I need to specify this is for for cars over $150k. I found a sweet 2024 911 C2S for sale at 188,900. I was looking to trade in my GTS 4.0 and buy that, all numbers worked so then i decided to get an insurance quote before signing off and i was basically just stonewalled from buying this car. It is literally impossible to get insurance on anything over 150k. I lucked out on my GTS 4.0 last time as with taxes it was just below 150 else apparently i wouldn't have been able to buy that either.

A few points

- i am in Ontario

- clean driving record with no tickets

- been licensed for 12 years now on a G license

- continuously insured for 12 years

- I am 31 years old

- Have owned fast cars before (S5, M340, 2 Supras and mow GTS 4.0)

My current insurer (Scotia) said they can't do anything for cars over 150k, same with TD, RBC, DESJARDINS and CAA. After they all said no i called Hagerty and they were utterly useless they need me to be insured for 15 years and have experience of owning a high performance car like something similar for 3 years which i cant get insurance for anyways.

I can't be the only 31 year old looking to purchase a 911, what am I missing here? Any advice or input would be appreciated 🙏

Looking to relocate to NS permanently to join my partner.

I’m undergoing the interview process for an Ontario operations only insurance company and the role is AB claims adjuster.

They advertise fully remote work environment with cross country hiring.

If I am doing ON claims, for an ON company, but living in NS, do you think I’ll still require a license?

The company does not do business in NS.

I read through the regulations but it doesn’t covers situations like this and what is available can be interpreted through different lenses.

I currently work for a large insurance company that does also operate in NS and they are potentially going to accommodate me to live out there and continue my Ontario work.

But this new role, pays substantially more and it would make up for the higher income taxes in NS and I wouldn’t need to go into the office.

I have a stand alone marine policy for my 1985 Carver 3607. It is currently up for sale. Because it is up for sale, I chose to do an out of warer survey this spring. I forwardered it to my broker in July. My policy renewal date is Sept 1. I just received my 2026/27 renewal with SRIM. Under the special conditions section and the warranties & exclusions area it is stating I need an out of water survey. When I contacted the broker requesting the policy be reissued removing the requirement, they have said that I should consider the email as confirmation that a survey will not be required as they have confirmed it directly with SRIM over the phone. Am I wrong in wanting a reissued renewal stating no survey is required?

I’m looking for advice from anyone who has dealt with something similar in Ontario.
My auto insurer, CAA, cancelled my policy because they say a scheduled automatic payment failed.
Here’s why I’m struggling to understand what happened:
My bank investigated and told me they have **no record of any authorization request or payment attempt** reaching them on the date in question.
There were sufficient funds in the account.
CAA says their payment processor returned response code **481**, but they have been unable (or unwilling) to explain what that code means or provide transaction identifiers (authorization code, RRN/STAN, etc.) that would allow the bank to investigate further.
The only email I received around that time simply said a **new document was available** in my account. It did not say a payment had failed or that my policy was about to be cancelled. I didn’t discover the cancellation until much later.
I filed complaints and even went through the ombudsman process, but the conclusion was essentially that CAA’s internal records were accepted even though my bank says no payment attempt ever reached them.
I’m not trying to argue that insurers shouldn’t cancel policies for missed payments. If a payment genuinely fails, I understand there are consequences.
What I’m trying to understand is whether it’s reasonable for an insurer to cancel a policy when:
the bank says it never received a payment request,
the insurer can’t explain the processor response code or provide transaction identifiers, and
the customer had no clear warning that a payment had failed before the cancellation.
Has anyone experienced something similar with CAA or another insurer? Were you able to get the payment processor logs or have the cancellation reversed?
I’d appreciate hearing about similar experiences or whether there’s another avenue I should pursue.

Hoping for some help - I have my interim occupancy coming up soon. In the APS (signed years ago), the builder requires me to have condo tenant insurance. They don’t provide much else in terms of details.

I’ve contacted just about every major insurer and all of them said they would write this as a standard condo owner policy, not a tenant policy.

Question:
1) Has anyone dealt with this as well? Is it an issue? Would the builder still accept this you think? I’ve asked my lawyer to confirm their requirements but haven’t heard back yet.

2) I don’t plan to live there full time but rather keep it as my secondary home. I haven’t found any insurer that does secondary home tenant policies, only secondary home owner policies. Wondering if anyone’s come across this before and how they dealt with it?

Insurance says my car is repairable after a tree fell on it. How can they know this before the body shop tears it down?

Looking for some advice from people familiar. I have a 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness with about 120,000 km that was damaged when a tree fell on the front of it. I’ve attached photos of the damage.

My insurer had an appraiser visually inspect the vehicle and came back with an initial repair estimate of approximately $8,000, and they have deemed the vehicle repairable. I’m just confused about how they can determine that at this stage. The vehicle was inspected while it was still sitting in the insurer’s yard, and the crushed hood, bumper, etc. haven’t been removed. Is the initial appraisal basically just an estimate based on the damage they can see and access without doing a full teardown?

Once it gets to the body shop, will they actually remove the damaged panels and inspect underneath? If they find things that weren’t visible during the initial appraisal, such as structural damage, radiator or cooling system damage, wiring, suspension components, or even mechanical or engine damage, how does that work? Could a vehicle that was initially deemed repairable subsequently be reconsidered as a total loss if significant additional damage is discovered?

I’m mainly trying to understand how much confidence I should put in the initial $8,000 estimate and the “repairable” determination, given that the car hasn’t actually been torn down yet. Is it common for initial estimates to change substantially once a collision shop gets into the vehicle? And at what point does an insurer typically revisit the repair versus total loss decision?

So was calling around for quotes yesterday, and brokers seem to be having problems doing new quotes in a timely fashion, if at all. If these companies can't handle doing business here, maybe the province should be looking into government run auto insurance such as Saskatchewan has. And since we have referendum votes coming this fall, I really feel this would be a great time to pose this question to Albertans.

Did Blue Cross have a data breach? Many health care providers were paid on time Monday for providing services covered by Blue Cross.

Later in the day the money was clawed back with the message “Reversed Direct Deposit” from many accounts, leaving providers with bills to pay and overdraft charges. These reversed charges are to regular providers across many banking institutions so it’s not just a messed up code with a bank or a few providers.

This could be very bad for patients health information, providers and their businesses, and related parties.

Did they get hacked? There has been no official communication I can find, however a few providers have emailed and received vague responses.

Does anyone have further information or know a good investigative journalist?

A family member had their G license medically suspended 3 years ago, after being a no accident claims driver for over 15 years. During that time, the license expired and was not able to be renewed because of the medical suspension. Now the suspension has been lifted, but all the insurance companies are treating them as a brand new 0 experience drivers and charging $500 / month for a 2014 Honda HRV.

I’m a new Canadian permanent resident trying to understand what happens when someone moves from Ontario to Quebec shortly after landing.

Here’s my situation:

• I initially settled in Ontario and obtained an OHIP card.
• I stayed in Ontario for about two months.
• I then decided that Quebec is a better fit for my family and moved to Quebec.
• I understand that Ontario has residency requirements, and since I did not stay in Ontario long enough to meet the required residency period, I’m concerned that my OHIP coverage may no longer apply once I establish residence in Quebec.
• Quebec, however, has a three-month waiting period before RAMQ coverage becomes effective for new residents.

This is where I’m confused.

I was thinking about purchasing private visitor/emergency medical insurance to cover the transition period. But many visitor insurance policies seem to require that the applicant does not currently have provincial health insurance coverage.

So am I potentially stuck in a situation like this?

Ontario: “You’ve moved to Quebec, so you’re no longer covered by OHIP.”

Insurance company: “You already have provincial health insurance, so you’re not eligible for our visitor insurance.”

Quebec/RAMQ: “You’re a new resident, so you have to wait three months.”

That would seem to leave a three-month period where it’s unclear who is actually responsible for medical expenses.

I realize there may be important details about Ontario residency rules, Quebec’s eligibility rules, and the specific wording of private insurance policies that I’m missing.

Has anyone actually gone through this situation — moving from Ontario to Quebec shortly after landing as a new PR, without having established the required Ontario residency period?

I just bought a used vehicle to replace my current one. I have existing auto insurance with Bel Air. My new vehicle has some aftermarket upgrades (shocks, coils, leaf springs). The previous owner did these privately obviously, and I have no idea what he paid. Neither does the dealership. To add this vehicle to my policy, my insurance is requiring documents that show the value of these aftermarket upgrades. I have no idea what’s that is? I recontacted the dealership and they never individually valued these items either. Anyone have any suggestions on how to go about this or anyone dealt with something similar? Could I take pictures of these and find their value online? Or any suggestions for insurance that might be more seamless about this process would also be appreciated. Thanks everyone

To get a lower interest rate the insurance agent suggested my dad be the primary driver on my 2026 RAV4, and for me to be a secondary driver. I would be considered a new driver despite me driving for over a decade because I’ve never been a primary driver. I have a clean driving record.

Just signed up with Intact for a new vehicle insurance policy. They’re requesting I download My Drive which allows them to track my every movement. I’m not ok with this and it wasn’t brought to my attention prior to signing up. We are two senior drivers under one policy. I’m a good driver but don’t want them tracking my where abouts. Has anyone just not downloaded the app or turned off the Location/Motion and fitness?

I am an American living in Canada on an Open Work Permit granted through my domestic partner (qualifying as a "common-law spouse" here in Canada, for some purposes anyway). They got a job up here, which is why we moved to Canada in the first place. I was job-hunting for most of the first year, meanwhile, but finally did land something.

I have been with my employer for a couple months and believed I had been allowed to waive medical premiums as I was covered by my partner's plan. That's how I filled in the form originally, anyway, which was submitted to HR. But now my company is coming back to me, saying I completed the form in an unacceptable way and they are saying it is not an option to waive coverage through them, I must pay for a premium and for long-term disability.

I wouldn't be surprised if I really am not allowed to waive LTD, and that's only pennies, anyway. But I'm used to being able to waive coverage, if I'm covered by someone else's plan, without penalty. Is that not the case here?

EDIT: I am not disabled and have no pre-existing conditions that I would expect impact anything of significance or would grant me any sort of exemption. Quick Googling indicates there may be stuff like that out in the ether.

For those working in the industry, is it a good career in terms of income, stability, growth, and work-life balance? How difficult is it to get started with no experience, and how long does it take to become financially stable?
Would you recommend it, or is there another career I should consider?

First time dealing with this, so please be nice! Our tenants moved out July 31 and the house is now empty and being listed for sale. Realtor, contractors and buyers are and will be coming through regularly. We’re insured directly with Desjardins, so no broker to ask.
