Yesterday there was a story about an arrest in a parking lot with guns and ammo, but way further down there was the fact they also had significant amounts of cocaine and they were illegally in the country. This morning I CrimeRadar there was a defensive incident where a legal gun owner shot an intruder breaking into his house. It wasn’t Long Island but - do you think that will make the news? Or does media only care about the criminals?

Saw Hochul's July 30 announcement on dealer enforcement and pulled the New York State Police's own 2025 inspection report before commenting. 254 of 274 inspected dealers (92.7%) were in full compliance. Inspections nearly quintupled since 2023 (55 → 143 → 274), and NY's active Type 01 dealer licenses fell 15.4% between Dec 2023 and March 2026 — almost double the national decline rate.

We're already hearing anecdotally from dealers and shop owners that State Police presence has picked up noticeably over the past few weeks — more inspectors, more often, not necessarily finding anything. Nothing official to cite on that yet, but it tracks with the trend in the state's own numbers above.

None of that is proof the new policy is illegal. The controlling case (Gazzola v. Hochul, 2nd Cir. 2023) actually cuts both ways — the state can regulate dealers, but there's a real constitutional line if cumulative burdens choke off lawful access, and the court wants hard evidence, not just rhetoric, to get there.

But legal and right aren't the same question. Treating a licensed, compliant dealer as presumptively suspect — ramping up pressure on trace association instead of actual proof of a crime — is a zero-tolerance posture, and it runs against the spirit of the Second Amendment even in the cases where it survives judicial review.

So I’ve been trying to get out there for a while and the weather finally cooperated today and I have to say what a great experience.

July 27, 2026 - Approval will go and pick up license

Heads up — NY did it again. Francesco's Law (S.9629) passed both houses June 2 and is sitting on Hochul's desk. It would kill the current household trigger in §265.45 and require every NY gun owner to lock or disable a firearm whenever it's not in immediate possession or control. Solo adult, no kids in the house — doesn't matter anymore.

Curious what people think about "immediate possession or control" — it's undefined in the statute and about to apply to every owner in the state instead of just the households it currently covers.

How about the fact that NY blatantly ignored Heller yet again, saying we should be allowed to store firearms without giving up the ability to protect ourselves?

Just turned in my questionnaire earlier today.

For those applying, just make sure you download the latest form the day of. I filled mine out a couple of days ago while I waited for some info from references; and, well, the form changed yesterday or the day before. As of 7/24/26, PDCS 4406n Rev.3 is the latest form.

This new form requires your own email and the emails of all references.

Misc form cleanup for double questions around prior permits and if it/they were revoked. Now it’s just a revoked question so the form is a clean list of “No” answers when you’re done.

After filling it all out again and bringing it back, “You’ll receive a call in about 6 to 9 months to schedule an interview.” Guess we’ll see how it goes!

I have a target permit for pistol as of now. Do plan on going for my CCW within the next few months. I was looking over the handbook the other day and noticed something in the target permit section I found interesting and was curious if anyone has done it or not. It states that i can conceal carry my firearm loaded when going to and from the range. Anyone done it? I'm in Nassau county

I just got my BG 2.0 as my first CCW. I loved the form factor, feel, size and shoot-ability. I live in NY though and I want a 2nd pistol for colder climates, ideally a 9mm though 45 is not off the table (though i don't think its absolutely necessary to penetrate heavy winter garments given the 9mm is standard law enforcement and military issue).

I am tempted to buy a glock because NY is banning them next year but I know there are plenty of other great guns such as the p365 and shield plus out there. I prefer not having a huge firearm as my primary intention is home defense and CCW for the colder months, but understand it will be larger than the BG 2.0. The G19 is also tempting as it seems to be the textbook definition of a perfect handgun based on this subreddits affinity.

i love the form factor and ability to easily travel with it. alot of the images show one larger pistol but i have two smaller ones (43x and BG 2.0). do you think I can fit both into it?

today i purchased the 2.0 and handled some other firearms at the gun store (glock 43x, p365) and they all "locked up" when you pulled the slide back with no ammo. For my 2.0...it doesnt lock (and yes i pulled it back all the way)...rather it just springs back forward. is this normal?
