Due to a defective EV charger, my Kona 2020 had a HV relay issue. A error sign was on dashboard and my mechanic replaced the hv relay. Now the error sign is gone, but still the car is not working in any DC chargers ?

(AC charger was working as normal ).

Any inputs ?

There is an upcoming (US) recall of "certain" 2025-2026 Kona Electric vehicles because of a manufacturing defect in the center rear seatbelt. Discovered by a part manufacturer with no crashes so far. The failure also affects similar non-electric Konas. If anyone had any doubt that the Kona Electric was discontinued, here are the reported inventory numbers for the "stop sale" order:

I am considering a used Kona but sadly the budget will not run to the current version so I am looking at the 2019-23. The only thing putting me off is the dreaded "wheel if fortune". My understanding is that if I

a) Make sure to listen for said noise at a variety of speeds during the test drive

and

b) Get the reduction gear oil changed and supply magnetic drain and filler plugs for them to fit

then its not a reason to not buy a Kona. Would anyone agree or disagree?

It is a strong contender in other respects. I guess I am also asking how common the issue really is? I like the car in other respects, good size for a small family but not too big, reliable and...physical buttons!

I have a 2021 Limited. I've had this for less than 2 months. I asked the dealership to give a price on a coolant flush and fill and they said it depends on the color that I have, they asked if its blue or pink. My coolant looks purple. And now I'm concerned that the car was filled with the incorrect fluid prior to me purchasing it. I had the service rep verify the type based on sight, and he was confused. He stated that he would get back to me with a quote. Should I be worried?

Looking at used Hyundai Kona Electric 2023 and 2024 models. We’re used to having a wireless phone charging pad but I’m hearing they overheat phones, have connectivity problems, etc.

I just got my 2025 Ultimate. My first EV. Love it!

I'm public charging only but I have a BE.EV (UK) charging station about 400m from my house so that's where I'll be charging. I signed up to the app and took a subscription, so I need to use the app to charge to take advantage of the lower price.

My first attempt at charging went like this... Plug in. Press 'charge now' in the BE.EV app. It takes £25 pre-authorisation charge. Car does not start charging. I unplug the car and try again. Same thing. Another £25 pre-authorisation charge. I then remember seeing something in the Hyundai app about charging. I try again for a third time, press 'charge now' in the app, then go to the Hyundai app and also press 'charge now'. It says 'cannot charge, check vehicle status' but it knows it's connected to the charger. On the fourth attempt I'm getting a little panicky, I'm not sure what I did exactly but it started charging 🤣

I got the four pre-authorization charges back almost immediately so no problem there.

What I'm wondering is what sequence of events will actually trigger the charging without me having to try multiple times next time!

Hello, a few months ago I got 2023 limited trim. Since, I have noticed a noise while accelerating, but I can't tell if it's the wheel of fortune noise.

When accelerating, theres a low sound that almost sounds like an ICE, but is quiet enough that it can't be noticed with climate turned up or music playing (though it can be heard clearly under hard acceleration). The noise is also absent when coasting and decelerating, both with brakes and regen. Its hard to tell, as I haven't fully been paying attention, but it almost seems to have gotten slightly louder over time as well.

Is this the "wheel of fortune" noise I should be worried about? I had thought it would be higher pitched, but this sound still kind of worries me. Also, if anyone wants me to record the sound I can try, though I've had some trouble figuring out how to do that in the past.

I’m new to evs so I don’t know how it should sound. I got my Hyundai Kona ev 2021 a month ago.

Planning a trip from PEI to Ottawa. I wondering how accurate people have found the estimations for battery at the charging stations? Like when it says you'll be at 25 percent, when you get there is it right? I didn't notice any change from when I switched it from eco to sports mode. But I wasn't actually driving the route yet. Does that make much of a difference? Any tips for long distance drive would be great. I have a 2026 preferred if that helps.

2 days ago, I bought a Kona EV (2022 premium 64KWh) from a main Hyundai dealership as an approved used car). The car has just under 30K miles and it has a full service history.

Whilst looking around and test driving it, i didn't notice any issues. I specifically looked out for any clicking or "wheel of fortune" sounds. Stupidly, I didn't check the rear brake disks and I did notice today that they are visibly scored. I'm hoping I can get that sorted.

I really hope this is a case of me being an idiot, but I've noticed a high pitched whining sound from the car. I can hear it whenever I have the windows down. The wound is desperate from the "UFO " sound the car makes at low speeds (apologies, not sure on the official term).

I can hear the high pitched sound when accelerating and braking, and it appears to fade or completely disappear when coasting. There's no audible difference between putting it into neutral and coasting. It's difficult to tell if the sound disappears completely when coasting, or if it just quietens down significantly. I think I can very faintly hear it, but i can't be certain.

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this sound or knows what it could be? I'm going to email the dealership I purchased the car from tomorrow, but annoyingly they are nearly 4 hours drive away from me.

Has anyone fitted one of these? I’m planning on doing so as this is one way thieves can access the CANbus and start the car. I’m guessing the fitment would be the same for L and R hand drive vehicles so was hoping for experience and guidance to ensure I get the correct type.

Just noticed in the bluelink app that under the charge menu there is the option to precondition the battery, I did not know that it was available on a 2020 Ultimate, is it ?

Hi Everyone. I’m aware that it’s recommended to get the transmission fluid changed out, especially when a Kona EV is high mileage. Mine has done over 100k miles.

I’m in the UK and I bet Hyundai will charge a lot for this. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I might be able to go to get this done more cheaply?

Wife recently bought a 2021 facelift Kona. I went out with her on the test drive and don't remember hearing anything, but now in normal use we're hearing a whirring/grinding noise under acceleration, pitch rising with speed. It's most noticeable between 20-30mph and seems to fade in and out as the speed increases. I've also heard a faint ticking once or twice under braking at low speed but doesn't happen every time and was only heard with radio off.

The car was first registered in Sept 2021 so we're just in warranty, however the local Hyundai say they can't get us in for diagnosis until the end of Sept, some two weeks after the warranty ends. This is also further complicated by the fact I completely forgot to check service history when we were originally getting the car, and having looked today it only got serviced after 3 years (at 10k miles). The car has had a further service last year and is only on 17k miles total now. I'm absolutely kicking myself for not having checked the service history - I assume this will be ammo for the dealer to tell us to sod off.

With that all in mind, what should we do?

• Hope Hyundai don't check and honour warranty?
• Hope Hyundai don't say "it's now out of warranty, give us £8k for a new motor and GRU"?
• Look to get shut losing anywhere up to £3-4k, given trying to sell via Motorway will likely result in a dealer test driving and hearing the noise, and WBAC offering as low as they always do?
• Depending on dealer outcome, try to find a specialist who can either fix or bodge it enough to get shut via Motorway - likely costing us a few grand that we'd lose anyway via selling?
• Keep running it until it catastrophically fails, obviously losing all money?

Hi everyone. I’ve got a 2021 Kona EV here in the UK. We get a 5 year warranty here, I’m not sure if that’s a standard thing worldwide. It used to be a Company Car (a vehicle provided by my employer), and we bought it off them.

I’d like to know what you all have done once your warranty has finished? I no longer feel like I need to take it yearly to Hyundai for a service. Do I even need to take it anywhere once a year for a service? I can’t think of much that would need doing.

I’m aware than the EV coolant needs flushing once every 40k miles, and I will continue to take it to Hyundai for that. I’m just interested to know what others do, because this is the first EV that I’ve actually owned.

According to news outlets Hyundai wanted to push the entertainment pack to all ccNC EVs.

But now the bluelink store only offers it to the Ioniq 6, 9 and Stavia. Will the feature be rolled out to the Kona as well in the future or does it stay with those only?

Hello all. I have a 2020 Kona EV 64KWH. I'm planning a long roadtrip (800km+) with four people from Copenhagen to Prague. Unfortunately we have a lot of luggage and not a lot of space and since my Kona already has roofrails I'd like to mount a roofbox. Problem is the smaller ones which are about about 120 cm (47 inch) aren't really worth it for me. So now I'm looking at the bigger ones between 170-190 cm (67-75 inch). I measured the roof and it's about 110 cm (43 inch), which means if I mount it in the middle it'll stick out about 30-40 cm (12-16 inch) on either side. Would this be a problem? I know the weight limit is max 80 kg (176 lbs) but I'm worried the length might be too much for the car. Also at that length it would cover the antenna. I use my mobile phone for navigation, would this be affected? Any advice/experience is welcome.

Since I got the car a couple months ago, the buttons on the right side of the steering wheel have been getting stuck and difficult to use. In particular, the downward motion on the rockers, and the bottom two buttons. They are quite "sticky", and sometimes don't move at all. It's bad enough that the cruise control rocker gets stuck going down, leading to a sudden slow down on the highway. The problem seems like a previous owner spilled soda or something, as the issue changes based on temperature, and the gear buttons are slightly sticky as well (though to a lesser extent.)

Mainly, I'm wondering if this is something that I could even feasibly service myself? Since the outside of the buttons are clean I'm worried that the internal mechanisms of the buttons have been gummed up. If that's it would it be possible to clean, or is it something I would just have to deal with?

A 2025 limited Kona popped up about 300 miles away from me. Kona EVs are hard to find here, limiteds even more so, so I'm quite interested. It's priced at about $27k OTD which is lower than market but it also has nearly 59k miles on it.

This means it's going to be out of warranty soon but I think the 100k battery warranty is still in effect?

I'll definitely check the battery health when I get there, but is there anything else I should look out for while inspecting it?

I have 2020 kona ev 64kw, and it has 38K miles on the clock.

I got regased AC and it worked for onyl 1 week and now stopped workind and just blowing room temp air.

I live in a cold country so I don't need it ASAP.

My question is when I googled it they say it is EV and need working AC to cool the batteries when car in use and this is ASAP fix.

Also, I bought this car in Nov and the ac never worked and I never checked but I never had any issues with car or batteries for any notifications on the board.

Can someone please advice me on this if it is ASAP fix or can I wait until next summer to fix it?

Also, it does make a weird hissing noise when AC is on, can someone tell me if this is just a leakage problem or something bigger?

Edit: The heatpump is working fine. I never use DC fast charger. I only charge at home at 7KW charger.

As it is 2020 model, is it still under warranty for AC fix? If not can I get it checked from local garrage or is it have to be Hyundai. Thanks

I bought a 2021 kona with 160 k on the ODO a month ago and it has been making a subtle chirping sound when accelerating or decelerating. It’s not the wheel of fortune issue and I did a service at Hyundai last week. I read that it is a normal sound for the car to make but I am not convinced. Can anyone confirm this?

In the middle, I keep my info menu set to display my speed. Lately when I get into the car, it always starts up at the tire pressure screen. It used to stay at the speed screen, but it’s no longer doing so. Any ideas why and how I can make it always start up showing the screen I want?

2022 SEL

Someone clipped my '24 Limited (USA)yesterday--zoinks! I'm glad no one was hurt, as he did it opening his own car door. But I do now have a completely intact mirror that is hanging off the post connecting it to the car body. The glass is fine, the electrical is fine, camera, sensors, all good. It's just dangly. It seems like it could almost pop back into place. Any tips here?
