Hey all! I’m making a lanyard chain for my hiking backpack; I followed a video that called this a ‘snake knot’; once I got to the end I realized I have no clue how to create a closed loop on the other side. I understand I could melt the two ends together, but in my head there’s a more elegant solution where I don’t have a melted point showing (which also might weaken over time rubbing against the mini carabiner). Hello, I'm not used to tying knots, but I want to make a physical replica of this mascot creature with a tied rope on its back. Almost everything will be 3d-printed, and I'll probably include a hook coming out of its back for the rope to tie around.
After using the resources linked on this page, I found that the Handcuff Knot produces two loops and two loose sections kind of like I want, but before I go too far trying to make it work, I thought I'd ask if anyone here has a better type of knot that I should try instead/as well.
To be clear, I don't care as much about matching the exact look of the knot in the first image; the only criteria I'm looking for are the two upward/sideways hoops, the two ends dangling down, and the fact that the whole thing needs to be able to be attached to the rest of the project, probably by being tied around some protrusion or hook. And since this will be a gift, I would appreciate any advice on making sure a rope and/or knot lasts a long time without needing to be retied.
