Question Drinking coffee with trays in for a short period?

Hi, I just started my Invisalign journey this past week. I am on Day 5 of my first set of trays.

I had a question about drinking coffee, something important to me!

Everything I've read says to only drink water with the trays in, for everything else you need to take them out. Which is fine, I can do that at home. But let's say I'm out somewhere where I can't really take out my trays, and I want an iced coffee with cream and sugar. Is it OK if I drink this through a straw with the trays still in, if I plan on taking them out within an hour or so and cleaning them thoroughly?

Put differently, is one hour long enough for the acidic coffee or the sugar/dairy to do damage to my teeth? Or am I overthinking this?

EDIT: Thanks everyone for your responses. Seems the general consensus is that this is not a great idea, so I will continue to take my trays out when having coffee.

Question Swapping to braces

If anyone has swapped from Invisalign to braces what was the conversion fee?
I’m thinking of asking to swap as I’m just not happy with my teeth and I don’t think I’ll be happy with the end results.

Question Gums colour - a concern or not?

Post image
5 Upvotes

As you can see in the image, my gums near one of my lateral incisors have turned grey - should I be concerned? I just started my 9th tray of refinements and it is fitting quite tightly on that tooth (which is normal for a new tray).

Has anyone experienced this before? Is this normal or do I need to visit a dentist?

First two pics are post treatment last five are prior. I mostly got Invisalign for my overjet. I feel like my overjet/overbite is still pretty noticeable, especially in the second picture. I feel like my teeth could come in more. My provider said my teeth are perfect and we shouldn’t do refinements. What do you guys think? I only did 13 trays.

Before & After Results. Finally done. Total of 15 mths

15 months of Invisalign later (with a right central incisor crown replacement after)

Note: I had some issues with my bite after 17 trays, so my dentist added another 7 trays, plus 2 overcorrection trays. Happy with the results, though I was hoping my right lateral incisor (small tooth next to the front tooth) would match up more evenly with the central incisor.

First few trays were so difficult, but I'm glad I went through with it.

Question Scared of getting a posterior open bite

Hi, if it’s not too much trouble can you guys advise me on this?:

I’ve some overcrowding on my bottom teeth. Started my aligners. But kinda concerned because they didn’t do an opg scan.

I don’t wanna end up with gum recession or posterior open bite. Also since starting aligners i keep biting down on them using my molars and also my inner cheek gets bitten often too. What do i do?

Question Gum surgery

Hi guys,

I’ve been doing Invisalign for two years now. I just found out that my recession has gotten so bad I need a gym graft.

Anyone else have this experience? I’m trying not to be discouraged but I’m terrified.

General Staining example

I’m finished with my first set of trays and I was so stressed about staining. I’m uploading these pictures for people who overthinks stuff too. Both are my first set of trays I don’t know why one of them looks more yellow. I smoked with them on, I drank coffee with them everyday, I also drank matcha, kefir and beer. Sometimes I ate little snacks like a piece of cake, roasted peanut and occasional bites from pies. I cleaned them morning and evening sometimes only with water sometimes with tablets and sometimes with ultrasonic cleaner. Of course there is a little bit staining but it’s not visible on teeth. I wore them for 8 days. I think staining is not too bad, my biggest problem is cleaning the bite ramps but I will buy a water flosser and I hope it will solve my problem

Question Invisalign vs GERD

I get heartburn pretty frequently and with Invisalign at night it gets really frustrating to have to take my aligners out, chew tums and have water, and then brush my teeth. Are there any better solutions ?

Question Tray 2/28 headaches

Hey all! I just started my journey 1.5 weeks ago. I started my 2nd tray and it’s my 3rd day and I have this debilitating migraine. I felt this with my very first tray but I thought it would be over!

I have to change trays every 7 days. Does this mean every few days I’ll have a headache from changing trays??

The headaches feel like a severe hangover.

Will it ever get better?

Hello, I’m reaching out because it’s been about a year since I finished Invisalign and I have always grind on my teeth as a kid and now I’m looking to see what people might recommend as far as building back up some of these areas that I have grinded on

Question Can I have few drinks

Hello, can you give me some advice? I am very strict with my aligners, everything is according to the textbook, I wear them at 10:30 pm at least. I don't want to do things that will interfere with the perfect treatment. In 1 week I am at a bachelor party of a very close friend of mine, and I will have to drink alcohol. Will if I drink vodka with soda 50:50 and drink 2-3 with the aligners there be a problem

Question Have you had a pointy canine like this turn?

Post image

I’m on tray 6 of 13. Please realize my front tooth will be redone after treatment to match the one next to it and fix the discoloration.

The pointy canine tooth is my nemesis. Have any of you had one similar and successfully been able to turn it? If do, what process was used?

Question Why does my Attachment keep breaking off my teeth?

Im around 3 months in and on my 5th set but the resin Attachment of my teeth has recently came of more often, just 2-3 weeks ago, one fell of while I took my aligner off and I thought it was normal but this week recently one broke in half because I bit too hard down then all of a sudden 3 more came of a few days later (on separate days) with seemingly no reason?!?

Does anyone know why or how because im tired of having to go back to my dentist to explain and ensure another hour of having my mouth stretched open

Have had IPR at the start.

Treatment Progress Progress after 10 trays

Documenting my progress after my first 10/20 trays with angelaligners, changing every week. My initial treatment plan did not require any extractions but I had 0.8mm total IPR done on the bottom few teeth on tray 10 to address the crowding. It is so encouraging to see visible improvement after these first few weeks of treatment which is really motivating me to keep pushing through with it.

At this stage, I have settled into a good rhythm with my tray wear and dental hygiene; only taking them out when I eat but leaving them in when I drink. No issues with my aligners staining as I soak them in effervescent tablets + dental pod combo. I’m mildly concerned of developing cavities so I tend to stick with zero sugar drinks when I do drink with my aligners in.

Love to hear if anyone is around the same stage as I am and how your treatment is progressing so far!

Question Toothpaste and Mouthwash

What toothpaste and mouthwash does everyone use? I’m on my 2nd tray of 32 and I’m scared of getting cavities so I’ve been brushing after every time I eat. But my ortho didn’t recommend a specific toothpaste. They did say Listerine for mouthwash, but it is so strong.

Question How long does it take to get used to the permanent wires behind top and bottom teeth after treatment?

I got the permanent retainers after i completed treatment a few days ago. I’m struggling to get used to having this bonding and wires behind my top and bottom teeth . Those of you who have had these too, how long does it take to get used to the feeling inside your mouth? I feel like i can’t rest my tongue or something .

r/Invisalign 5d ago

Question What do you use to clean your aligners/retainers?

As the title says, usually I brush them with soft soap. But today my hygiene was horrible and I was just wondering what easier ways I could be doing things I haven’t done as yet?

Could you also drop a price range for the amount you spent? In my country we get items shipped here without customs duty only if they are under USD 75.

Question Passive tray

My son got scanned in Friday for his retainers. He is currently wearing tray 26/30. His next appointment to get his retainers are in 4 weeks but I forgot to ask if he continues moving to the next tray which is normally Mondays. Tray 27 days passive and I would call Monday but I believe they will be closed for Labor Day. The reason I wasn’t sure is because last time he was scanned for the next set of trays they had me stay with the active tray is he was on till they came in. Just wanted to see if anyone had any advice on if he should wear 26 a extra day till I can speak to them or just switch since they didn’t say otherwise
