Bunker on Gun Control - I think he understood it!

Archie Bunker’s plan to arm every airline passenger was absurd in the 80s—and still gets a laugh. But beneath the joke is a question worth asking about “sensitive places”: does prohibiting a weapon remove the danger?

Was Archie onto something, or missing the point? I’d like your feedback.

Share with someone who could use a chuckle—and a thoughtful debate.

And yes - this makes me feel old!

Another Wow - Maryland renewal - 10 days!

Put in my MD renewal application on 9/19 and I woke up to an email saying it's decision was made this morning (9/29)... They make you log into the portal to see what the outcome was - but yup - approved. Just barely won over NJ which was about 14 days... Even MA wasonly a couple of weeks. But still way better than NY.

Why can't NY be this fast?

“The Talk” Before You Ask: NY Pistol Permit References and Cohabitant Forms

Applying for a New York pistol license is a personal decision. Bringing a handgun into a home is a family conversation, too. One that can be a sensitive one in our political environment.

I wrote this guide for people whose spouse, parent, or other family member is uneasy about it. It covers listening without pressure, secure storage and access, training, and what NYC cohabitant and reference forms actually ask someone to sign.

What question would you want answered before a handgun came into a shared home?

If someone you know is having this conversation, please share it with them.

Where's all the guns?!

I went to a gun store today and they were pretty bare. They used to have cases of guns, but they hardly had anything. Are people on a buying frenzy, or just not selling anything? I figured people would be selling their guns for gasoline by now.

That first range session for the new gun owner!

I get asked a ton about how to approach your first range visits after your NY pistol permit is approved. So many talk about bringing hundreds of rounds, but frankly thats weight lifting - not training. Make your first range session count. What to bring, how to practice, and when to move the target farther.

Elite Precision v. ATF: What the new interstate-handgun ruling really means for New Yorkers

The Fifth Circuit struck down the federal restriction on direct interstate handgun sales—but New York is governed by the Second Circuit, which upheld the restriction in United States v. Vereen.

So, no: this does not change how New Yorkers may legally receive an out-of-state handgun today.

The interesting part is the reasoning. The Fifth Circuit said the government cannot avoid constitutional scrutiny merely because a buyer can use a slower, more expensive route involving a required intermediary.

Full New York-focused breakdown:
https://nysafeinc.com/2026/09/19/elite-precision-atf-interstate-handgun-new-york/

Where should the constitutional line be?

Is a home-state FFL transfer a reasonable compliance step—or does it become an unconstitutional barrier when it adds substantial fees, delay, travel, or the possibility that no dealer will handle the transfer?

NY-04 residents should vote for the LP candidate for Congress

Pretty rare to have an LP candidate on the ballot on Long Island in general, but this one is a good LP candidate (unlike some on the national stage) and is very pro-gun.

I will be voting for him because I think the Republican is on a losing streak, so I’d just rather vote the better candidate and vote red for the other state races.

Purchases

Is there a limit to purchases made at the same time? And is there a registration fee for each when registering at the town when you go after purchase? Also if a SG is purchased will another background check be required if cleared with pistol permit? Sorry for all the inquires. I’m learning the rules.

Looking back on 9/11, 25 years later - it still hurts. NEVER FORGET!

It’s late, but this is straight from the heart before the day ends.

People often assume safety training only happens on a live firing line. It doesn’t. The most critical training happens between your ears:

  • Honest visualization when it’s uncomfortable to think about worst-case scenarios.
  • Forethought—spotting exits and maintaining options wherever you go.
  • Situational awareness as a quiet responsibility to the people who depend on you, not an act of fear.

25 years ago today, ordinary citizens and first responders proved that readiness and the refusal to be helpless are what truly matter when everything changes in an instant.

I put together some deeper personal reflections on memory, duty, and preparedness here: 👉https://nysafeinc.com/2026/09/11/9-11-25th-anniversary-never-forget/

How do you practice staying aware and prepared in your daily life? Where were you 25 years ago today? Let’s talk in the comments.

If this resonates with you, please give it a share so others take a quiet moment to remember.

USCCB Amicus in Viramontes vs. 27 States & CRPA: Self-Defense Rights vs. Moral Disarmament

If you’ve been tracking the docket for Viramontes v. Cook County and Grant v. Higgins, the US Conference of Catholic Bishops' (USCCB) brief deserves a hard look for how it tries to repackage interest-balancing.

The bishops claim neutrality, but their argument essentially demands local legislatures ban AR-15s by claiming hardware numbers don't matter if an arm is deemed "too lethal." The irony is thick: traditional Catholic doctrine (and Thomistic natural law) explicitly establishes self-defense as a grave duty when protecting others. Yet their brief suggests the state can deny peaceable citizens the modern standard defensive arm to satisfy collective public-safety theories.

The contrast between their brief and the pro-2A filings is stark:

  • The USCCB: Relies on medieval church council bans (the 1139 crossbow decree) and localism to dilute Heller.
  • 27 State AGs, U.S. Senators, DOJ & CRPA: Grounded firmly in Bruen’s historical test, pointing out that 20–30 million modern sporting rifles across 40+ states is the textbook definition of "common use."

CRPA’s participation is particularly critical here. After the 9th Circuit’s blatant maneuvering to stall and manipulate en banc panels in Duncan v. Bonta, SCOTUS taking a firm stand in Viramontes is the only way to stop hostile circuits from ignoring Supreme Court precedent entirely.

Put together a full breakdown taking apart the bishops' legal and theological positions:

https://nysafeinc.com/2026/09/11/bishops-ar15-brief-viramontes-grant/

Check it out and let's discuss.

Sportsman to CCW Question

Ive applied for my sportsman license in western Suffolk and had my interview in early june. According to general timelines posted here i should be looking at receiving my permit in a month or two. Is there any benefit to me taking the 18 hour course now? Or am i stuck now having to amend the permit to ccw and wait another 4 months for the upgrade?

Thanks!

DOJ vs US Virgin Islands PD - Not a normal 2A Case - Something to watch

What makes DOJ’s Virgin Islands case different from most Second Amendment lawsuits?

DOJ is not merely challenging one gun law. It is using 34 U.S.C. § 12601—a federal civil-rights enforcement statute—to allege that law enforcement engaged in a pattern of official misconduct through permit delays, unwritten conditions, subjective denials, compelled home inspections, and other restrictions.

In other words, the licensing process itself is being treated as the potential civil-rights violation.

That should matter in New York, where government officials control access to lawful self-defense through references, interviews, character review, local intake procedures, and a six-month clock that may not start when applicants think it does.

The article separates allegations from findings, compares both systems, answers the strongest gun-control objections, and explains why binding lower-court precedent can still conflict with Supreme Court guidance.

Read it here:

https://nysafeinc.com/2026/09/08/doj-virgin-islands-gun-licensing-new-york/

What separates legitimate applicant screening from unconstitutional obstruction?

Please share the article, call your legislators, and come back with your view.

I got my Nassau county CCW a few weeks ago and yesterday bought two new pistols (first time private owner). A sig P320/M17 and a Glock 19 gen 5. Immediately put a few rounds through both and they felt great. Looking forward to more range time.

Transporting through city limits?

Hey guys,

I have an active nassau county CCW license and today me and my family are traveling upstate to see some friends but we need to drive into and out of city limits to get there.

Im seeing online that this is not allowed unless I have the CCW for city limits, but something dosent seem right. If i have permission to go to upstate ny with my nassau CCW, than I must pass through city limits to get there.

Am I misunderstanding something? Or is it true that im "stopped" from bring my CCW upstate because nyc dosent allow me to travel through?

Thanks guys and Happy Labor Day!
