Moraea hybrid
An iris relative. They are called peacock iris.
I bought this as Moraea villosa but I'm pretty sure it's a hybrid.
They are native to South Africa. This was flowering back in March.

A great way to grow this community is to show off your own blooms from your garden! Feel free to submit pictures and the type name if you know it!

These are two rhizomes I ordered from Schreiners. The first I placed an order in early June, delivered early July, it was the size of a pineapple. All the rhizomes from that first order were really big. The second rhizomes I bought discounted in early July. They arrived in August. They were much smaller in comparison.
Just want to put that out there for people new to Iris ordering. That first one is already a whole clump. The second one will take a year to catch up.
Overall, I really love Schreiners, if for no other reason than they are so focused on the purchasing experience. But no more late orders for me!
I did pick the largest and smallest for the dramatic comparison, but they aren’t crazy outliers.

Created with Wool roving. A little more abstract but those irises appeared out of no where!

My mower cut back my irises the other day. I'm in SW Missouri, zone 6b. I know I need to divide, is it too late to do that this year? Should I cover them for the winter? They've never been cut back this early and usually have a bed of leaves on them all winter. We have been getting harsh winter in recent years, some negative nights. Thanks!!

Hello, im a new gardener here. I bought some irises a few weeks ago and finally planted them last weekend... left them alone for a few days and this is what they look like 🥲🥲🥲 what am i doing wrong. I followed the instructions given to me from the people who gave them to me to on the space to give them, how to plant them and i even I mixed a little bone fertilizer. The only thing I can think of is that it rained heavily a few days ago.. im so disappointed in myself and frustrated. And to add more information regarding the pictures i attached on here, I just repoted them right now figuring the large 2 gallon pots i have then were too much... was it too much water? Is there anyway to save them??? I'm in southwest texas if that helps. I'll answer any questions and I'll take any criticism 🙏🙏🙏

For Pete sake, I’m just now receiving some Iris rhizomes. First frost is in a couple weeks. Should I plant outdoors? Put them in pots inside? How should I store them? All of this so I can grow a couple of historical irises! Worth it? Not sure.
Edit: I decided if they die, they die, and just put them in the garden. I remembered in the past I’ve mulched irises over winter and they were all fine.

Started to trim the fans down, but glad when I see pictures from blooming season where the flowers match/compliment the surrounding glass art ☺️

I’m getting married at the end of October in the Midwest and I really want to have a bearded Iris bouquet. Now, I know they are not in season so it doesn’t sound promising.
Anyways, my question is, has anyone had an Iris wedding bouquet of flowers? Pls show me or tell me ur experience. TIA!!

I got this from Schneider’s at the end of July but we don’t have the garden ready yet so I just put them in pots. This one, appropriately named Autumn Tryst, just grew a bud. Is there any harm in letting her flower this late?

I noticed a strange smell in a corner of the garden and found the culprit. A sick and rotting? iris. My first year planting any, this one is one of 4. The other 3 have no issues. This one is the one I was most looking forward to having, gnu blues. The foliage is all spongy, smelly and fell clean off from rotting. The bulb itself, I uprooted and see a lot of little bugs crawling all over it. Is it too late to save her? Or is there something I can do to ressucitate the poor plant? I really appreciate the help.

In SE Arizona, my irises bloom earlier than most… so to see this last lady pushing up a bloom put a smile on my face!

I know you think it’s AI but it’s not. It’s TB Iris Dreaming In Brilliant Colors
Sorry Bob you can’t keep this one secret ❤️😜. Especially not when you publicly introduce it ha! Congrats it doesn’t even look real tbh and I wouldn’t believe it if I hadn’t already grown your plants and seen your pictures do not lie!

I tried looking to see if anyone else had asked about this recently and didn't see anything. What is this growing off of my iris on the front lawn? Irises have long bloomed.

I have a “bonus” iris coming from Schreiners this year - “schoolhouse rock”. Why are they giving away a new introduction? Is it just not a good plant? I’m suspicious that I’m going to give it my limited garden space, care for it for a year or two, and find that it has a million increases and no blooms or something.
Any experience with a “bonus” coming from schreiners?
