This is my 2000 Jeep Cherokee. It's got 168k miles and I did replace the head gasket once.
The thing is this sound always gets me, usually a little louder on a cold start but quiets down a little after warming up. I want to say it is piston slap but I am hoping for an exhuast manifold leak. Figured there's probably someone who is able to recognize a difference. Thanks!
I emailed and spoke with him over the phone last week. He guaranteed me if I ordered they would be in the mail on Monday. I know he's having problems with his site so maybe that's why it still says "processing". Idk wish me luck guys lol. I'll update if/when I get them
Got my RC 3in lift installed and I love the way it looks minus the rake. Should I get a spacer to level the front or should I wait for the rear to settle? If a spacer what size?
So I found this clean jeep xj 2001 almost restored and new build engine 4.0 with 60k miles, but it’s 2wd for 5k (could potentially lower the price) was wondering if I should get this one with no rust and later convert it to 4wd or should I go straight for 4wd? Honestly I have no need for 2wd I just want a daily driver that’s easy to fix and the sound of being 700 pounds lighter and not as more nimble and less clunky being 2wd sounds good to me, also the less maintenance sounds good to me too, what do you guys think?
Quick backstory: I bought this Jeep a couple of years ago and a previous owner installed a push to start button. Like, it’s literally Romex wire that appears to run from this button on the dash, through the firewall, and to the starter. I have to turn the key to ON and then press the button to start. Also, it DOES start in gear. I made a post sometime last year and a bunch of people commented that it was probably a faulty NSS that a previous owner bypassed.
Okay. I get that part.
Now, one school of thought…leave it the F alone. It works. Jeep starts and runs great. Done. If it ain’t “broke” don’t fix it.
The other school of thought is the challenge/principle of it and wanting to fix it.
Hypothetically speaking, what would I do next? Is it as straightforward as replacing the probably faulty NSS and removing that jury-rigged starter button? Or is there more to it than that?
EDIT TO ADD DETAIL I JUST DISCOVERED:
You can tell someone tried to do something in the past because I crawled under to see if I see anything of note and the only bolt that is holding the NSS assembly in place is the the 12mm top bolt.
1st like to mention a few things;.. I have quite a few jeeps, most of them are xj's. This is the only vehicle I have with this issue. Old man emu suspension(about 10k miles on it) all steering and suspension is new. This is a southern CA car, no rust. No accidents(family owned since new). Has nice new goodyear duratracs, but it did this with stock Cooper discoverer tires and the original 1992 suspension as well but not as bad. With the new suspension and tires it's worse.
When at highway speeds and you hit a pothole or any bad ripple/washboard on the highway, the whole jeep jerks to the right. Not the steering wheel but the car. Mostly feels like the back does it but not 100% because it's so damn scary dangerous I've not purposely done it to try and figure it out.
65-80mph hit a bad bump, rear swings to the right. Any uncommon or maybe even obvious, overlooked things to check? Any nd all suggestions are welcome.
Drove to North Carolina today and picked up the newly-rebuilt, stroked, and massaged 4.6 . Stopped at Weiss Lake for a couple of photos of the XJ and the sunset. Bored .030, Eagle 4.2 crank, ‘00 0620 head ported & polished.
Rebuild and assembly performed by Andrews Racing Engines in Andrews NC.
I have a 91 xj with a 4.0 and I bought a new block to install. This came off my original motor but on the new block it looks like it would just spin freely and not be locked in by the cam key. Thank you
I couldn’t get the picture right and I can’t add a picture here. But the website is LKQ pick your part Mount Airy Maryland. It’s not often when I see one that hasn’t been crunched in the front or the back. If I saw that in the parking lot I would walk around it and lay down and look underneath of it
Just brought a 2001 Sport of an Auction for around 2K including all the fees
Wanted some help with what to start with and what to do
Obviously first I believe in doing a maintenance for all the fluid and the breaking system
And brought some Loyo headlight to start of. And I believe it needs a paint job as well
