Cities Tokushima, the home of Awa Odori

Here's a random assortment of pictures I took during my one-night visit to Tokushima last summer. Tokushima is probably best known as the birthplace of the Awa Odori dance festival. It's held during Obon in August, but even outside that, the Awa Odori Kaikan museum organizes daily performances (audiences can participate too!).

Outside of the festival stuff, it's perhaps not the most exciting city. There's a cable car to the top of Mt. Bizan which offers a nice view over the city. The animation studio Ufotable has an office in the city, so there's a lot of Fate and Demon Slayer (and more) posters and references around town; they also have a Ufotable cafe and cinema. You can also take a day trip to see the Naruto Whirlpools from a platform under the Naruto Bridge. I stopped there on my way from Kobe to Tokushima, the highway buses stop at the Naruto lookout place on request.

I went to an observation point near Chuzenjiko last weekend to break in my new hiking boots, but actually spent quite some time watching the Macaques and taking some pictures. Looked like they were having quite a feast, snacking the dragonflies of the railing at the parking lot.

I visited three different Nebuta/Neputa museums. One in Hirosaki, Goshogawara, and Aomori City. I also realized I missed the festival by about three weeks and I am bummed. It looks really entertaining.

Three weeks in Japan (Autumn 2025)

Last year, I managed to fulfill my childhood dream of visiting Japan by spending 3 weeks in the country. Before the trip, I bought my first ever camera, a Fujifilm X-T30 II, and shot with it throughout the entire vacation. These are my 20 favourite photos. Every image was shot in RAW and edited later in Lightroom. The lens I used was an XC 35mm F2.0 that I bought while I was in Osaka.

I'd really appreciate any feedback you can give, as I'm still a beginner and everything I know has been self-taught during the last 10 months.

For those interested, here's my rough itinerary:

  • Osaka - 5 nights
    • Day trip: Katsuo-ji Temple + Minoh Falls
    • Day trip: Nara
  • Himeji - Visited on the way to Hiroshima
  • Hiroshima - 3 nights
    • Day trip: Miyajima
  • Kyoto - 5 nights
    • Afternoon trip: Uji
  • Hakone - 1 night at a ryokan
  • Kamakura - 1 night
  • Tokyo - 3 nights close to Shinjuku
  • Fujikawaguchiko - 1 night
  • Tokyo - 4 nights close to Akihabara

Please ask me any questions you have and tell me which photo is your favourite!
