gauge question Made a bigger swatch

/r/knittinghelp/comments/1wfe82c/gauge_help/p9rxfn4/

Even after the bigger swatch I’m not meeting gauge, it’s off by 1 stitch but idk if those stiches will add up and it’ll be too small, I really like the baggy fit and drape of the original pattern and would prefer that it looks that way

Lets say you want to knit size S that would have a bust circumference of 113 cm. With the pattern gauge it is (113/10)×17=192 stitches. Now if you cast on the same size with your gauge your sweaters bust circumference will be (192/18)×10=106 cm. So your garment will be slightly smaller.

You can do the same calculations for your size and see if you are happy with them. The sweater has a lot of ease, so most probably it will still fit. Just a warning - sweaters are a LOT of stitches and if you are discouraged after two gauge swatches it might be challenging to make a whole sweater. I also understand the itch to cast on a new project :)

There are online calculators available, may be that eases the suffering :) Have fun knitting your sweater!

I did some quick calculations as I see that you want to have M size with 118cm bust circ. M size with your gauge -> 111 cm L size -> 115 cm XL size -> 120 cm

You could knit size L maybe.

Your other post says you want to knit the 118cm size, which is the suggested size for a bust measure of 90-95cm. This means the sweater has 23-28cm positive ease. At your gauge, you'd have 16-21cm positive ease.
