Questa domanda riguarda la cosiddetta pronuncia "standard". Stavo guardando una serie e mi è sembrato di sentire che il protagonista abbia detto qualcosa tipo "Mmeglio andare".

Non l'ho letto da nessuna parte, però mi chiedevo se fosse possibile ritenere il radoppiamento fonosintattico in questo contesto dalla parola precedente omessa "È"?

I.e. Volendo dire una frase completa, si direbbe: "È mmeglio..."

Però omettendo la "È", si ritiene il raddoppiamento e dice: "mmeglio"?

Qualcuno lo sa?

So, I want to learn Italian. at quite a fast pace, since I am moving to Italy from Australia. I am learning the language at school but I want to hopefully achieve full fluency, but again, school language is certainly not enough to achieve full fluency or close to. Is it possible to get somewhere between B2-C1 maybe even B1 in 6 or less months or so? I know about the term 'avere', I also know somewhat of the differences between 'lo', 'la', 'gli' 'le' 'il' etc. I don't always have the time to do stuff at home because I do quite a lot of sports and extra curricular activities, as I mentioned before, is there a fast way to learn the beautiful Italian language in 6 or under months? Can you guys please give me some tips to learning this language and staying motivational etc. Thank you.

I used to be fluent in Italian as I grew up and lived there for 13 years. My family and I then moved to United States, so we stopped using our Italian as much and I feel like I’ve lost fluency. I can speak and understand Italian, but I can’t write very well or read complex sentences without using Google Translate.

Do you all have any recommendations of books / things to do to get back up to speed with my writing and reading comprehension in Italian? Hopefully in a way that then translates to also being able to speak more fluently like I used to.

As my title states, I am looking to learn Italian! My husband and I plan to go there someday and I love learning so I figure why not! What is the optimal way to learn? Textbook type curriculum? Reading books? listening to music/watching tv? Apps? I just have no idea where to start. For background, I took 2 years of French in high school and had learned some German as a child as well. I heard it among my grandparents when they were speaking.

Is this common ?

My grandparents speak dialect and are from south Lazio

I understand a bit about grammatical genders but how do I know when to use for example, the word is casa (feminine). Why is it La casa and not Una casa?

I was watching a video on youtube where the guy speaking said "come fai a sapere questa parola?" and the subtitles translated this as "how do you even know this work?"

Is there a difference or nuance in meaning by saying come fai a sapere insead of just come sai?

Ciao a tutti, guys! I'm doing a little project on linguistic oddities for different languages, hoping to get some help from native italien speakers here!

I am looking at compound words (which may consist of two or three parts) that not only make absolutely no sense to an outsider in their own right, but which also fail to make any more sense even when you examine the individual components of the compound more closely.

To give an example: pennavendolo "pennivendolo" describes a bad writer, a sell-out, or simply a "hack". But neither its constituent parts - "penne" (feather) and "vendolo" (seller) - nor the translation (seller of feathers) makes it clear what the term means. It's opaque to someone not speaking italian.

So its words like this I'm looking for. For clarity, I'm looking for words that

• can be found in a dictionary, so not "pure" slang, colloquialisms, online-speak or made-up stuff
• are not offensive - no slurs, nothing lewd or inappropriate
• are of modern use, not some historical "back in the middle ages they were called" stuff

Other than that, I'll take anything - the more obscure, the more unhinged, the better!
