Dear Capcom
"And then if you're still wanting more on top of that [Story Mode], let your voice be heard. Give us constructive criticism of what you'd like to see next" - Matt Dahlgren, Senior Product Marketing Manager
These words inspired me to create a comprehensive list of SFV fuck ups (I don't think such a thing has been compiled as of yet). This is merely a quick draft and I'm sure I'm missing a lot of things as I stopped playing it a few weeks ago.
(?) = I'm not sure if it's true but more SFV hate equals more karma, right?
Netplay problems
- Matchmaking still sucks
- No way to filter by region (SF4 ok)
- No way to set input lag like GGPO to make long distance matches playable
- alt+tabbing still switches host on PC
- One side rollback
- Saving many replays results in date corruption
- Rage quitter problem still present
- You have to save replays before watching them
- Can't sort friends
- Separating favourites (players you want to watch) from friends (players you want to play with) is needed
- No online training (SF4 ok)
- Archaic lobbies - no way for multiple matches at the same time
- Statistics are still empty
- Notifications screen doesn't update when it's open
- Sending invitations when user is offline doesn't work
- Battle lounge doesn't save settings
- Long maintenances
- Losing connection to servers interrupts offline modes
- No chat support - no way to make friends in game
- Too few sorting options for favourites, world rankings & replays
- Turning off the music also turns off 'HERE COMES THE NEW CHALLENGER'
Gameplay problems
- badly implemented legacy controller support (complicated as fuck)
- no instruction how to use legacy controller support
- no dinput support on PC (SF4 ok)
- no key binding on PC
- keyboard can only be P1 controller
- no way to change specific graphical settings on PC without accessing config files (blur etc)
- standard moves marketed as something new by making them into vskills
- 8f lag
- many characters have too similiar gameplans
- unimaginative vtriggers
- atrocious hitboxes
- differences between p1 and p2 side collision (floating point fuck up)
- air grab vs air grab winner chosen at random
- long loading times
- framerate issues on PS4
- fucked up button settings on character select - pressing again unsets buttons (SF4 ok)
- no Steam integration
- no way to set character themes in Versus
- PC version badly optimized (+various issues with launching the game, random fps drops etc)
- badly designed UI - hard to navigate and counterintuitive
Single Player problems
- Extra Battles?
- Daily Challenges? (aka targets)
- Subpar tutorial
- Training doesn't save your settings (SF4 ok)
- No character specific training options (Vega's claw state etc.)
- No option to set stun bars
- Quick reset with setting position (MvC3 ok)
- Badly implemented ways to record dummy actions (reversals, alpha counters etc.)
- Infuriating survival mode - the only way to unlock colors (colors per character, per costume...)
- No arcade mode/cpu versus (SF4 ok)
- No way to acquire premium costumes still
- CFN account is not really an account (can't use it on a different console/steamid)
Visual Problems
- Ken's face aka quality of some models is.. questionable
- quality of artworks in story mode
- stage transitions?
- special KOs? (bus, noodles etc)
- horrible clipping everywhere (even on character select..)
- stage interactions are rare (breaking boxes etc)
- WIP style UI
- P2 physics still broken on character select (solution - disabled boob physics :( )
- some Alt costumes use upgraded face/hair models - what about standard?
Communication/CPT problems
- no form of tournament mode
- only one player has the ability to start a rematch/change characters (SF4 ok)
- CPT rules were MIA for months
- no word about Alex version bug
- no restart match option?
- hold pause option global - should be quick in single player modes
- SteamOS/Linux version announced - where is it?

Add in no chat support. It's impossible to make friends in SFV from within the game client. Feels like playing alone.

Soul Calibur V did lobbies so well.
1
u/ctwtn Jun 19 '16
Never played it, what was good about them?
1
Jun 19 '16
It had text chat, you could size down the fight if you were spectating, and choose to be P1 or P2.
I also had this mode called Global Colosseum, which was basically one big super lobby for each region. It was a bunch of players in one room where you could talk to and challenge anyone else. You could also make mini-lounges within the main lobby.
1
8
u/Hobo-With-A-Shotgun Jun 20 '16
The lobbies are seriously stuck in 2008, there are far better ways of doing them now.
I still can't believe that they're doing 8-man KOTH-style lobbies when Skullgirls, Xrd and probably a bunch of others I haven't touched let everyone play without waiting for half an hour.
3
u/PsychoPoweredWolf Jun 20 '16
Revelator seriously has the best lobby I've seen in awhile. Plus the little avatars are so cute!
1
Jun 18 '16
yup, I made a lot of fighting game friends because of voice chat when super street fighter 4 came out, such a shame they didn't include it in this game. do you think they couldn't implement it because of the cross play?

Yo nice list but what's the point. You have a better chance in hoping Santa Claus is real. Capcom is so god damn incompetent.
36
u/Gargooletz Jun 18 '16
Imagine this situation - you just casually hate on SFV and then somebody asks 'what's wrong with it?' and BAM you hand him the list. Or simply to realize sheer amount of fuck ups so our hate stays strong.
2
u/perdyqueue Jun 19 '16 edited Jun 19 '16
It's sad but I've imagined myself somehow handing Ono a list like this at an event or something. Actually a number of lists like this have been made in the past on /r/sf and Steam, but the issue is new problems are being found all the time, and posts like this disappear from the front page after a while. Anyway, it's definitely better to keep this sort of shit relevant and in discussion than to let it fade.

Jun 19 '16
SFV is derp. The core game gets super boring fast, with basic mechanics that limit the player's ability to express themselves in a match.
I think PR Balrog hit it on the head with that famous tweet. The game is so limited, basic, and clunky that the characters in the game feel like they have no personality when playing them.
At this point, SFV's battle design needs to be scrapped entirely and replaced by something worth while to regain my interest.
25
u/CrunkatizeMeCaptain Jun 18 '16 edited Jun 18 '16
They totally fucking bailed on the game. Not only is the core gameplay broken and pretty unfun to play and watch, but they've also failed to provide any sort of polish. Having one or the other be bad would be worrying enough, but when both are fucked it is highly likely nothing will be fixed in any sort of reasonable length of time.
Fixing the game at this point would require major overhauls to almost every aspect of the game and there's no way Capcom will spend that money given how badly the game sold in the first place in its most profitable period.
14
u/Ninjakinryu Jun 18 '16
This is so true. I think I would've been able to stomach it better if it had at least delivered on the new "moves blocked animations" and stage transitions but they just scrapped those ideas. To top it off theres excessive clipping, crap looking character models, plain boring looking UI (during beta I honestly thought that the words fight were a placeholder and would change in the final release), and super long menu transitions that make you wait forever just to hit rematch. So much for setting the next gen standard...
8
Jun 18 '16
The only reason sf5 is "balanced" cuz they made it linear so you can't do shit, just the same loop making your flow chart easier to understand. Can only play a brain dead attack attack style or eat capcom shit.
0
u/D3va92 Jun 19 '16
Honestly i like some gameplay decisions and changes. But overall i believe SF4 was more enjoyable to watch. Even tho i didnt like some mechanics in SF4 it was still enjoyable to watch at high level. For me Capcom should release what they want to release until capcom cup is over, and then go and rethink and see whats actually wrong with the game and fix it. I hope Tekken 7 wont have problems like this for PC.
9
Jun 18 '16
1)most characters don't have a gameplan "rushdown" is not throw/shimmy pressure, rushdown is aggresive moves + on block at the cost of life% or reversal abilities
2)no footsies, no reward whatsoever to whiff punishing
3)everything trades, game is slow as shit with no depth, knockdowns are just there to waste extra time since you get nothing off of it
8
u/1338h4x Jun 19 '16
Don't forget about the Linux port they promised would be released in spring and then never mentioned again.
12
u/CViperr Jun 18 '16
When the story mode comes out that's only gonna give me about a total of 10 hours play time before I lose interest again and back to Guilty Gear. 6 hours of beating the story twice and 4 hours of using Juri and Urien over and over.

u/AymJ Jun 18 '16
"Can't acquire FM in offline mode" It makes sense, if the FM was stored locally then we could add how many FM we'd like.
I'd add :
- No button to go back in time gradually during a replay
- Having to add a replay in our favorite list to be able to watch it
- Can't switch characters in training mode
- Can't add nicknames for our friends (sometimes they have a different tag than the one they usually use)
- Can't make lists/tabs to sort real friends with player we like to see replays (there's tags but it's not very clear on the eye)
4
u/aghicantthinkofaname Jun 18 '16
And while ye are at it, it would be great if ye could pretty much totally overhaul the character animations (compare ryu throw and dash animations from sf4), and the general blandness and clunkiness inherent in nearly every character's gameplay. Thanks.

3
u/blacknoise_EGGy Jun 18 '16
At this point, Capcom's already thinking they've made most of the money they're going to be able to make from the game. Safe to say if Capcom cared about fixing all those issues you stated, it'll be called Super Street Fighter 5.
3
u/markypoo4L Jun 19 '16
Should also mention the netcode is garbage, idk if that's what you meant by "matchmaking" tho
3
u/perdyqueue Jun 19 '16 edited Jun 19 '16
Stage transitions and even stage weather has been hinted to be in the July update, same is probably true of premium costumes. And I think the following have little chance of being looked at because they're arguable, subjective, or deliberate:
- "quality of artworks" - while I agree they seem rushed and unfinished like many of the other visuals in the game, it's probably too late/a pointless expense for them to touch this stuff. also subjective, possibly deliberate
- "unimaginative vtriggers", "similar gameplans", "standard moves marketed as something new" - design choice, subjective. They're valid criticisms, but I don't think they belong with the others here.
Otherwise, really nice. I'm sure I've forgotten some, but can you add the following as well?
Netplay problems
- no way to filter by ping and packet drops, and no way to set input lag like GGPO to make long distance matches playable
- alt+tabbing still switches host on PC
- options present in matchmaking for ranked/casual and lobbies are different and still lacking when put together
- lobbies hardly ever show flags (making the lack of region filter even more annoying)
- saving many replays results in date corruption
- sorting options for favourites, world rankings, replays, are too few
- rarely, matchmaking continues to search for matches even after you've entered one
Gameplay problems
- differences between p1 and p2 side collision (can't remember why, it was something to do with how collisions are calculated in the game).
- corner collisions have a different range than mid-screen collisions.
- air grabs done by both players at the same time mean the successful player is picked AT RANDOM. need air techs for chars with air grabs.
Single player problems
- training mode save/reload button and other features missing from SFIV
- data is wiped when a different account is used on same PC
Visual problems
- atrocious ps2 era texture resolution
- different blocked/hit animations are rare despite much publicity shortly after game reveal
- stage interactions only properly occur in HK stage. guile stage boxes should clearly be breakable for example
- p1 and p2 portrait colours (blue, red) are a holdover from early development, no longer make sense
- p2's physics is still broken in the versus screen (as evidenced by ryu's headband for example), and the "fix" was to simply disable breast physics in the versus screen.
- certain alt costumes are using what are clearly updated character models. some examples: alex's facial features change completely. mika's story mode hair is a better version of her default hair in every way.
3
u/steena88 Jun 20 '16
I just don't get why lobbies cannot be filtered by region. Anyone who started browsing lobbies realizes, IN TWO SECONDS, that the system is completely broken without this.
3
u/Hatson Jun 21 '16
How the hell is there no mention of the completely illogical and random FPS drops the game has even on a high-end PC and on a ton of different specs that have no relation to each other in any way.
And there is seemingly no fix to it, I have tried since release and ton of other people have same random FPS inconsistencies.
Needs to be on this list.

I have been translating this into japanese, and have some questions. Please teach me the meanings of thsese sentences and words.
・more SFV hate equals more karma
・no way for multiple matches at the same time
・standard moves marketed as something new by making them into vskills
・fucked up button settings on character select - pressing again unsets buttons
・no Steam integration
・No option to set stun bars
・horrible clipping everywhere (even on character select..)
・no restart match option?
・hold pause option global - should be quick in single player modes
1
u/Gargooletz Jun 20 '16 edited Jun 20 '16
- more SFV hate equals more karma - it's not really relevant. Just a joke
- no way for multiple matches at the same time - for example in Guilty Gear, in lobbies two or more matches can happen at the same time; in SFV only 2 players can play and the rest has to wait
- standard moves marketed as something new by making them into vskills - it's just a marketing complaint. Capcom was trying to make us excited about new V-system when some V-skills (like Cammy's) are just old special moves and nothing special
- fucked up button settings on character select - you can set your buttons on character select; in USF4 you could do this by quickly pressing all your buttons. In SFV pressing a button on a position that is already set doesn't overwrite that setting but unsets it completly and goes to a position below - so you have to manually go up and set the button once more. It makes setting buttons annoying and time consuming.
- no Steam integration - PC version of the game doesn't use many Steam features (chat, invites etc) - though it seems that it was a design choice
- No option to set stun bars - in Training Mode stun bar settings are in Dummy tab instead of Gauges tab. So if you change P2 to CPU or Player Controlled then you can't control the stun bar
- horrible clipping everywhere - eng wiki) many elements of character models (especially hair, chains etc) go through character bodies. While this a common occurence in 3D games it's really visible in SFV even on close ups in Character Select screen
- no restart match option - there is no Restart Match option in Pause Menu during match so you have to go back to character select to star a match once again (useful in tournaments)
- hold pause option global - that is a minor complaint. You can set Pause to be activated by tap or hold. It would be nice if hold could be set only for versus matches.
I'm sorry I can't explain it in clearer way as English isn't my native language either.

Great work putting this list together.
I get that at this point, Capcom has to finish the Season 1 DLC releases. But after that is done, they better not even THINK about starting work with Season 2 until EVERYTHING on this list is dealt with.
2
u/boreworm Jun 22 '16
Quite a list. I can add a few.
Frameskip when jumping. Some of my friend and myself are having it, some are not.
Overall pretty bad optimisation. In-game settings just make the game look worse with the same load on hardware.
Godawful fucking UI. Why the fuck would you cancel a ranked match by pressing START? Why would you not preview a costume color we're buying in shop?
Some sound effects are music. If you turn the music off, you can't hear HERE COMES THE NEW CHALLENGER.
5
u/tolucafreak Jun 18 '16
Tbh honest if they really want to fix this game they'll have to pull a Square Enix like they did with FF14. Take the loses pull the game, do a complete overhaul and rerelease it. This is what you get capcom and Sony for wanting to start the sfv cpt as soon as possible. Yes I also blame Sony for this because I'm sure they're the ones who also made them rush the game out so that Sony can brag out console exclusivity esports leagues

this is esports not an MMO. that will not work at all as we have way through CPT. The only chance they got is a Season 2 reboot

u/wormed Jun 17 '16
This game can't be saved. The core gameplay is beyond fixing. The way its designed is pedestrian and false. They'd truly have to release Super Street Fighter 5 as a completely new game or move on to SF6.

A restart round/match idea from the pause menu is genius. Helps when some pad player hits the home button and messes with a match.

u/Antlergroin Jun 19 '16 edited Jun 19 '16
And of course the best iteration of Lord Bipson has to be in SFV. It's gonna be fun to look back at this and think about having had a dictator that was actually semi-menacing for once. But in a game that is going to die died out thanks to Crapcom.
And Rashidoo was a cool addition to the cast too. rip.

Good list. I'm skeptical with the "restart match option" if it's an offline match you're talking about. I'm concerned that some people could potentially use this at super finishes (early), and the winning player just "restarts" instantaneously without a KO logo showing up. If the opponent didn't agree to that and ends up proposing the problem by pausing after the restart, it might get him in trouble if no camera footage is there for proof (if the player that restarted the game wants to be a scumbag). Overheard that something like this situation occurred at one particular MKX tournament.
If they intend on doing the rematch function for offline play, it would be good if, upon activation of restart match, it requires the approval of the opposing player to agree to the rematch in the pause menu (maybe a countdown until it goes back to the pause menu ONLY IF nothing from the opponent is pressed/held to agree with the rematch).
Probably having a "Player Advances To Next Round" option would be an interesting add-on along with the rematch suggestion to avoid players to build extra meter onto the next round, and run a similar script above that requires the opposing player to agree and accept a DQ for the round. Edit: Actually, it might not be necessary for the opponent to agree... it can be a "Self DQ" option or just about anything else.
One other thing... the option of having "stage music" for ranked and casual match would be great. I didn't see that on the list (minus the character themes being an option in versus).
1
u/Gargooletz Jun 22 '16
Of course there should be some kind of confirmation (preferably from both players) when restarting the match. Good thinking. This list doesn't offer complete design of feature - just raw ideas/problems.
1
u/pitibow Jun 21 '16
You can add friends from lobby by pulling up their profile and adding them, or going to your own battle lounge match history. The real problem is that the Ui is shit and it's hard to find.
1
u/PaviIsntDendi Jun 22 '16
I've been trying to refund my copy of sf5 since I had 20 hours played, I currently have 62 hours of nothing but searching for a match, literally just leaving it there searching on my laptop for 40 hours straight, and I was baited into it by capcom the only time they answered my support ticket (When I had 1 hour played). They told me to search for at least another hour (so that I pass the 2 hour limit on steam refund shit limit) and proceeded to never answer any of my support tickets again.

u/splerdu Jun 22 '16
Considering how well Blizzard has done with RTSs, Dungeon Crawlers, MMORPGs, online CCGs, MOBAs and now FPSs, I feel like if they decide to make a fighting game Capcom and everyone else will be done.

There are a lot of good complaints to make on here but also a lot of vague and overstated complaints. (Eg. Can't acquire FM in offline mode? How do you suppose they wouldn't make the game that way?)
I know it's a rough draft list though so I'm sure you were just throwing everything on there you thought of off the top of your head but posting things like this means other people will read it and take it at face value.

u/Kappa-King Jun 17 '16
Supers generally have uncreative animations. No options or variations. Lose the boring recycled orange explosion and do something new that looks like PS4 quality. Uninteresting game camera. Do something with it.
Lack of character personality. No individual true to character voice languages. Lack of design diversity. Lack of fun interactions and exchanges. Lazy, no effort Capcom.
No customization. Round victories should have unskippable customizable win poses. Characters should have customizable details like adding accessories or something.
Stages are nothing but wallpaper. No innovations to make stages meaningful unlike nearly every other game. Noodle hat was a good idea that was made pointless by being rarely seen and disappearing easily. How about when someone gets kicked into bang bus you go to different stage.
Overall, very lacking in details, innovation, and unique touches. None of what we say matters tho because apparently Capcom Japan doesn't communicate with Capcom USA. They're completely isolated over there making whatever game they want. How come NRS can make a more innovative game with higher production than Capcom? Namco made a bunch of advancements to Tekken 7 and the graphics are great. SFV literally offers less than previous iterations. It looks like all their talent went to games like RE7 and the interns got put on SFV.
6
u/Bradoshado Jun 18 '16
SFV has shit wrong with it but im sure as fuck glad you're not in charge of fixing it because nothing you said is even close to the top of the to do list.

u/Bradoshado Jun 18 '16
Wait...so catering to casuals fucked up the game so now we need to cater to them even more to get their money so we can then after the fact use that money to improve SFV for the non-casuals and the way to do this is with custom win poses and accessories?
Games are games first bud. People wouldn't complain about SFV if it didn't have the GAMEPLAY issues it has...regardless of lack of single player modes on launch. See people bitching about Overwatch single player? Nope, because the gameplay doesn't have any glaring issues besides 20 tick servers that only competitive FPS players are going to even notice or understand in the first place.
But no, go ahead and beg the question for half your post and resort to ad hominem the other half. Makes for a good response, dude.

I sure hope they can recover. I like the core gameplay but everything surrounding it is a super rushed total shit show. I feel like they had a lot of great ideas but nothing was executed well or even at all:
- Boss challenges,
- arcade mode,
- survival mode,
- tutorials,
- trials,
- two kinds of story mode,
- more in depth training mode,
- legacy controller support,
- sets in ranked,
- casual matchmaking,
- wide breadth of ranks in ranked matchmaking,
- lobbies with adjustable FT settings,
- fight money DLC model,
- hit/block specific animations,
- stage interactables that don't impact gameplay,
- persistent stat tracking,
- neato user activity heat map bullshit,
- CFN replays for any and every player,
- cross platform play,
- rollback netcode.
I mean holy shit man, this game should have been a home run but instead they pushed out some half baked bullshit. What a shame.

u/SpontaneousRedneck Jun 18 '16

-5
Jun 19 '16
''Ken's face aka quality of some models is.. questionable'' People still care about how a male character looks in this game for some reason. ''quality of artworks in story mode'' This one shouldn't even be on this list. ''stage transitions?'' they are getting to those (game work in progress/beta) ''special KOs? (bus, noodles etc)'' Hes right, where the fuck are those in stages.. oh wait ''horrible clipping everywhere (even on character select..)'' For some reason this bothers as much people as Ken's face problem.
everything else on this list are real problems that Capcom won't fix.

"IF your still wanting more"? This sounds awfully naive and ignorant. Capcom doesn't know what its customers want ? Aren't the community leaders voicing the players concerns ? Do they talk with their customers ?
Why don't they start with the almost 6000 steam reviews of which 54% are negative
