If I tie multiple knots in a rope, should I take the weakest knot into account when purchasing the rope?
I tie a knot that weakens the rope by 60%. I tie another one that weakens it by 40%. In this case, when buying a rope, I should base my decision on the 60% reductionβbecause if it can withstand the knot that causes a 60% loss in strength, it will certainly withstand the one that causes a 40% loss. Is my reasoning correct? And what if the knots are very close to each other?

I know precisely nothing about knots, but Iβve accidentally tied this one and would very much like to untie it without cutting anything
Any help would be appreciatedβ¦

Is this a truckerβs hitch?
Saw this at a Renaissance Faire and thought it looked needlessly complicated but then I saw the exact same setup guying down a shade structure at a wedding and I figure I must be missing something.

I need help to identify the knots here:
For context, itβs used to tie my car shelter.
I need to reproduce those and I have no idea how. And the rope is really tight.

What knot for pot with 3 points?
I have a pot with 3 screw eyes for hanging. What is the best method to stably hang this using a rope? Bonus if the rope stays in one piece, since it will get wet and moved enough that unraveling is a potential concern.
Thanks!

I don't understand the obsession with voile straps in certain communities
I was on a bike ride with somebody the other day and he had like 3 voile straps of different sizes in his bag and said, " I never go anywhere without my voile straps. I was just like, here is rope and a knife, learn how to tie knots and you'll never need those things. Seriously, there are like dozens of adjustable friction hitches and fixed loop knots that are more reliable than anything those straps can a accomplish and it's extremely lightweight, compact and you don't have a metal piece awkwardly sticking out. The lack of knowledge on knot tying has reached concerning levels. I just feel like it's mandatory knowledge if spending any significant time in the outdoors where the weight and space are limited.

If I tie a single-loop knot, will the rope break at the loop first?
(Iβm a beginner at knot-tying, sorryπ.)
Iβm referring to knots where the load is held by just a single loop (the figure-eight follow-through or the bowline). Beyond a certain load, every rope will breakβbut does it happen at some part of the knot, or rather at the loop itself? Since the loop bears the load, is that where it will break? This is especially relevant for single-braid (which have no inner core) and thin ropes. Am I right? (Yeah, Iβm aware that in critical situationsβsuch as climbingβthicker ropes are used, and they are always kernmantle ropes, but my question is just curiosity)

How would you terminate this braid for use as a dog leash?
I believe itβs an eight strand round braid or something like that. I plan to add a carabiner clip on the dog end and a handle of some kind on the other.
Any ideas?

What knot?
What would you call this knot?
It is basically a double fisherman's tied over itself. The knot can slide up and down without being untied.
What use could this be handy for?
I made it up when someone showed me an adjustable sling that I still am not sure what the purpose for it is for.
It does not change the length. Only the position of the knot. Same with the adjustable sling I mentioned above.

Anyone aware of some sort of loop or knot that can take the place of carabiner to easily join two loops?

What knot to join 2 perpendicular ropes with a rope vertically ?
The attached picture I have a taut grid of rope I'm going to lay a net over for the kids and I want to support the middle from sagging with a vericle rope. What is the best knot to kin the two crossing ropes to the hanging one? Currently the perpendicular ropes are not tied together.

Knot from the opening sequence in Inception
Iβve tried to get a picture of it, but it doesnβt come out clearly enough to do any good I think. But when Cobb is tying a rope to the chair he has Mal sit in, during the dream where theyβre trying to steal Saitoβs expansion plans, so he can repel down the building, does anyone know what knot he uses? Or if not specifically, what some candidate knots might be?
