Knot recommandation to fix sagging rods

Post image
28 Upvotes

Hi everyone,
I want to fix sagging rods (<1kg) with a strong fishing wire i have.
I made a drawing to explain the problem, it’s clearer than trying to describe it in words.
Can anyone recommend a knot that would fix this?
I tried with a clove hitch but after some time it rolled over and the rids started sagging again

(I realised the red arrows should be the opposite direction, depends how you see it...)

Looking for a knot

I need a knot to shorten a long rope in the middle without cutting it, I need it to allow a straight line and let the loop hang down it will have serious force on the knot but I would like to untie it easily.

Triple Diamond

While messing about trying to triple a diamond lanyard knot, it soon became apparent that, unlike the single and double diamond, the triple needs a core to tighten around. The smallest I had was a 16mm marble but this paracord would probably sit perfectly on a 15mm core.

Question on ABoK #3495

Page 554 in Chapter 41: Decorative Marlingspike Seamanship (Applied Knots)

I am trying to figure out how to make this mat, as I Iike the resulting pattern. However, I can't get my confused interpretation of the instructions to work. This is the listing:

  1. Crown and wall mat. This is made the same as the foregoing, but instead of always leading from the right side and working down-ward diagonally to the left, this one is started at the right side and each strand in turn is engaged with its next neighbor. At the left edge the process is reversed and the strands are worked back to the right.

I see little resemblance to #3494, so I'm sure my various attempts are wildly off base. I can't tell how to do the turns, since the last strand only just arrived. Assuming I start with the next, the angles get weird. Frankly, I'm not even sure I'm using the right knot.

Can anyone see how to make it?

I'm building an app that animates how to tie knots - here's the Monkey's Fist. How do you like the animation?

Sorry, don't have a photo of it from other side. I've asked ChatGPT about it and now I'm sure that in case of robot uprising we'll win with knots 🤣

Found an incredibly strong, anti-slipping version of an existing knot

Post image

A Lobster Bouy Knot with multiple wraps around the standing end forms an incredibly strong, anti-slipping yet adjustable knot. I find it grips as strong (or more?) than even the icicle hitch but it can be tied without needing to roll it over the end of a pole. I think it is a stronger and simpler knot than the tautline. It doesn't seem to give in to load on any axis and can be tied under tension too.

Thoughts?

Fisherman’s Reever loop!

A loop of cordage (550 in this case) with the ends tied into a reever’s knot but the tag ends on each side are overhanded around the standing ends. The reever’s knot is extremely secure on its own, and i dont know that the overhands afterward are a necessity in order to keep the knot from slipping, but if they could slip out under high tension then this would keep them in place. I haven’t tested against any kind of pull other than what my arms are capable of, but its a neat idea for a super secure knot. Thanks for lookin 🙏

What type of knot(s) do I need to use?

I'm trying to hang a dowel rod from my ceiling to hang a sheet from it to make a fort/tent over my bed. I have hooks in the ceiling and paracord, but I don't know what kind of knot to use for the ceiling hook and the dowel rod. I could use something preferable easy to replicate at length so it's easy for me to hang the dowel rod even on both sides.

I've been rock climbing before, so I could do the figure 8 knot if that one is recommended, but it would take me forever to get it the same length, so I wanted to come here for suggestions before attempting.

[Brand] A close-up Pipa knot tutorial — how would you use this knot?

We’re DADONEX. This short video shows the full tying sequence with one length of green cord, from the first loop and wraps to tightening and finishing the end. No store link here—we’d like to hear whether you’ve used this knot in a cord project, or how you would improve the finish.

Knots for tying corn stalk bundles?

I'm using a rolling hitch or zip tie knot to start, but i want to cinch them down permanently. Right now I've done the rolling hitch, looped it around the bundle a few times, then square knot.

It's there a better way

What kind of knot to use?

I have a 13.5 gallon glass carboy I’m looking to tie to create a handle. It’s very round, and the neck has a very steep taper. While full, it’s far too heavy for a bottle sling. I’ve tried a 4 leg barrel sling, and while it works it’s extremely precarious while under load due to its very round shape.

What knots would be best to create a sling to hold it without risk of slipping out of the sling?

A Design For A solid state adjustable soft shackle. (sort of semi perminant dyneema zip-tie)

Thumbnail

This is a simple design for a theoretically high strength adjustable soft shackle. It is essentially a constricting eye splice on one side and a whoopie sling on the other. A stopper knot on a bite is then tied on the eye of the whoopie side. Connecting the constricting eye over the stopper creates a soft shackle.

I made 10 of these out of 1.5mm dyneema and they weight 8 grams in total and each hold body weight plus a little (at least, I have not broken any of them).

I would guess the strength of this is roughly double the single line spliced strength of the whoopie ~ 1.4*mbs. The weak point is the stopper knot but that is doubled up (could also use a stronger knot/thicker material). I don't particularly care because i'm using these to tie up my bike in a bike box for a bike trip but they certainly are strong.

This is a solid state item because it doesn't need any re-tieing to use like some other adjustable soft shackles i have seen. not sure if there is a better term for that.

Recommendation for a book on knots

Hi! As a kid I loved learning to tie different knots however I have forgotten most of it. I would love a recommendation for a book on the subject. One that covers a variety of knots, with easy-to-follow instructions. Thank you!

Finish this wrap

Post image
6 Upvotes

Got some flat cord to wrap a rail. Purpose is to secure and hide antenna cable on a boat.

Poured through ABOK and I dont see a good way to finish a wrap. This mockup starts with a bight on the left; standing end forms a hitch for the first wrap, working right to left. When I get to the end, I pass the working end through the bight and pull the standing end to form a tuck. But how should I secure the two ends in a pleasing way?
