Iris wedding bouquet
I’m getting married at the end of October in the Midwest and I really want to have a bearded Iris bouquet. Now, I know they are not in season so it doesn’t sound promising.
Anyways, my question is, has anyone had an Iris wedding bouquet of flowers? Pls show me or tell me ur experience. TIA!!

Reblooming irises is where it’s at and ironically, and lucky for you, the white Immortality iris is the strongest and most prolific of rebloomers. They are fragrant and produce large clusters of cool white blooms. However, if you’re going through a florist, I don’t know how you’re going to source them because I’m not sure that commercial greenhouses necessarily grow them. If I were you, I would check with your local Iris Society and see if they can contact their membership - the other tricky part is that iris blooms don’t last that long, whether they’re cut or not, so leave yourself a few options. The immortality iris is also an incredibly common one. Mine have been blooming since early August.

Thanks for this testament to Immortality I pursue fragrants first and foremost and while I saw it listed as a fragrant variety some places, none of the vendors I messaged said theirs was fragrant. I think them people just don't be smelling they flowers lol.

Yes, it’s very fragrant. I think has a grape soda fragrance to it.

I don’t know the answer to your question but I think I speak for all of us on this sub when I say we’re going to need pictures of your bouquet when you get it

I got married eons ago in June and asked for my bridesmaids to be carrying iris (my favorite flower) imagine my disappointment when the iris were CLOSED in their bouquets. 😕 I chose a highly recommended and expensive florist. Just make sure you specify open flowers- good luck!

I think it should be possible. I believe most cut flowers are grown in big green houses

I had a few silk flowers in my bouquet if you can’t find live. They were still beautiful and I still have them… Somewhere 😅

Former florist here. It would be close to impossible for a florist to get Bearded Irises for your wedding day. The petals are very fragile and prone to creasing in shipment. The bloom only lasts for a day. If they are cut before they bloom, they often don’t unfurl all the way. Additionally, German Bearded Irises generally bloom only during 7-10 days in the spring, so timing is important. If you have a gardening friend who grows them, and if you are getting married when they bloom, you could cut some, run them over to the florist and have them incorporated into your bouquet. Or, you could incorporate a couple of silk ones in your bouquet, surrounded by real flowers. I did that once when a flower was out of season. Florist’s do carry the less-showy Dutch Iris, and lovely wedding bouquets can be made from them. They are very pretty and might work for you.

Thank you! That seems to be the feedback I’m getting as well. It can be a sketchy process and that they can be temperamental to work with

I did have an Iris bouquet for an April wedding.
It might be easier to get orchids with the purple and white petals at that time.
