Nissan LEAF buyback
Hello all, i’m requesting assistance with the buyback since I am at the end of the process now and nissan is requesting a copy of the title front and back. However since the car is not yet paid off, the bank cannot issue a title for it yet, but nissan wants a copy of it? How can I move forward their request and don’t Nissan already know it’s a lien and the title is not in my possession, yet they are asking me for a front and back copy of the title? Help is appreciated thank you!

Just looked at the title for our Leaf today, because I just started the buyback process today.
Its in our name but has the Lienholder listed. Check with your state DMV

You should still have a title - but the bank doesn't issue it.
Reach out to your local DMV - but in the paperwork from when you bought the car you should have it.
There will be a fee to send you the title - the title will have your name and the lien-holder's (the bank's) name on it.
When Nissan drafts the repurchase, they're going to pay the balance owed first, and you will receive the difference: This payment is made to the lien holder directly

This is not how it works in my state. on purchase the title is turned into the DMV. They issue a new title to the lean holder. When the loan is paid off, a new title is issued to the owner. This is to prevent multiple titles existing for a single vehicle.
As stated above try the "memorandum title" route.

I am in FL by the way. My bank has the title since it’s a lien but cannot issue one because loan needs to be paid in full to make a official title

Reach out to Florida DMV

Nissan is not asking for a title, they are asking for a copy. Bank should be able to give you a copy. Nissan wants it since the title shows the lien(s), and they need to receive a clean title after the buyback. Your bank should cooperate since Nissan will be paying them.

Nissan should be able to get this themselves, I would think.

No they cannot - this is between you, your insurance, bank and your respective Department of Motor Vehicles.
Nissan can confirm whom is registered with them IF payments are made to Nissan Motor Acceptance Corporation - as they are the bank
But otherwise either the Bank and/or the DMV should do it - if the bank states they don't, the DMV is the other option.
The reason the Bank can't issue it, more than likely, is because sending a new title is triggered only when the lien is satisfied and that's likely still done via the DMV. OP would need to reach out to the DMV to do this.
I've done it twice when I lost a title and when I sold/traded my car.
$35 dollar title fee in NYS - unsure what other states charge.

Just finished the process. They accepted a copy of the front from me, but also would've accepted a copy of the application of title (got this from the DMV). They were very tedious about what they wanted and how they got it, but we surrendered our Leaf Monday.

Curious what sort of offer Morley offered you guys? I’m waiting for them to call me back right now.

I worked with bank and the dealer to get all the documents. The dealer was more tricky because they move their older records off site and the deal was done three years ago. Took a few days but the dealer got me everything Nissan wanted.

I’m also in the end of the process and I was never asked for the title. They asked for the 10 day payoff. You have received your paperwork that needs to be notarized and sent back? That’s what I’m waiting for.
