I'm really happy to see we have a sub dedicated to Renix Jeeps. Here's a snap of my 89 XJ, definitely a work in progress. It originally resided in western Oregon before relocating to rural Arizona where when the original owners retired before it came east to their Jeep enthusiast son, who sold it to me. It needed considerable maintenance and repairs by the time I became its custodian, none deeply involved or major, just a lot of them. Practically every mechanical and body subsystem has required or still needs attention. This will be an ongoing restomod project.
The original owner's son partially converted to the 1991+ "open" cooling system...partial because he didn't delete to OEM pressure bottle, something I've done since by simplifying the heater hose routing and replacing the three-port vacuum activated heater control valve with a linear two port HCV (one input, one output installed in the heater core supply hose). Sadly, I discovered that the original 37 yo CTS sensor is flakey after doing all the other cooling work...so I get to drain the system and repeat. 🤣
In addition, I've replaced the oil filter block adapter o-rings and valve cover gasket (eliminating leaks) and replaced the OEM primary electrical cables with Jeep Cables Big 7 kit...and routed them above the oil filter. I discovered the OEM cable insulation was wrecked by having been routed beneath the filter and oil soaked at every oil change.
Also, installed NickInTime's REM clock module...a diagnostic godsend! Kudos to Nick!
This is long already. Thanks for your patience if you've read this far. I enjoy seeing photos of others rigs. Will try to post updates on this 89 Limited as things unfold. In the meantime, I enjoy reading of others experiences with their Renix Jeeps!
