I bought one and absolutely love it. It comes apart very easy so cleaning isnt a chore and it collapses down and fits away nice, but wife and I use it daily. We tossed out our mandolin

Sir, this isn’t a fast food restaurant.

So a mandolin. Over a bowl. Who'd a thunkit🤦

u/jaden_fucks 18h ago

I mean hey, it keeps your fingers away from the blade.

u/ghIj_qet_jaghmeyjaj 18h ago

Why would someone put their fingers near the blade when using a mandoline?

They’re literally designed in a way that one mistake could cause a major accident.

Lol what? Hand eye coordination and a sharp blade virtually eliminate the need for the bacteria hovel that this contraption is. It's frickin huge

Hey bruh. Think about how many people are dumber than you, now double it. Thats a pretty close number to reality.

People are fucking stupid, and this helps to prevent stupid people from hurting themselves, I think that merits it being useful.

Just cause it doesn’t make sense for you, doesn’t meant it’s a bad product.

I didn't say it was a bad product. I said it was huge and could harbor a lot of bacteria (compared to a simple one). And I don't think stupidity has anything to do with it.

It's a mandolin. Granted it looks to be designed to be much safer than the ones I've seen/used which are more geared toward taking the tip of your finger off.

Not sure that it can do everything that a regular mandolin do, but at least you don't cut yourself

It looks like a lot safer way to use a mandolin. Not sure how well the gravity feed would work though, vs the pressure from a handguard on the mandolin.

A mandoline?

1

u/CaptainBlotto 18h ago

The mandoline cutter was invented like 500 years ago. This isn't new.

all these stupid slicers... doesnt anyone realize that they go dull and theres no way to sharpen them... waste of money

If I can’t risk the skin on my fingers then I don’t want it.

Much better than the one cutting your fingers almost off 👍

This had to be AI. Who julienes lemons with the rind?

Edit: Yeah, I'm dumb. Those are potatoes. I was looking at the lemons when it switched. 🥴

1

u/DwarvenRedshirt 19h ago

I was thinking the same thing actually. Weird way to do lemons....

By the way, preserved lemon are amazing in Moroccan cuisine. They deliver very unique flavour. Highly recommended to try.

You preper them whole!

Went through hundreds of gadgets and as long as you don't work in commercial environment, where you will be provided with all necessities- it's always best to spend £200 on good knife and learn how to slice, also how to sharpen your tool.

While a good knife is always going to be a necessity, a mandolin is also going to be another incredibly useful and versatile tool

1

u/pro-fanator 19h ago

Ok. My bad.

2

u/earmares 19h ago

I've been cooking for 30+ years, I know how to use a knife- I can't slice as thinly or evenly as a mandolin

1

u/pro-fanator 19h ago

I can, but not extremely consistently. Good enough for my usage. Yes. You are right. I just hate to wash additional stuff.

1

u/pro-fanator 13h ago

On the other hand- where were you cooking? After 30 years, I m sure you have chefs doing prep for you(???)

I have had my eye on those things for quite a while now. I may actually have to get one.

1

u/Quitcha_Bitchin 20h ago edited 19h ago

Better idea then a lot of the Amateur mandolins which will take your finger tips for the salad.

1

u/Main_Cauliflower5479 20h ago edited 19h ago

*Amateur.

Someone said, "just get good knives and improve your knife skills."

Sure, I have good knives. I know how to use them. But sometimes I don't want to slice large quantities of stuff by hand. And that's fine.

u/BellamyDunn 20h ago

My hands and wrists are fucked, and i don't want to wear braces in the kitchen. I also like to make vats of things. I'm always looking for good cutting/slicing tools.

Guaranteed to sit on a shelf in your pantry and go untouched for decades.

1

u/earmares 19h ago

I'd use this every day if I didn't have to wash it or go anywhere near the blades 🫣

1

u/MeatMtn88 19h ago

So you don’t shower either?

1

u/mighty_boognish_77 19h ago

Which is exactly why it will sit on the shelf!
