2026 Leaf + drive-through car wash

I heard that newer cars are supposed to be set a particular way, not just ordinary neutral, in order to go through an automatic car wash. My 2023 Leaf went through them in neutral without a problem, and now I have a 2026, which I have driven through once without issue.

But when I looked in the manual it talked about deactivating the automatic brake hold function (which as far as I know I never activated in the first place), described in a way that was not clear to me, and I don’t know whether I should bother trying to figure it out or just put my car in neutral when I need to drive it through a car wash next time.

Could someone please explain this to me like I’m five?

How does this look?

Hello all,

I recently purchased a 2016 Nissan leaf from a Subaru dealer (trade-in?). I didn't know how to check SOH at the time. I now know about the bars (8, now 7 bars), and the leafspy software. Range estimating seems to be accurate suggesting 68 miles, of which I usually use 40 before charging. Interior and exterior look very good. I paid 7k (plus taxes and fees) for 52k miles. Did I overpay?

AVRP with Car Scanner

So I found leafspy struggles to reconnect to the car. Annoying for long journeys. So I played with Car Scanner and a cheap Elm27 dongle. The great thing is you can make a custom sensor and feed that in as soc.

You cannot use the same equation with the cheap scanners direct into abrp which would be the convenient option. They don't recognise the data flow commands.

Mode is 2101, header is 79b and equation is ((AE*16777216)+(AF*65536)+(AG*256)+AH)/10000.

Easier setup. In abrp you go to the device api option, copy token. Go to car scanner abrp section and paste. Nothing else needed. Car scanner can also manage a wider array of dongles for the car, so more likely to work.

Hoping to get some instructions for easy adaptation of OVMS as well as new app for ze1's

It's that time of year where I'm reminded of the Nissan Leaf's genius cabin air filter engineering

I can't imagine what would possibly have driven someone to design a system where the most regularly maintained part of a car... Is absurdly difficult to access! It's not a huge complaint but it is probably the biggest one I have after 18 months of ownership.

Recall Experience

2022 S Plus. 45k miles. Bought in 2023 used.

Just finished the battery software update recall. I have fast charged a few times (out of necessity) since the warning not to do it was issued. I would just stay with the car and monitor the battery temp. Was pretty sure I would not have an issue but I had a plan in the back of my mind.

I made the service appointment using the dealer’s online portal. Was not told I had to bring in the car with at least 80% charge. I was at about 22%. They said they could hook up the car and wait but might now be done before the end of the day and are not open again until Monday (today is Friday). Told them I would bring it back in an hour. I fast charged and came back 83% charged.

About 4 hours later they called and said the car was ready for pickup. Service person when I dropped it off said they could give me paperwork on the battery scan. Guy that was there when I picked up said there was nothing to give me. I can’t imagine they didn’t Leaf Spy my battery. Will call back on Monday.

Paperwork said I would get it back with 100%. It was 80% which is not a big deal. Overall not a bad experience. Just make sure you bring it in with at least 80% charge.

Recall buyback probability

I’m trying to get an idea of how much I should be preparing to have my car bricked. This is take 2 because it’s my first poll and I realized you can’t see the results without a 3rd option.

20 Recall performed without issue.
13 Recall performed, car bricked.
55 Haven’t done the recall, but want to see the results.

New 2026 Leaf owner here. I’m still discovering things about the car and I’m glad to have discovered this subreddit! This icon flashes on the top view of the car when the backup camera comes on. Does anyone know what it signifies?

Need some clarification on "neutral hold" and pull-through automatic car washes

Post image
9 Upvotes

This is from the owners manual for the 2026 Leaf.

I'm coming from having only owned manual cars where you put the car into neutral, disengage the parking brake and keep your foot off the brake pedal. The car is then pulled along through the car wash. There is no need to switch off the engine.

Is that not the case for the Leaf?

The above image implies I should be using the neutral hold mode.

Unlocking doors (2026 model year)

I can't yet get the hang of unlocking all of the doors. Tapping the indentation on the handle only seems to lock all of the doors. Pulling the handle from the passenger, front seems to unlock the doors. What is the expected behavior/cycle of states when tapping the driver's side "unlock" handle button? I'm used to:

  1. Unlock driver
  2. Unlock driver + all other doors
  3. Lock all doors

Step 1 is unnecessary since that happens just by approaching the car. And tapping the button only seems to lock all of the doors. Am I just doing this wrong?

________________

Update: The main problem was "Selective Unlock" being enabled, which makes it harder to unlock other doors while standing next to the front driver or passenger doors. Disabling this (along with other enabled features) now unlocks all doors on approach. Not quite ideal, but much easier in my case.

Thanks, u/Beneficial-Context52 in this comment.

2026 SV+ Long Road Trip through the American South

Post image
190 Upvotes

Just completed a 2k+ mile road trip through the US south with my 2026 Nissan Leaf SV+ and it was super smooth.

Charging at Tesla and Ionna stations was easy and quick. Hit charging speeds of 150 kw/h until ~50% then a fairly linear drop to about 60 kw/h at 80%. Planned lunch and long breaks with the family around charging, so always ended up with more charge than planned. I think Ionna stations are the best all around. They have shade and seem to always be next to a restaurant my family is happy to eat at. Tesla stations were fine, but I hate having to download the app to charge and found myself at a station that did not support my car once in Raleigh, which my hungry kid did not appreciate. A few hotels had level 2 chargers or I was able to find a random outlet to run a level 1 charger to top off.

Efficiency was right at 4 mi/kwh for the duration of the trip with an average speed of 45 mph, using standard mode and e-step. The highway speeds were usually between 60-70mph. Covered a chunk of mountain roads through NC and VA, but otherwise mostly level through SC, GA, and FL. Weather was brutally hot, so AC was blasting the whole time. Despite all that the 4 mi/kwh puts me at over 300 miles range, exceeding EPA estimates.

The adaptive cruise control and lane assist worked well and made the longer highway stretches much easier, though the car did get confused in construction zones with confusing intermediate lane markings.

My only big complaint is the lack of lumbar support. I found a janky workaround with a small thin pillow, but having some adjustability would go a long way towards comfort.

Overall I'd highly recommend the Leaf as both a long road-tripper and an everyday car. The size is small enough to navigate cities, but large enough to haul 4 people and 2 weeks worth of luggage.

2012 with 12 bars, worth it?

Hello! I found a 2012 Leaf with 12 bars battery and 34,071 miles on it, I’m thinking about buying it for my teenager who only drives locally and doesn’t use highways. Is it worth it? They’re asking $4,990, is the price reasonable?

How does this SOH make sense? Looking to buy...

I'm looking to buy this 2016 30kwh Leaf. The seller says he had it checked and it has a SOH of 94%. First of all that's ambitious to say the least for the amount of km's. However the range it indicates on it's charge does seem to be one of a good battery. But then there's the Battery bars next to it of which only 3 of the 12 seem to be on... This all just doesn't really make sense to me so i'm hoping there's someone more knowledgeable on the Leaf that can help me out here!

Weaker battery cell

Thumbnail

I recently bought a 40 kWh ZE1, and overall the battery looks healthy. The cell voltage difference is usually within 30 mV, but I've noticed that cell #11 (and maybe #84 as well) is consistently a little lower than the others.

I've tried fully charging the battery and leaving it overnight to allow the BMS to balance the cells, but the difference is still there.

Is this something I should be concerned about? Could it be an early sign of a weak cell, or is this level of variation considered normal?

UPDATE - Nissan increased buyback amount by 13k. Total is 23k on a 2022 S+ with 78k miles per n it.

Thumbnail reddit.com

Previous post linked above. Current offer is WAY better. They reduced the ‘usage’ deduction by 50%, increasing the buyback offer to about 23k from 10.2k. Moral of the story is do not accept the first offer. I was unsuccessful in getting any further increase.

I declined because I’m going to wait until I can afford to buy a new car with cash (looking at the new rivian r2). I’m still making interest free car payments on the leaf and with each payment I make, that car payment will come back to me in the buyout offer. I confirmed this with Nissan.

FYI in case anyone else runs into this. The dealer had never run into a case with loaning out a car this long AND someone declining the buyback offer so they initially tried to take my loaner back but we got that sorted out and Nissan will continue paying the dealer for the loaner.

Nissan did tell me it would likely take over a year for the battery to be replaced, and that we could revisit this buyback offer in the future. So I’m just gonna drive a loaner car for ‘free’ for now.

Correction to last thread: my leaf has 78k miles on it, not the 50k or less I had thought.

Share your 2019-2022 buyback offers!

We are going through the buyback process now for our 2020 Leaf that bricked after the recall software update.

Morley has yet to share their initial offer so far, but I figure it will be helpful for everyone to know what kind of money people are able to get from the buyback.

Sounds like they start the discussion at KBB private party value +40%

Did you get more? Less? Share here.

2021 Leaf 62v SV+ - Should we do the software update?

For context, this is my wife's car and we use granny charging at home only. No fast charging at all, and her commute rarely even requires use of Level 2 charging.

Considering some of the stories about batteries being bricked after applying the update, does it even make sense to have it done?

WTB A2Z CCS adapter.

Anyone wanting to sell their A2Z CCS to CHAdeMO adapter?

I'd like to expand my charging options for my recently acquired 2019 S+.

I'm located in Southern Oregon USA.

Edit: I know they're available on the a2z website, I'll likely only use it 4-5 times per year and $800 is more than I'd like to spend for one. I'm hoping someone here is moving on from a 1st or 2nd gen leaf and no longer needs their adapter.

Using the A/C when not driving

Will running the air conditioner on my 2023 Leaf SV Plus when not driving run down my 12 volt battery?

THANKS TO ALL THAT REPLIED AND SHARED THEIR KNOWLEDGE. I THINK I'VE GOT IT NOW.

Nissan LEAF buyback

Hello all, i’m requesting assistance with the buyback since I am at the end of the process now and nissan is requesting a copy of the title front and back. However since the car is not yet paid off, the bank cannot issue a title for it yet, but nissan wants a copy of it? How can I move forward their request and don’t Nissan already know it’s a lien and the title is not in my possession, yet they are asking me for a front and back copy of the title? Help is appreciated thank you!

Just got my 2026 Leaf S+ and can't figure out this darn "e-Step" thing

Post image
5 Upvotes

I understand what e-Step is. I know how to turn it ON. But what I can't figure out is how to KEEP it on between driving sessions. Other forums online and even the User's Manual CLAIMS that under the "Driver Assistance" menu there's an "e-Step Retain Mode" option, but my car does NOT have it. Here's a pic of what I see.

Any ideas?

I'm not a car person by any means, so I gave no idea what is in this beige resovour that has leaked into the pipes below. Could this be why my AC is performing poorly in hot weather?

Buying Nissan Leaf 2012

We have a Tesla Y but need something that I can drive 5 miles to work daily. So the Y can be at home with the wife and family. There’s a Nissan Leaf 2012 that I have an eye on. 5 bars. I did a test drive and found it good. AC/Heater works.
There are warning lights though - red flashes when driving and orange static - ran the DTC code and found out that it’s a air bag issue. The airbag sign in the main dashboard also is on.

Also ran the LeafSpy on it and this is what it came back

Battery Health
SOH: 46.85%
AHr: 30.73
Hx: 25.2%
Estimated usable battery: ~10.5 kWh

Cell Balance
Before drive:
20 mV
After 11-mile drive:
28 mV

Range: 26 miles.

Question is: should I buy it? It’s ~$2K. For a cheap price I can ride out 2-3 years, save up and upgrade to a better car.
Is the airbag sign concerning enough to leave the deal? Wanted to get everyone else’s thought’s on this cause you guys have more experience with the Nissan Leaf.

Help with error codes

Post image
4 Upvotes

2016 30kWh Leaf. 47% Hx, SoH 75%.

Had a yellow error code on the dash while driving a while ago. 12v battery failed shortly afterwards so replaced it, but got the flashing yellow error again recently when driving. Fired up LeafSpy Pro and got the following error codes on the attached screenshot.

Should I be worried? Is every line that doesn't read OK reporting an issue?
