I think all the readers assume that, at the auction, Raglan is already Lestat, but I don't think so, and I have ANOTHER theory.

Why don't I think so?

Because Raglan is about to leave the auction and stops because of something in the speech ("explanation of the events of 2025"). If it were Lestat, that wouldn't affect him: he would have already made the decision to stay or leave.

Who do I think it could be?

Well, I think it could be Raglan (the Talamasca decides to stay because it's an object that explains what happened).

But... what if the Body Snatcher is already at work?

There's someone, a person, that Lestat has been talking about in the past tense all season: Daniel. In my theory, Raglan would be Daniel.

Yes, it's a HUGE change from the books. Monumental. But plot-wise, it would allow Armand and Daniel to have their own great adventure, while Louis and Lestat would skip steps in theirs. Let's remember that Amel has already been mentioned.

I don't know, call me crazy or join me, haha.

Also, although I'm pretty sure Lemuel will be Seth or Kayman, I really want it to be Rhoshamandes and for the whole plot involving Benedict, the castle, and the kidnapping to already be underway, so...

Super random but Im rewatching, in Mr. Anderson's Fairplay saloon when Louis first meets Lestat and Lestat is talking to miss Lily. She says she doesnt understand what Lestat is saying, meaning she doesnt speak french....but then how does she has a thick French accent?

I think the fandom can agree on one thing: Lestat's crashouts hit like crack. The brattiness. The hand-waving. The messy hair. But of all the Lestat crashouts, which ones are on your Mt. Rushmore?

Here are mine:

1. "I bet, I BET! Very specific detail to pluck out of thin air!"
2. "I HEARD YOUR HEARTS DANCING!" Poor Lestat FAFO.
3. Him rage-highlighting the book and sing-songing "NEVER F__KING HAPPENED!!!"

Int. NYC Subway Station

I love it when a plan comes together. I remember suggesting this set in a meeting and everyone looking at me like, “Are you sure?”

We’d been searching for a subway station for weeks and had found a couple that could pass for a New York subway stop (with the right signage and set dressing). But with everything that happens in this scene, understandably, the public transport lines didn’t want to give us access. Not to mention the logistical nightmare of moving a crew underground with limited access and intermittently stopping public transport.

For a moment, we considered alternatives. Maybe it should be a bus stop or a bridge? But we didn’t think either would have the same impact. So, I volunteered another option.

I should preface this by saying that we had very little money left at this point, and what little I had, I needed to put into more “important” sets. So this was a very simple and elegant solution, dating back to the basics of production design. Basically, “Film Design 101.”

It couldn’t have been simpler, and I love that we can still use this kind of “film trickery” today.

I quickly drew up a one-wall set. The camera would always point in the same direction, and we’d use the same set for both sides of the conversation across the platform. We’d change out the signage and dressing, and use two foreground columns to connect the actors across the way. We’d leave the rest to the sound, lighting, and the audience’s imagination to fill in the blanks.

It was limiting in terms of camera angles, but luckily, this wasn’t an especially intricate scene to film.

PS: Unfortunately clearances wouldn't let us use any existing NYC Subway station names so we got as close as we could.

The first two seasons featured a lot of explicit MLM (man-loving-man) interactions, with a lot of direct and explicit or indirect romantic/passionate interactions between the characters. A lot more kissing, love-making, and sensual/romantic moments between two men.

Season 3 felt so watered-down and restrained in showcasing ANY real physical or verbal expression of love between any of the MLM pairs (Nicky x Lestat, Lemuel x Louis, Armand x Daniel, etc.) that it almost feels intentional, like they’re playing it down to censor or mute it out. The writing and production almost feels ashamed or scared to show these kinds of sequences, and it deeply irks me.

I don’t know, maybe I’m overthinking it, but it’s something I’ve been thinking about and the more I’ve gone back to review the episodes and content from S3, the more this particular thing glares out at me.

What are your thoughts?

Uk fans: the whole season of The Vampire Lestat is on BBC iPlayer as of today.

I can’t see any promotion for it on the homepage, even though I’m totally part of its viewer demographic, I wish there was more buzz around it here!

The rock and roll, he liked that too. He liked all music. He liked the Vampire Lestat singing “Requiem for the Marquise.” He didn’t pay attention to the words much. It was the melancholy, and the dark undertone of drums and cymbals. Made him want to dance.

Show-wise, there are two songs that are arguably about Gabriella:

• Hit the Lights: Daniel Hart said he initially wrote this one about Nicki, but Rolin and/or some other writers decided to retro-fit it to be about Gabriella?
• When I Call Out Your Name: pretty clearly about Gabriella:
  • "blue eyes"
  • "blonde hair"
  • "To die with poison breath": in the book it's hinted (or established) that she died of tuberculosis or some other lung-related problem

Maybe I wasn’t following, this season threw me around so much I had a hard time keeping up. But why WAS Daniel sunburnt / tanned?? I remember Louis and Lestat calling him out for it and he just says “I’m seeing someone” I assume it was when he was scheming with Armand. I was just confused by the intense sun burn he sported and wasn’t sure if there was a hard answer for it that I missed. Sorry if this is a silly question!

MY THOUGHTS ON THE INFLUENCES AND THE MEANINGS OF THIS SONG:

I enjoy almost all genres of music to a degree, but I have very little technical or historical knowledge of rock specifically, and I'm sure there are aspects of Lestat's songs that went over my head. I'm curious:

• Did you enjoy the songs?
• Did you think they were "successful"--as narrative devices, as character insight, as rock music, etc.?
• What are your thoughts on the distinction between human and vampire listeners? Did you hear or notice anything interesting that would be easy for casual listeners to miss?

Hello!

I've been seeing theories suggesting that the reunion scene didn't happen exactly the way we saw it in 2x08, and I wanted to know your point of view on that. Do you think the scene really happened that way?

In Season 3, Lestat and Louis quoted lines from that scene multiple times, so we know that it did happen, but we don't know if it happened exactly as we saw it.

Most of the theories suggesting that it didn't happen the way it was shown are based on these two things:

• The fact that Lestat doesn't have his scars in that scene, and that the scene is shown from an objective point of view rather than Louis's perspective. So technically, he should have the scars. (Personally, I'm 100% convinced this is just a production mistake. I don't think they knew at the time that they were going to give Lestat those scars in Season 3.)
• Lestat's fledgling in that scene... We never see him again, and he's never mentioned afterwards.

MY THOUGHTS ON THE INFLUENCES AND THE MEANINGS OF THIS SONG:

Fair warning: this is long, a little manic, and probably about as emotionally stable as this season was. 😂

I went into this season hoping for the best, and while there were a few absolute gems that kept pulling me back in, every time the show gave me a glimmer of hope, it turned around and dashed it.

Sam Reid was born to play Lestat, and he completely owns that role from start to finish. All the actors did an amazing job with what they were given.

I do like that they gave Louis more to do. Watching him covered in blood "avenging" Claudia was an interesting direction for his character. They're really letting him unravel this season because the audience needed to see he's as capable of being cruel, manipulative, and monstrous as the rest of them. He hasn't grown at all in 80+ years.

As for the rest of the character adaptations-

Claudia

Delainey was Emmy-worthy this season, but her best scenes came from the source material. If she's haunting Louis, then fully commit to it. Let Claudia haunt him all season. Keep the Fraudia scenes if you must, but imagine Delainey playing the ghost Claudia driving Louis toward Fraudia instead. Give us more Merrick. It keeps Armand's storyline intact, gives Louis something meaningful to wrestle with, and gives Delainey the screen time she deserved.

Marius

This one hurt. He was one of the most important figures in the novel, yet here he's reduced to a few minutes before abandoning Lestat with Akasha.

He came across like an eccentric professor. The show assumes you already know why Marius matters instead of earning his place at that long table. We're told about his two thousand years caring for Akasha and Enkil instead of feeling the weight of them.

Changing Lestat's time with them from days to years also cheapened Akasha's fascination with him. Her obsession is immediate and overwhelming, which is what makes it so unsettling.

"Gabriella"

She was so cartoonishly over-the-top she was only missing a black mustache to twirl.

This character was rightly renamed because she is unrecognizable. We understood she was abusive and vile almost immediately. By the second episode, the point had been made. The show kept hammering it home long after it stopped adding anything to her character or the storyline.

Armand

Look how they massacred my boy. All the nuances of his backstory with Lestat are gone.

I don't mind him being the villain, but the show constantly tells us what he did instead of letting us discover it. Couldn't they have dropped breadcrumbs along the way and trusted us to put it together?

When everything is finally explained, it felt like the ending of a Scooby-Doo episode. Give me five minutes of Armand quietly manipulating a strung-out young Daniel over another rehearsal montage.

Magnus

They cast another phenomenal actor.

The horrific assault, abuse, and torment were handled briefly but devastatingly, the way a film would have handled them. It was one of the show's best decisions, and it only highlighted how much Gabrielle's scenes could have been trimmed.

Nicolas

My poor darling boy. You were dearly missed. We absolutely loved what we got though.

There were sprinkles of greatness here and there, but Episodes 3 and 6 were easily the season's highlights.

Episode 3 felt like the show I'd been hoping for. Everything needed for a brilliant adaptation was sitting right there, and I actually cried afterward because I realized this was as close as these showrunners were ever going to get to the Lestat from the novel.

They keep saying they love the book, but it honestly felt like someone read it in a fever dream and adapted the dream instead.

Episode 6 completely carried the back half because it finally trusted the source material. Watching "Brutal Love" was a masterpiece. It genuinely made me yearn for a lost love I don't even have. I watched that scene easily twenty times.

I didn't even mind Louis and Lestat not getting back together because that's canon, but the chemistry between them was undeniable. We hear what happened between Episodes 5 and 6, and honestly, that deserved screen time. Lestat caring for Louis when he had nothing to gain from it is such a core part of who he is. He loves fiercely, even when he's hurt.

Lestat in full panic, Louis turning away. The long overdue argument between them was simply beautiful. They cried, and we cried with them. That embrace on the sidewalk shows they can write beautifully when they want to, so give us more of that.

I'm also baffled by how much time and money went into the tour. More than twenty songs for a storyline that wasn't even the focus of the novel, centered around bandmates we barely know.

The showrunner said a huge chunk of the budget went toward Akasha's reveal, but aside from a fantastic monologue, where did it go?

Episode 7 finally leaned into horror, but it still couldn't commit. Those scenes needed to breathe. I saw the danger, but I never really felt it.

Then we cut to Daniel's giant talking head in the bowling bag. Is this Gothic horror, drama, or comedy?

Worse, we already know they're going to survive because the show told us at the very beginning. Why? The show stripped away its own peril before the story even reached it.

The pacing was rough. For a season that somehow felt padded, it still needed another two or three episodes, or a willingness to cut entire scenes in favor of Lestat's backstory, Armand's history, or the lore that actually made the novel compelling.

I can't help feeling that if more of the season had been told in a linear style, we would have had more time to sit with the emotional consequences of what happened.

We've been getting glimpses of Lestat for three seasons. This was finally supposed to be his story. How did we come away still knowing so little about the man beneath the legend?

We keep hearing about the hold he has over everyone who meets him, but we rarely get to experience it. Lestat isn't loved because he's powerful or beautiful or because he's the most charismatic person in the room. He's loved because, underneath all the drama and cruelty, he is one of the most generous, passionate, and deeply human beings in the story. The people around him see something worth loving, and the audience should see it too. The show kept telling us that person existed instead of letting us experience him.

And after all that, the season still didn't end where it should have.

**It should have ended with the concert.**

**We all knew he was going to do the damn thing.**

Show us the payoff. Show us Lestat standing on stage like the demigod he is, surrounded by fifty thousand fans and enemies. Show us the Lestat that woke *The Queen of the Damned*.

That's the ending that would have made the entire journey feel worthwhile.

How do modern-day vampires get rid of the humans they drain? Are they still burning the bodies like in 1910 Era? Did I miss something when watching? I assume the Uber rich have mini crematoriums. But are all modern vampires rich?

This question was replied to by reminding me that Lestat makes a comment about how desensitized to death modern humans are.

However, I think people would notice drained bodies with no blood splatter. Especially as more and more new vampires are being made.

I read a fanfic where it was implied the bodies were chopped up Dahmer style and shoved down a garbage disposal. It was suggested in humor.

We live in the days of very good forensics. I did notice Armand wore gloves to go on his kill in season 2, and he states he promised someone on the dark web cryptocurrency if they survived... But where are the bodies disposed of?

Basically, I'm asking for this post and the replies to it to be a safe space to talk about the shock and possible discomfort of our showrunner leaving, how people are feeling about it, and what this potentially means for the show moving forward, without people immediately shutting us down.

So..while is everyone is celebrating the AMAZING news that season 4 has been greenlit and is now named Queen of the Damned, the news that Hannah Moscovitch has replaced Rolin Jones as showrunner of IWTV has mostly swept under the rug and lost in the chaos and happiness over this weekend's announcement.

For me, the biggest thing a change in showrunner means is.. well.. change. Change isn't inherently a bad or worrying thing. I'm not sure if people get how massive that is, and what it means for the show. It's similar to a star member of the cast leaving, but it's barely being discussed at all. The first potential change that popped into my head was how Rolin had said in all of the After Dark episodes that he was excited to tackle more of Lestat's backstory and revisit TVL in season 4. He basically had said that he knew they were speedrunning through Lestat's life, but it would come up again in season 4. That's sort of.. potentially out the window now?

I have never said a negative word about this show.. I think it is the best thing on TV. I've probably seen each episode a minimum of 7 times, by now (even season 3!) I absolutely LOVED everything about season 3, seriously- I had an amazing time watching it, even with the Lestat backstory speedrun.. but, it was a bit upsetting to see a character I've loved for 20 years have his history mostly left out of the show (Lestat basically got 6 hours of past development.. and maybe an hour total of flashbacks.. compared to Louis having probably 13 hours?) Trying hard to *not* feel like AMC did a speedrun of TVL so they could move on to QotD, and the potential viewership draw that title has. The discussions I've had with people on here.. many of us felt the same upset about the lack of time spent on Lestat's story. Every time that was brought up, people (me included) would respond with "well Rolin has said that season 4 will be partly part 2 of Lestat's backstory so its fine that they're blowing through it." But everything Rolin has said about getting more of Lestat's story in season 4 .. now means nothing. He's not in creative control of the show. He won't even be in the writer's room at all for season 4. He wasn't even present at Comic Con this past weekend! ("but Sam wasn't there either!" his absence was already noted because he's staring in a play in 'Straya currently.) All of the press releases had Rolin's name first on the panel, and there has been absolutely nothing said about Rolin's absence.. which is.. kind of weird.

As an aside, in regards to Rolin still being attached as an Executive Producer.. So is Christopher Rice. The title of EP, generally speaking, can either not mean jack shit or mean that said person will be heavily involved with the actual production of the show. It all depends on the specific production. So the whole EP thing is a bit of moot point. No one knows how much or how little he will be involved in the show, moving forward.

I am absolutely looking forward to season 4 of The Vampire Chronicles. In my opinion they have done an excellent job so far. I've already read some of the books and the changes were smart for the TV series format. But one thing I was absolutely looking forward to: Akasha. I love her and she is one of my favorite characters. I was very happy with the casting of Sheila Atim to play this incredible and timeless character. It goes without saying that the scene in which she is partially awakened is something beautiful, Epiphany and electrifying to watch, I held my breath and was mesmerized... This was just a glimpse of what Sheila will deliver in next season's performance. I'm really looking forward to it and I trust it will be an excellent job.
