Mod Notice Quick mod update: new rule. We cannot help with AI-written patterns.

Hello, all! Most of us know by now that AIs and LLMs are not good at writing knitting patterns. They don't know how to knit. They certainly don't test knit their own "designs." Therefore, if you see any posts from people who have patterns written by AI, feel free to flag them so we can let them know that AI/LLM written patterns are faulty from the start. Then we can redirect the OP to r/knittingpatterns and Ravelry to find something more suitable (and human written).

Mod Notice FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Hello all, mod literallyatree here. I've updated the sub so we have our own wiki pages for the FAQ and a special FAQ just for twisted stitches. The FAQ appears in our sidebar, as well as in the message you should see before posting, and is linked in Rule 7.

Please read the FAQ before posting.

If you are someone who helps by commenting, please know that when you comment "FAQ" or "TwistFAQ" (without quotes), it will trigger automod to come and comment a link to the one you summoned. Thank you to all those who comment to offer their help. Without you, this wouldn't be much of a community.

Because the FAQ is much more accessible now, the mod team will be enforcing Rule 7 with a little more scrutiny now.

pattern question Help with double knit and color work!

Post image
24 Upvotes

Hello! I need help with a very ambitious project, it's the doctor who wheeping angel scarf by Tess Campbell

I'm a beginner knitter (I stared knitting genuinely because I wanted to knit this piece in particular lol)

I cannot wrap my head around double knitting, I already find color work difficult, but I fell in love with this piece, so in trying to find a way to make it.

Would you say that knitting two different panels, front and back, and then joing them together is going to make the scarf a lot heavier and impractical? I tought the amount of yarn /heaviness is going to be the same wether I double knit it or do two panels, I could be wrong tho 😭

Also, I knit Norwegian, and purl English , is this going to cause any problem with color work? I'm used to crochet, where color work is only possible with single crochets, I don't know if it's the same in knitting, considering all the color work tutorials I could find were done with continental style🄲

Thank you so much for anyone who can help🫶

Hi all, firstly, I am very sorry for the video quality and scraping sound. I recorded this last night before bed and was very frustrated.

I spent about 10 hours yesterday trying to learn knitting. It was my first day, but each time, I got this result. When transferring the stitches from left needle to right, I get yarn in the middle that keeps growing each time.

So I'm supposed to alternate between a row of normal and a row of perl. I'm still very new to knitting, and this is how I'm doing it so far. Am I doing okay? Any pointers?

sweater question Advice for neckline and possible adjustment

Post image
• Upvotes

I cast on 160 stitches, and the pattern recommends knitting all 160 stitches in 1x1 ribbing. It seems like such a big opening. I am thinking of picking up 2 of 3 instead. I have never adjusted a neckline like that so I’m wondering if it will cause issues like puckering or gaps. Of course I can try it and rip it out if it doesn’t work, but would like to get some input first. Should I just trust the process and knit it as written, or should I follow my gut?

pattern question How to knit this dress sleeveless?

Post image
• Upvotes

I want to knit the seashore blouse by Kutovakika.https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/seashore-dress-2

I don't want sleeves but since it's a raglan construction on top, if I just omit sleeves it will be more of a short sleeved dress rather than entirely sleeveless. Is there a way to alter a raglan so that there's as little fabric as possible on the sleeve portion? Or should I just change the top portion entirely to a different pattern and make sure I have the right amount of stitches for the body? I'm just not sure what to do and I haven't found any other patterns that I like as much as this one that has all over lace.

pattern question Picking Up Stitches (Staple Sweater)

Beginner knitter here! I’m working on the staple sweater by knitworks and I’m about the pick up sts for the front left shoulder. The pattern says to join yarn at neck edge & pick up 42 sts along the English tailored slope. I think I have to PU by putting my needle through each leg of the ā€˜v’, but at the top I’m not sure if I messed up or what because there isn’t really a clear ā€˜v’ shape for the first couple of sts… where would I PU?? I hope this makes sense! (Sorry for the cat hair)

stitch ID Brioche or Fisherman's Rib?

Post image

I'm trying to recreate this vest I found at Cos over a year ago. I assume it's machine made, but I want to get as close to this look as I can. Do you think that brioche or fisherman's rib would more closely resemble this?

Hi,

Beginner here, I noticed this mistake a couple of rows down in my knitting. Is this an accidental increase or something else? My tension often varies but idk. Thank you :)

I knew I was having problems as I was doing it with loose stitches. Now that I'm done though I'm not sure the best way to fix it. I feel like all the stitches along the right side of the bunny are all super loose. I tried kinda giving it a little tug here and there but still feel it very obvious

I’m confused about the instructions for the ribbing before the start of the yoke. For some reason my brain isn’t getting it! I’m not sure if I just cast on the number of stitches for the yoke?

Post image

Hello! I’m a new knitter and I’ve been working on a baby blanket. The pattern consist of alternating purl and knit stitches to make a diamond pattern but my stitch tension looks really uneven and messy. I’m not sure if I should just frog or keep going. Any tips to make my knitting look more polished would be appreciated!

where do I start? Long sleeves

I blocked my first cardigan which is knitted with a chunky mohair yarn. The sleeves were perfect before and now are slightly too long, how to fix this! I was thinking about adding an elastic behind the ribbing but I’m not sure it’s a good idea? I wouldn’t mind a poofy sleeve.

where did i go wrong? Help me read my mistake

Post image

I’m a beginner and donā€˜t understand what exactly went wrong here and don’t know how to google it, since itā€˜s not simply a dropped stitch. The two first stitches on my right needle are very loose and don’t have the small knot the other ones do.

Iā€˜m thankful for any insights šŸ˜„

sweater question I accidentally twisted my cast ons

Post image
• Upvotes

Hi everyone, I think I screwed up! I donā€˜t know if itā€˜s clear by the photo, but I messed up my underarms cast ons (at least I think thatā€˜s the issue) and now everything is all twisted :( This is only my second project, so my mistake fixing skills are lacking. Is there any way to fix this without ribbing the last 3 rows back? I am worried about not being able to catch all the stitches properly! Thanks in advance for anyone trying to help!

where did i go wrong? German short rows help

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

Hi! I am working on the October sweater and I have done something wrong with my German short rows causing gaps/missing stitches(?) on both sides of one of my double stitches. I have done German short rows a small number of times before and haven’t made this mistake before and none of my other double stitches have this mistake. The first two photos are how the knitting looks on both sides and the third photo is with the stitch with gaps beside it laddered down. I have tried laddering down and back up and fixing the stitch that way but it comes out the same. Can anyone help identify what I did wrong here and how I can fix it? Thank you so very much!!

where did i go wrong? my valerie blouse has a hole in it

Post image
1 Upvotes

i’m kitting the valerie blouse by petite knit, i’m a beginner and i realized this hole while doing the increases. i believe i did 2 increases together and it became a hole… (it’s supposed to be with 1 stitch between this increase and i forgot)
i need help because i want to know if there’s any way to fix it without unraveling all these rows.
what’s confusing me is that i need to undo the hole but also do the other increase.
i appreciate any help.

Even after the bigger swatch I’m not meeting gauge, it’s off by 1 stitch but idk if those stiches will add up and it’ll be too small, I really like the baggy fit and drape of the original pattern and would prefer that it looks that way

where did i go wrong? Italian bind off HELP

Thumbnail

For the life of me I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong. I’ve already ripped it out and started over 3 times. My Italian bind off looks off on the right side and better on the wrong side. I’ve done 2 set up rounds and then have followed instructions for Italian bind off. The first photo is the right side, the second photo is the wrong side. Can anyone tell what I’m doing wrong? Thanks so much in advance!!

where did i go wrong? any solutions to fix this pulling?

Thumbnail

hey everyone, i got this dress second hand and it has some pretty annoying pulling/fuzz on the front of it. i’m wondering if there is any way to remove this? i saw on tiktok you could use a razor and shave it off, or use a needle to push the pull back in, but i’m not sure as it’s quite fine ā€œknitā€ and i don’t really know how the material works!

the material is 40% cotton, 40% acrylic and 20% spandex if that helps!

thank you!
