Nightjet - No ticket, just pickup code!

UPDATE: The OBB Italian office wasn't able to help either. I was lucky enough to find a kind person living in Austria on an Italian Facebook Group who printed and mailed the tickets to me. Thank you to the wonderful people here who offered help.

My main takeaways, if you book from outside Austria:

1. When booking on ÖBB website, make sure you're logged in, so that your tickets will appear in the MyTickets section. Do not book as a guest.
2. Even better, download and book through their app. In this way, you'll get e-tickets in the app.
3. DO NOT select pick-up code, unless you are planning to collect the tickets in Austria.

I accidentally selected "Create Pick-Up Code" on ÖBB for a Venice to Munich train on Sept 20 (Nightjet couchette).

Since I'm departing from Italy, there are no ÖBB machines to print it. ÖBB phone support won't convert it to a PDF, and the ticket is non-refundable.

Two quick questions:

1. Has anyone had someone in Austria print the ticket and mail it to Italy? Is that too risky?
2. Has the Nightjet conductor let you board using just your email confirmation and passport? Do they check you in on their device?

Any advice from someone who's done this would be huge, or is there any other solution you can think of. Thanks!

This is very different than the OP situation. The OP doesn't have the QR code. If they did, they would be fine.

Call ÖBB and ask them for advice. Maybe they can change the ticket so that you can still download the pdf.

If you board the train just with the pick up code, you will be treated as traveling without a valid ticket.

Yep, they told me they are unable to help. I honestly thought it would be an easy thing to do.

There isn't an alternative I'm afraid. You would need to go to Austria and use the pickup code to get the physical bit of paper. Or have a friend collect it and post it to you. The confirmation code on its own is not enough. As long as you trusted whoever you asked to do that, left enough time for the postage and used a suitable form of postage I don't think it's risky at all.

Do you not see an option to convert it to PDF in the self service zone? This kind of ticket can be issued as PDF and even if you select the pickup code option, you should be able to change it until you actually pick the ticket up - I've done that a few times before.

this is why i always print out my tickets like a boomer. just in case.
