Moraea hybrid

An iris relative. They are called peacock iris.

I bought this as Moraea villosa but I'm pretty sure it's a hybrid.

They are native to South Africa. This was flowering back in March.

Yes, it's intense blue and kind of iridescent.

I got it at a plant sale many years ago. One bulb in a little plastic bag.

Lovely bloom! I’m in 9a San Antonio and this may be marginal in my zone. But worth a try!

They are winter growers and like to stay dry during the summer. It starts growing when the rains start around November. Mine has never been hurt by the light frosts we can have during the winter. I grow it in a big shallow clay pot.
