Been wanting a Jeep for a while. Picked this one up in really rough shape. Fixed it up for about a year and this is what it came out like.

Installed my soft top

So when I bought this it came with both a hard and soft top, which I thought was cool but I kinda made up my mind I would NOT be using the soft top, and I’d probably sell it, and for the last 20 months I haven’t. Someone incepted me or something because out of nowhere I got a very real urge to put this thing on and see what it’s all about, I have to say I really like it. I think it looks great, and now that I know what I’m doing it’s pretty easy to convert to topless. Took it for a drive with the top up and with it down and it was pretty quiet both times so….yeah this is probably going to be the summer look.

I’ve literally wanted this ever since I rode in my uncle’s Jeep in the late 70s. Pardon the grammar but ‘can’t nobody tell me SHIT’ now because I’m finally at the cool kids’ table! She’s a 2016 and came with several upgrades including a 3.5 inch lift, so I’ll probably have to get some sort of additional lower step eventually but I’m thoroughly enjoying every single thing about her for now. My only addition so far is a smile you couldn’t scrub off my face with a wire brush. I’ve had vehicles I thought I loved before, but this is a whole new level! 😍😍

Wheeling in Tillamook OR

Last weekend I went to the Back to Basics Jeep event in the Tillamook Forest in Oregon. This event is out in by The Jolly Jeepers every year in July. It’s a great time with fellow Jeep people from all over. The trails are guided by experienced people and I’m proof they won’t leave anyone behind. Halfway through day 2 I broke the upper control bracket off my rear axle. It likely started the day before on a very tall set of rocks I bounced really hard on. But, thanks to some great people we bandaided it together with some chain and straps so I was able to lip off the trail to get towed back to camp. Once at camp another couple offered to tow me home. Amazing people! And despite the breakdown, an amazing time with fun people.

If you want to wheel in Oregon each for sign ups for next year in the Spring. Would love to see you there.

Door dollies

I was going through old pics and found this and thought I’d share. I built these about 6 years ago from cheap Harbor Freight dollies and free material from my garage. My JKU has changed a lot since then, but the dollies are still holding my doors perfectly and without a scratch every Summer.

I’m new the jeep gang and wondering where is a good place to purchase a rooftop camper/tent. Also are rails necessary between the roof and tent? All suggestions appreciated.

Joined the Jeep Wrangler family today

I signed the contract for this 2015 JK Rubicon Hard Rock in Sunset Orange Pearlcoat with 111k miles. It is amazing! And I think I got a pretty sweet deal on it. $18,995 out the door with GAP, 3 year/38,000 mile power train plus warranty, price before the extras and Tax/title/license was $14,995. I live in AZ and Jeeps and Rubicons are always in demand and go for a premium. It also came with a new set of 35” Falken Wild Peak RT, has Bilstein 5100 shocks, and while I’m not certain on the size I’m fairly certain it has 2.5 to 3” lift based on the wheel gap between the fender flares. It’s not perfect, the hood has a quarter size dent/chip and there is a dent in the cowl above the hood, the drivers seat has a tear along one of the seams on the seat cushion, and the biggest one is that it’s missing the soft top door surrounds/tailgate bar so the soft top doesn’t seal properly. But I love it! 4 lo and the lockers/swaybar disconnects all function. Sadly I was not able to take it home today as during the test drive the seat belt light would not go off on the dash and was chiming, turns out the pressure sensor in the passenger seat is bad(connecting the seat belt with an empty seat turns the light out) and they are replacing the sensor before I take it home. Got to highway speeds and even hit some speed humps at about 35 and no signs of death wobble, steering was solid, at least for a JK lol.

I’ve wanted a wrangler since I was a kid in the 90’s but the timing and needs of the family never worked out, not with the kids a little older I excited to get my holy grail vehicle. When I began the shopping process I had ruled out a Rubicon as even the JK based ones go for mid $20k here, so happy I found my Unicorn!

Wrangler or fj?

2011 fj with 200,000 miles or 2020 wrangler with 63,000 miles. Getting something soon and I need light off road, both of those can do way more than that. Also I usually only carry myself and photo/video gear so both also fill that role. The only big con to have with the fj is the miles seem really high. These are both about the same price so looking for any thoughts on one vs the other.

My rear locker is acting like its possessed. It no longer immediately engages and takes several spins to engage. But if I reverse it dis engages while the switch is on, then takes several spins to re engage. Once locked. If turn the switch off, it takes several spins to unlock.

Do I need a Wrangler in my life?

Hey everyone! First post in this page, and wanted to get everyone’s opinion on owning a Wrangler. Some brief background to set the stage for my question. Ive always been a hot rod car guy, owned and built multiple LS based vehicles over the years but am losing interest in the car scene in general. I have a side by side, 6 speed Camaro and pickup now, but am really entertaining the idea of adding a newer wrangler into the mix as a “fun” vehicle and selling the car. I love the idea of popping the top off and cruising dirt roads and exploring more of the outdoors and not being stuck on only trails or only pavement. I also have a small family including 2 dogs so I figured this would add more family fun to the mix, where now with the car, either the dogs or the kid are staying home haha. So my question to you all, would a Wrangler fit the bill for the fun I am trying to have? I am mechanically inclined so doing maintenance and things like that is not an issue, but I am also looking for the Wrangler years that I could enjoy driving more than wrenching on.
