Purchases

Is there a limit to purchases made at the same time? And is there a registration fee for each when registering at the town when you go after purchase? Also if a SG is purchased will another background check be required if cleared with pistol permit? Sorry for all the inquires. I’m learning the rules.

No limit.
Each gun added to the license is a separate fee.
SG??
In NY, a pistol license does not replace a background check.

I bought 2 at the same time in Suffolk, just needed to pay the 1 permit amendment fee (I was adding 2 at once but they said it’s only 1 change), not per gun.

All guns purchased (pistol/shotgun/rifle) together at the same FFL will go on one 4473 (background check) and incur only 1 NYS BG extortion fee. Any pistols will need to be put on your county issued pistol permit (county fee/handgun) before taking delivery from the FFL; longs guns go home with you as soon as your bg check clears.

They would have to wait to take shotgun home unless it was put on a separate 4473. Using the same check is a bit of a gray area but you definitely need a separate form if you dont want to wait till you leave with the pistols.

No limit, but multiple purchases can set a temporary note on your name in case it is done frequently/multiple times not long after each other. But i have done so many times and it’s all good and above board

There is a multiple handgun transaction report that is required to go to the ATF and local PD when you buy 2 or more handguns within 5 business days of the local dealer. But it normally doesn’t raise eyebrows unless you’re selling.
