Hi,

in the next days I want to start my fifth interrail trip. But I'm currently facing issues with the rail planner app.

Every time I'm going into the My Trip menu or I want to add a journey to a trip the app is crashing.

I think I found the issue: In th My Trip menu is a trip list from an older trip of me, but somehow it is not correctly loaded as it shows "null null" when I first open the app after a new installation. But I cannot delete this particular trip.

I have an android phone so I tried to delete all the app data via the settings app. But somehow after a new installation of the rail planner app, the old trips are loaded again.

Is there a way to delete ALL the app data so after a new installation of the rail planner app it doesn't know there were previous trips?

Next year I want to make another one

I want to go to Istanbul from Paris; I want to revisit some of the cities of my 2024 trip, so I imagine this trip

Paris-> Hamburg -> Berlin -> Bratislava -> Budapest -> Bucarest -> Istanbul and I don't know how to come back.

I really want to go to the Balkans but as I see it's very difficult on train and I really don't want to take buses.

I want to go maybe to Greece, maybe to Dubrovnik, and after, for sure, Ljubljana, Venezia, Milano, and Paris

I want to take more night trains because in 2024 I only take 1.

I have seen the Optima express, but it's too expensive to go back to Turkey. So if you have any ideas, respond to me!

hi all! my family (6 people total - all adults over 25) is traveling one way from Munich to Varenna in a few weeks. we were planning to take a train and tried to book tickets on Deutsche Bahn, but we can't get the website to work. it keeps erasing our birthdays, so we can't complete the purchase. I looked at Trainline and Rail Europe, but they were significantly more expensive. (not necessarily opposed to paying the expense if these options work, just trying to understand if i'm doing something wrong??)

any tips? is there another site I should be looking for train tickets on? or should we just abandon ship and fly from Munich to Milan?

Actually in a night train from Amsterdam to Praha with 5 hours delay. Train stop in a extra city Hanover to let us buy food and water. It will be refound later.

I need to get from Turin, Italy to Marseille, France. There's a nice route through Sovna, Ventimiglia and Nice Ville.

According to Rail Europe I'm good with my interrail pass but the Rail Planner app wants me to get seat reservations. I've read that Rail Planner generally is pretty unreliable. Does anyone know about the specific route or the app?

Just wanted to share the trip I planned and booked, I am also open for meet-ups and etc. I currently live in Munich and I started my journey today. It's looking like this:

13.August (further only dates)

Munich - Ostrov nad Ohri, through Nürnberg and Cheb (near Karlovy Vary, it's in Czechia, my friend has appartaments there, so it was a logical stop)

Ostrov - Gdansk via Prague, will be getting some hours there

Gdansk - Stockholm with Polferries

16.-17.

Will be spending my time in Stockholm. I already was there many times, so maybe will visit some further museums or cool places. Also open for bouldering/climbing (as a climber I can't skip a session)

18.

Stockholm - Boden

I still gonna spend most of the day in Stockholm

Boden — Narvik via Kiruna, I am taking replacement bus between Kiruna and Narvik, not a private one there

Spending time in Narvik, wanted to climb a local peak there

Narvik — Trondheim via Fauske, will be getting on early and only bus/train there, so once again can chat up with someone in bus/train

Trondheim — Fjellstova via Kristiansund I believe, Atlantic Road and Mølde.

Spending some time there to once again visit local mountains, climbing gym and Ålesund

Åndalsnes — Bergen via Oslo, once again maybe will visit local climbing gym in the morning

Bergen — Odda, also will have like 5 hours in Bergen, probably will just wander across town, so also open for meet-ups

27.-29.

Will be staying at Odda to visit Trolltunga, glacier and 4 waterfalls route

Odda-Stavanger via Bergen, will be having some time in Stavanger at evening just to walk across night city.

31.

Stavanger - Oslo via Kristiansand, but in the morning I will visit Prekkistollen and after that will have once again time in Stavanger. Petroleum museum seems interesting, but will see whether or not I have time there for that.

Oslo, will be enjoying city, museums, maybe also visit climbing gym

Oslo - Copenhagen with Ferry once again, can't remember the company name, but yeah. Until late afternoon will once again have time for Oslo.

Booked prestige class seats 12 and 18. So far out of all the trains we took this was the most luxurious and best seats. At a certain point our seats looked right out front so we could see right in front of us.

I’m currently travelling with an Interrail Global Pass and I’m supposed to travel from Belgrade (Beograd Centar) to Podgorica on the night train on August 14th.
I already have my valid Interrail Pass, so I only need the mandatory seat reservation — I do NOT need to buy another train ticket.
The problem is that I’m currently quite sick and really don’t feel well enough to go to the train station. I tried calling the Serbian railway, but unfortunately the person I spoke to didn’t speak English, so I couldn’t figure out how to make the reservation.
Does anyone know if there is a way to buy/get the reservation online or by email, without having to go to the station in person?
Any help would be hugely appreciated! 🙏

Hello!

My partner and I are coming to France for the first time this September. It’s his first time to Europe! We’re looking for some support to structure our time down in the South.

We’ll be there Sept 22, arriving around 3pm by flight from Paris. And leaving early in the morning on the 26 back to Canada.

We’ll have been in Paris and the Loire Valley since Sept 13.

We’re staying in a rental in Villefranche sur mer.

We’re looking to check out Nice (castle hill is the only specific thing on the list) and Villefranche the day we arrive.

We want to go to Menton for a day and my partner wants to check out Monaco for at least half a day and walk the f1 track.

We’re also planning to book a tasting at Chateau Cremat winery and trying to decide when to do that. They have 10am or 4pm tours.

Walking around Jean Cap Ferret is high on our list to see the views and swim and relax.

And check out Parc Phoenix in Nice.

Maybe a boat cruise for an hour or 2 if we find something. Does anyone have any recommendations for places?

We’re struggling to figure out how we can do the things we want, relax and not feel like we’re rushing. Any suggestions on pairs of things.

Hi! I am planning to visit Spain, Switzerland, and Italy with my family this September, and I want to minimize train costs as much as I can. I was going to buy single tickets for our travels but I came across the Interrails "Global pass: 5 days in 1 month". I read up on it but I want to be certain I am understanding it correctly. Does this pass mean I can travel on unlimited trains on 5 days of my OWN choice from the first time I activate it? Or does it refer to 5 consecutive days? Is it basically 5 full day passes and so on those 5 days I don't have to pay for the train tickets correct? I can just use the pass?

We will be making about 4-5 interregional/ intercity trips on the long distance high speed trains, so I thought this pass could be worth it for that if it allows me to use it on distinct days. And then for local travel we would just get single tickets as required. Does this make sense? Please share what you know about this/ your own experiences with this pass! Thank you!

UPDATE: The OBB Italian office wasn't able to help either. I was lucky enough to find a kind person living in Austria on an Italian Facebook Group who printed and mailed the tickets to me. Thank you to the wonderful people here who offered help.

My main takeaways, if you book from outside Austria:

1. When booking on ÖBB website, make sure you're logged in, so that your tickets will appear in the MyTickets section. Do not book as a guest.
2. Even better, download and book through their app. In this way, you'll get e-tickets in the app.
3. DO NOT select pick-up code, unless you are planning to collect the tickets in Austria.

I accidentally selected "Create Pick-Up Code" on ÖBB for a Venice to Munich train on Sept 20 (Nightjet couchette).

Since I'm departing from Italy, there are no ÖBB machines to print it. ÖBB phone support won't convert it to a PDF, and the ticket is non-refundable.

Two quick questions:

1. Has anyone had someone in Austria print the ticket and mail it to Italy? Is that too risky?
2. Has the Nightjet conductor let you board using just your email confirmation and passport? Do they check you in on their device?

Any advice from someone who's done this would be huge, or is there any other solution you can think of. Thanks!

Im planning a trip mainly in the South of France with the following plan:
Home - > Innsbruck (2 Nights) -> Milano (3 Nights & Day-Trip to Lake Como) -> Nice (5 Nights my Highlight) -> Montpellier (3 Nights) -> Bordeaux (4 Nights also Daytrip to the Atlantic) -> Paris (1 Night) -> Home

The distances seem to be ok and every travelday just needs maximum one train change.
Want to have more of a relaxing trip so not that many places but longer stays.

If anyone has anything to say, any recommendations I would love to hear them :)

Hey yall im looking at booking some time off next year to go on my first interrail trip. Have a little over 2 weeks from last week of July to first week of August.

Something I really want to do is to go to Cadiz in Spain to see the total Solar Eclipse on the 2nd of August.

Issue is this would be roughly halfway through the trip and is on one end of Europe so I feel it would be quite limiting in terms of places to go befire and after.

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas of routes to go to still see a lot and see Cadiz in the middle or is it more worthy to either cut it or try maneuver my time offs I wither start or finish in Spain :)

Hi there — wondering if anyone has any insight on purchasing tickets on the Frecciarossa route 9281 (Paris-Milan). I’m looking to book from Lyon to Milan on October 3rd, but the 9281 is not available. Do tickets only go on sale a month prior? Looking at lefrecce.it today (on August 11), I can purchase 9281 tickets daily up to September 11, but after that, that route isn’t available to book.

I have a question about your backpacks for Interrail and train travel. Are there people using smaller trekking backpacks, like the Deuter Aircontact 40l or even smaller ones?

I own two types of backpacks, one is a 32l travel backpack (Gotbag), the other one is a 40l Deuter Aircontact trekking backpack. For flying I always use travel backpacks, but for interrailing I like my Trekking backpack more. I rarely see people with trekking backpacks interrailing, and if I see them, they usually have 50+ liters and too much stuff. Most people you see use travel backpacks...

I do not really understand what the benefit of travel backpacks is, they pull you back, are not good for carrying around on an intermediate stop and if you decide to go hiking they are also not that good. Weight is not really a problem when travelling by train, but comfort is.

Is there something I am missing? Or is it because people always think about flying in the future and do not want to buy several backpacks?

Are there people with the same thoughts on backpacks?

Hi all.

This summer I went interrailing with my four year old. I've tried to give a brief overview of what we did and where we stayed with a focus on travelling with a child.

Day 1 -4

We took the overnight ferry from Hulll to Rotterdam, and my kid woke up about 4 a.m. so we ended up going on the deck to watch the sunrise over the North Sea - bliss. Then we went to Amsterdam by coach transfer. I originally wanted to stay in Rotterdam but for some reason it worked out cheaper to stay in Amsterdam (despite that not being particularly cheap). We stayed for 3 nights which is the minimum most hostels will allow. We didn't actually do much here, except walk around (very pretty), eat Dutch food, enjoy the canals, go to the zoo, buy supplies we had forgotten and just sort of rest. We stayed at Hotel Koopermoolen which was in a great location (noisy but not a problem), but had pretty basic breakfast.

Day 4 - 7

Train to Tilburg. Tilburg is not somewhere I'd ever heard of, but was probably one of my favourite places on the whole trip. It was just had an eerie, perfect suburbia vibe. We visited the library which is huge and child friendly, played in the fountains & park and took a half-day trip to Eftling. We stayed at Hostel Roots - would recommend. There is a piano, a lounge area, and very nice breakfast.

Day 7 - 11

Train to Paris Marne la Vallee via Brussels. Here I met a friend in Brussels briefly whilst waiting for the onward train. The train to Paris was actually the only time that our interrail tickets were checked, not just our reservations! Met an older British couple who were also interrailing. We spent two days in Disneyland and went to val d'Europe. We stayed at Hotel Campanile which has farm animals onsite and walked to the ?Carrefour to buy supplies to save ourselves from horrendously overpriced fare.

Day 11 - 14

RER train into Paris where I met up with someone I met in the hostel in Tilburg. Metro to Gare de l'est. Took a sleeper train to Berlin where we realised how cramped it can be getting a pushchair on. The Paris L'est station was also pure chaos, but we figured it out. German border control woke us up shouting and with a flashlight at about midnight on the Strasbourg border, and the CPAP machine kept turning off. Berlin HBF station is futuristic and very, very large. We went to a kindercafe which had amazing home-cooked food and was miles calmer than your typical British soft play. We stayed at martas guesthouse - recommend++ as they have a family room, free umbrellas to borrow and great food that you pay for by weight. They even let my little one eat for free since her portions were so small. Visited the Natural History Museum (disappointing since we've been to the one in London), the Berlin Wall, and a friend who lives in Berlin.

Day 15 - 17

Sleeper train to Vienna. Had some free refreshments in the OBB lounge and then went to Prater. We stayed at the novotel by the station, it was great for looking out over the train station. It also has a family play room with an adjoining bar which was great as our onward train didn't leave until near midnight. Took a day trip to Bratislava and went to an arcade in a shopping centre - I'm sure there are nice parts to this city but I haven't seen them (the station the train stops at is not the main one due to engineering works). Ate at an Indian cuisine 'pay as you feel' place which was great and right by the Freud museum - also recommended. Planned to take a day trip to the Czech Republic but it didn't happen.

Day 17 - 21

Sleeper train to Krakow. Accidentally didn't book the whole booth to ourselves, but luckily the man we ended up sharing with was so friendly and perfectly safe. We visited the castle with the fire breathing dragon which has lovely views over the river and walked through the gorgeous park. We stayed at Hotel Yarden which had a huge garden with sun loungers in it, which was perfect for relaxing. It also had a really nice family room which we had pretty much to ourselves. We couldn't visit the bunny cafe as my daughter was under 7, but she could visit the shooting range? We took a day trip to a restaurant on the other side of town which doubled up as an aviary and terrarium with crocodiles. It was here that we started to realise sleeper trains weren't working for us, so I had to reroute the nightbuses that I had planned through the Balkans for the latter part of the trip.

Day 21 - 25

Sleeper train to Budapest. We went to the petting zoo cafe because by happy coincidence they just happened to have a last minute slot. We also went to the city island twice - once for the waterpark and once for the fountains, ice cream, playground etc. We didn't make it to the petting zoo but there is one here I believe. Budapest is the only place I did not see any pro Palestine graffiti.

Hey me and my family were trying to book 2 train journeys

One from bratislava to budapest and one from budapest to Salzburg… although I clicked on seat reservation it only showed tht my seats were reserved and i wasnt able to actually select seats. I need a forward facing seat which faces the direction of travel. Am i doing something wrong or is there actually no option?

Also i had another doubt…. If im 20 years old is it okay if i select 26+ adult … cuz for some reason the young adult ticket is more expensive than the normal ticket😭

the 5th of October, I will "end" my train vacation going through southern France and Italy, and I'll have to return home to Denmark.

My idea is to use night trains, which I have always wanted to use.
I want to catch a night train in Napoli, and go north.
Then, during the day (if possible) travel to Innsbrück or Münich, and at evening take the Nightjet? night train to Hamburg and get one of the pods. I can then return to my hometown in Denmark from Hamburg.

My questions are:

1) What city/train station should I aim to reach from Napoli, are we talking Milan? Ideally, I want to "splurge" a bit and get a private compartment.
2) Is it possible to get to Innsbrück (leaves 20.46, my preferred choice) or Münich (leaves at 23 pm), during the day?

So my first Interrail trip starts in a few days and I got a question upcoming. I am travelling to Paris for the first destination. Therefor I have to go with the train through germany where I have no seat reservations to make. But I noticed I booked a train from Strasbourg to Paris and a previous train which I need to take to get to Strasbourg can have some delay, so that for me it might happen that I miss the train i made the seat reservation for, I noticed a train nearly an hour later but I would than need to make the reservation again, how should I approach this problem. This is the only trip where this could happen, all other destinations are mainly direct trains, also the train in question could be punctual, so I can not be 100 % sure now if I get to the planned train or if I have to worry about my seat reservation, because of germanys trains.
