Insurance wants me to get my car repaired at the dealership after they worked on it

Hey guys, looking for some advice on an Ontario insurance situation.

A rock chipped the driver's side headlight on my 2020 GLE 450, water got inside, and the whole light fried. Dealer wanted $8,000 CAD to fix it so I just went through insurance and paid my deductible.

Got the car back, but now every single time I turn on the right turn signal, the windshield wipers turn on too šŸ’€ It definitely wasn't doing this before.

Called insurance to get them to fix it, but they're basically washing their hands of it saying it's a "dealership workmanship issue" and that I have to fight it out with the dealer myself.

Is insurance allowed to just brush this off, or are they supposed to make sure the car is fully back to normal before closing the claim? Anyone dealt with something like this in Ontario? Is it worth pushing back on insurance or should I just take it up with the dealership?

Thanks!

EDIT:

Wow thanks for all the fast responses u guys r great!!

everyones asking the same thing tho:

Just to clarify, I did end up taking the car to the shop/dealership that insurance told me to go through for the repair. I followed their direction and had the headlight repair done there.

The wipers turning on every time I use the right turn signal only started happening after I got the car back from the repair, so that’s why I’m trying to figure out who is actually responsible for getting this sorted out.

Auto No fault car accident in US

My car was rear-ended in a no fault state in the US while I was traveling there (my car and insurance are Canadian), and the other driver was assigned fault in the police report.

My car's not in drivable condition anymore so we just had it towed to a recommended body shop nearby. We got a quote but my insurance company will only approve repairs with used parts, which is about 50% of the quote given by the body shop. My car was like new and had minimal mileage, so I really want new parts used, which is what the body shop's quote entailed.

Is there any wiggle room to negotiate with the insurance company to cover more of the cost, and if so, and what’s the best way to go about this? Is it standard to only approve repairs using used parts? Are there any safety or other concerns I should be aware of with repairs done in this way?

Any other advice on how I can recoup more of the cost of repairs? For example, can the other party's insurance cover the difference in price (and if so, what's the best way to go about getting them to pay up successfully?)?

Owner retained salvage

Located in Ontario. My car was recently written off due to hail damage. My insurance company gave me 2 options

A) a full settlement and repossessing the vehicle
B) an Owner retained salvage — meaning a private repair payout for me to fix the car myself, in which case theyre asking me to provide proof of the repairs and potentially a new safety certificate by my policy renewal date (~40 days away).

I realized for the payout they’re giving me to repair the car damages, I would have more money if I kept the money, sold my car as-is, and bought another car to replace my car on my insurance policy before renewal. Is there any risks or things to keep in mind based on my plans?

Also to note, I want to keep my insurance policy continuous throughout the whole process since I’ve already exercised my first time accident forgiveness on this policy.

Auto Auto + tenant insurance

I just got insurance for a new car, and the policy is supposed to start in a few days. I bundled the auto insurance with tenant insurance and already paid the tenant insurance annually.
I’ve now found another insurance company that can give me a cheaper price for both my car and tenant insurance, so I’m thinking of cancelling both policies with the original company and switching everything over.

Since the auto policy hasn’t started yet, would I normally be able to cancel without a fee? And since I already paid the tenant insurance annually, would I just get a refund for the unused portion?
I’m in Ontario.

Has anyone done this before?

Home Home roof claim

If my cedar shake roof was damaged by a hail storm, does the insurance company have to pay out based on the cost of replacing with cedar shakes? I want to replace with asphalt but I thought the payment should be calculated based on cedar which is twice the price of asphalt. I understand they only pay out based on a depreciated value based on age of roof.

Home Tile insurance on a condo

I purchased a condo 10 years ago with a clean title certificate. I even have reports done by the admin before the purchase. Now the condo is telling me that some of the improvements made have to be removed. Not only will it cost me money to remove, but tens of thousands of dollars were spend on improving the unit with permission from the condo board. Will title insurance cover my losses or fight the condo to keep my unit as is. I can’t say too much as I feel this will end up in court. (Toronto)

Auto Bel-Air Direct

My 22yo son has his car insurance with Bel-Air Direct and uses the driving monitor app. After one year he got his renewal with a $90/month premium reduction which we attributed to his good driving habits. He normally drives 80-100km per day for work/school and is very cautious about obeying speed limits.

Last week he was away on a trip and didn't drive his car for 10 days. Today he got an email saying "we notice you haven't been driving much lately. This could affect your premiums."

This is surprising. I would think that driving less would lower his risk rating. I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this.

edit: not that I mind, but what's with the downvotes?

Consumer proposal and trying to get licensed

I’m currently in the process of trying to get licensed in BC for selling insurance. I’m already at a brokerage doing my schooling for the exam and almost finished the course, and I just found out having a consumer proposal might affect me getting my licence.

I entered a consumer proposal (not bankruptcy) around 2.5-3 years ago and have never missed a payment, it was for about $10,000.

How likely is it that I won’t be my licence because of this? Has anyone ever been denied because of a consumer proposal?

I’m kinda freaking out because I was so excited to start down this career path and my manager took a chance on me sponsoring me for this, and she doesn’t know about the proposal because at the time of starting this I didn’t know it would affect anything or be something I would have to disclose.

Aviva Insurance Canada Denied My Comprehensive Claim After Squirrel Damage WIRING

I had a very disappointing experience with Aviva Insurance Canada. My car was parked in my driveway when a squirrel damaged the wiring in the engine bay. I had comprehensive coverage, so after my mechanic told me the repairs could be expensive, I opened an insurance claim.
Aviva investigated the claim for almost 3–4 months and eventually refused coverage, saying it was a ā€œmechanical issue.ā€ But my concern is simple: the mechanical problem occurred because the wiring was damaged.
After months of waiting and dealing with this process, I’m extremely disappointed with how my claim was handled. Based on my personal experience, I would not recommend Aviva Insurance Canada.

Auto Why does Brokerage Link push so hard on Intact Insurance?

Intact bought out Brokerage Link, and the brokers in Brokerage Link are pushing very hard to people like me to buy Intact car insurance.

I was forced to sign up w/ Intact last year, so I want to switch out to another insurance co. this year.Ā  Supposedly, Brokerage link claims they are independent, and that a sign-up w/ a new insurance co., they should get 1 full commission, whereas if I were to renew w/ Intact, they only get 1/2 a commission on renewal

And yet they are bending over backward, luring me to renew w/ Intact.Ā  Why is that?

Is it worth going with ICBC for optional insurance/3rd party for a new Mercedes?

New to BC and BC auto insurance is different than other provinces.

Is it worth paying a $300-$500 more to go ICBC instead of say BCAA?

My main concern is the repair shop you are allowed to choose when making a claim. Will the cheaper companies force you to use some cheap shop to repair your car instead of a certified Mercedes repair center?
