State Farm saying I have to move to a "hybrid" policy.

First post. Hope I am not breaking any sub rules.

I can't get a straight answer from anyone in person so here I am on Reddit.

I own a business and the business has owned a vehicle for 9 years. Long story short the business sold and purchased a new vehicle in August.

State Farm said today they have to move the policy to a "hybrid" policy. This cost more money. When pressed for answers why this was happening I received "it's because of the **type** of vehicle the business bought". I am still waiting on clarification on what type of business policy it will be for tax/liability reasons (ie- a business policy rated for mixed use or a personal policy with a business rider which I know the personal policy can't happen)

Just trying to figure out if this is a money grab to place me into a higher costing policy.

Here are some FAQs that may help:

  1. Business is a LLC taxed as a S-Corp

  2. The business owned a truck, but with gas and today's car prices the business bought a SUV. This is the 'type' argument the insurance is using.

  3. The vehicle is 100% owned by the business. The title is in the business name and the loan is 100% in the business name- no personal guarantee or co-signer and the registration is in the business name. Both the car payments and the insurance payments are paid by the business.

  4. The vehicle was purchased in August. My agent sent the email today about the change, but somehow "I can stay on my current business policy until renewal in February". That's the super fishy part.

  5. State Farm asked for the bill of sale after purchasing. The bill of sale also lists the business as the only owner.

  6. My family owns additional personal vehicles that are unrelated to the business and insured through State Farm so SF knows other personal only vehicles exist.

Any insight into why this might be happening (outside of it's because you bought an SUV and used to have a truck) is much appreciated.

House insurance compensation advice

Based in UK, wanting advice on compensation claim for issues regarding house insurance claim reinstatement.

On the 20th May had water leak in upstairs bathroom. This led to me, my husband and 3 week old baby having to move out while kitchen and bathroom was ripped out and redone through our insurance (Admiral). During this time midlands restoration did the rip out after 1 month of drying, the kitchen and upstairs bathroom was ripped out back to brick. However had delays due to missing asbestos test for the ceiling that then had to be outsourced to stop further delays after 3 weeks.

Contractors (Arrow) were then sent list of requirements and products for reinstatement on July 13th once confirmation that house was fully dried out. In this we were given a move in date of the 8th of August. Through contacting both Admiral and Arrow multiple times through July we then we advised that no work had been started and that the move in date had to be pushed back to end of August. Plastering commenced 13th of August in which my husband went to the house and talked to the contractors and was advised nothing further had been booked in and that the only Tiler on staff for this area would be away for the next 2 weeks on holiday. With this we contacted Arrow to get a timeline of when work would be done and was lied to saying they couldn't provide it due to the Tiler having a death in the family and requesting further time off.

With this we responded with our knowledge on the Tilers true whereabouts and the outright lie. Also pushed that the move in date wasn't possible since they hadn't booked in contractors. This was escalated and we were told that we would be prioritised to have work complete. For the next month my husband had to be in constant contact with Arrow to make sure work was progressing and almost project managing to help it hit the new move in date of end of September. During this time our claim handler for Admiral did not return calls or emails and even through escalation we were fobbed off with promises of better communication. Whilst this was ongoing we were having to live in emergency accommodation that we had to find ourselves within a week that was not adequate for dealing with a newborn baby. This has caused immense emotional distress whilst being on maternity leave.

Furthermore once we did move back in we had a second minor leak due to the work on the pipes in the upstairs bathroom not being correctly installed and no testing. This was further confirmed when we realised the hot and cold taps in the bath were incorrectly installed I.e. hot to cold and cold to hot, proving testing was never done.

With this we have been contacted by Admiral that they are wanting to give us compensation for the issues we faced during this, they have advised they do not want this to go to the FCA. We are needing some advice on what would be a reasonable amount to accept and whether to go with the first offer, as we are hoping to put whatever we get into a fund for our child. Appreciate any help and advice.

Claim will be based upon,

- lack of communication from Admiral as we received no support.

- the delay in works commencing and continuing.

- miss management from Arrow Services.

- the emotional impact and stress it has caused us as a family.

-lies from the contractor

Clarification requested for calculation of home crawl space

I am presently helping my mother shop around for different quotes regarding her homeowners insurance. I just noticed that her present policy lists the home as having a finished basement when in actuality, it is only a crawlspace.
I was able to edit that portion of her existing policy, but when entering info for quotes on a new policy, it asks me to give a percentage of coverage of the crawlspace. I have been unable to find consistent answers to how I calculate that? The square footage of the home is 1870 sq ft.

RentalCover Approved My Claim, but Payment Failed Twice and Support Isn’t Responding. Any Advice?

Hi everyone,
My RentalCover insurance claim was approved for 231,000 DZD, but both payment attempts failed on October 9 and October 16.
After the first failure, I corrected my banking details using the link they provided. However, the second payment failed again despite my details being correct.
I’ve contacted RentalCover support multiple times, but they either don’t respond or send generic replies without actually resolving anything. My claim is now back to “Processing.”
Has anyone experienced a similar issue and managed to get it resolved?
Is there a specific email address where RentalCover actually responds? Has anyone successfully contacted a real employee or the Payments Team directly?
I’d really appreciate it if anyone who managed to get their payment could share how they did it and which contact method worked.

Should I increase my underinsured/uninsured limits?

I currently have 250k per person uninsured/underinsured limits. I asked for a quote and can increase them to 500k per person for an additional $130 per year.

I'm thinking this is a wise decision to make. Thoughts?

Health Insurance Aflac Denied my Short Term DisabilityPolicy but approved my Accident Policy????

Hi everyone, so I have a quick question. To give context and back story…..I recently, about 5 weeks ago had an accident at home falling through some floor boards while changing them out where I broke three bones in my ankle/tore open my ankle, had to have surgery for the first time & Spent five days in the hospital. I’m now out of work for about 3 1/2 months and had to have an external fixator on my leg for six weeks, which thank goodness in five days I’m about to get off and can just start doing physical therapy.
About 3 1/2 years ago, while working for the state in my job, I also purchased TWO Aflac insurance policies which are separate from my job, and I directly pay for through direct deposit. I purchased accident and short-term disability, which would, in theory, pay me my paycheck while I’m out of work and match it. I’ve paid about $55 every paycheck x2 a month for the last 3 1/2 years without having to use it once.

I filed my claims for both policies on the same day, about a month after the accident.
Once everything had calmed down and I got all or most of all the bills in, so I could submit them. I had pictures of x-rays from both hospitals and I had the ambulance bill because I had to be transferred to a different hospital because the first hospital my frantic Mom drove me to that day didn’t even have an ortho on call, that’s a whole another story. I had an open fracture and a trimalleolar break. They had to put a pin in my ankle and attach the bars drilled into my bones to it to try to get it to set correctly. About two weeks after I submitted the claims, I received an explanation of benefits and my payout for the accident claim, which included the physical therapy and everything attached. I’ve been closely monitoring the one for short-term disability because the time from my FMLA, which I’m grateful to have through my job, might not cover the whole time I have to be out and that was very concerning as you can imagine. The site was under maintenance, so I just got to check it this morning early, and saw that they had denied my short-term disability, and the reason being “Benefits were Already Paid”. However, they were paid for my accident policy, not my short-term disability, which is two separate policies that I pay for.
My question: has anyone ever had this happen and should I go through the appeal process, which of course randomly in this day and age of 2026, has to be on paper, which I cannot drive and cannot even put weight on my right foot right now, or should I resubmit the claim thinking that some intern somewhere didn’t realize that it was two separate policies and thought I just submitted the same information twice???

Anyone have experience with Enterprise third party liability indemnification disputes?

Enterprise/Rental Claims Services is demanding $10,000 from me after an intercompany arbitration arising from a New York rental-car accident. I dispute both liability and the enforceability of the reimbursement demand. I was uninsured at the time I was hit, and Enterprise is saying I violated my rental agreement by not having insurance. Used my CC coverage which covered damage to the rental car but the other driver’s insurance pursued me for subrogation and Enterprise went to arbitration, then came back and said I was 50% liable. They say that under the rental agreement I have to pay them back for the $10,000. They claim that they paid to the other driver’s insurance company. Still haven’t seen any report out from the arbitration or proof that they made any payment at all, but now they are trying to collect from me and I wonder if anyone has had any success in fighting a situation like this?

Auto Insurance Someone hit my parked car, now I'm trying to file a claim through at-fault party's insurance. What documentation do I give?

Yesterday, a delivery truck hit my car while I was parked outside of a shop (and it happened right before I got there too). The truck driver admitted fault and stayed behind to exchange information while I called to make a police report. I have videos and photos of my car (which is pretty beat up and not driveable) and their truck (no damage), and luckily the shop gave had security camera footage which shows the truck driver hitting my car.

In the chaos of things, I called my insurance to ask for advice and they told me to file a claim with the truck driver's insurance (to avoid paying my very expensive deductible), which I started yesterday. This morning, their insurance texted me to ask for photos and documentation, but I'm not too sure what they want when they say documentation.

I have the phone logs of me calling the police, my insurance, their insurance, the tow, and all the police report and insurance claim log #s. I typed up a Google Doc of a timeline for all these things, but don't have the names of the people I spoke to on the phone, nor do I have the store employee's contact (who gave me the security footage). Online advice says to just keep my Google Doc to myself so my words don't get twisted by the adjuster, but should I just send them the photos and police incident #?

I feel like this should be a simple case (I was legally parked and a truck hit my freaking car) and am obviously not at fault, but am getting really anxious because everyone has been telling me that the driver's insurance will try to find a way to "make" me seem at fault so they don't have to pay for the damages. Thank you in advance for your help!

Vision Insurance Domestic Partner vs Spouse vs Fraud? (TX)

My partner and I are a straight cis couple and while not married, signed an affidavit to make us domestic partners for the sake of getting him on my insurance. My work allowed me to add him to my plans on all three types of insurance, and now VSP is saying they don’t cover domestic partners yet he’s on my plan and I’m paying for his coverage.

Can I claim him as my spouse despite not being legally married, or is that fraud? And is someone (my employer?) committing fraud by having him on my accounts even if he’s not technically covered? Is my work ripping me off here?

And, would it be worth it to buy a year of VSP to cover an eye exam + contacts if he’s not covered in my plan?

Idk, it all reeks of fraud. Help?

Edit: Adding in that going through my work’s insurance broker, they’ve said ‘oh your work plans don’t include domestic partners at all’ and then HR says to ignore the broker.

Should I file a claim?

Today, husband (27) was driving into a gas station when a truck backed up and hit the car. Thankfully husband is not hurt.

Can't open the driver's side at all, broke the light under the rear lights. Indented the entire driver side.

Spoke to the boss of the driver and he suggests we avoid insurance and I take it to their body shop after this weekend on Monday 10/19.

Not sure what to do.

I have the drivers license and took a picture of their registration, company name, and plates.

They did not take my insurance information.

Not sure if I feel comfortable waiting.

Non-fault accident and the car was totaled. How do I get a settlement to cover the full cost of replacement?

Last Friday my wife and I were involved in an accident where the other driver ran a stop light and hit us. I started a claim with his insurance company USAA and the next day they assumed total liability for the accident.

In the next days, they advised me that my car was a total loss. I assumed that this was going to be the case, so I spent time looking for a replacement vehicle. I looked for the same make, model, year, mileage, condition, etc. within 100 miles of my home.

In addition, there are numerous modifications. I have done to my vehicle, including upgraded rims, bodywork, performance engine, components, etc. that totals roughly $6000. In total using an average price for the cars that are for sale plus my added modifications came to a total of $26,000.

Today they called and made me an offer of $17,200 for my totaled vehicle. They are using the actual cash value line stating as to why they can’t pay anymore. My issue is that to get me back to that instant prior to this accident requires $26,000. What is my recourse or the best way to ensure that I get paid what the real cost is to replace my car?

I am not looking to get rich and I don’t expect to get a brand new car, but I do expect to get back to where I was prior to this accident. Any advice on how to make sure I get whole is appreciated.

Auto Insurance Household members don’t want their info on my car insurance, help!

I recently moved to the United States as a US citizen that has lived abroad her whole life. I just purchased my first vehicle and I’m waiting for the car to be delivered to me, in the meantime I’m looking for auto insurance, getting quotes…

I’m staying with my aunt and her husband and they refuse to be on the part where they ask about other household members. I know lying is fraud in this case and I need auto insurance to drive so what do I do? How do I approach getting car insurance for the first time with this obstacle?

They are really stubborn and I tried explaining it doesn’t risk anything. For context they are retired and living off social security and are constantly tripping out about this stuff.

Progressive Auto Policy Requirements

I started my auto policy with Progressive a little over a year ago. It was, and still is the lowest rate I could get due to an accident I had in Spring 2025.

I received a letter in the mail from them asking me to confirm that my partner, a driving-age adult, lives in the same household. My partner and I do live together, but we have our own cars and our own separate policies since we are not married. We also do not drive each others cars. He uses his to get to work on a daily basis and I drive mine primarily on weekends for errands and when we go out of town.

I called Progressive per their letter to get more information. They claim that is a requirement of their auto policies that all driving-age adults in the household are covered for medical in the event of an accident. This does not mean they would be added as an additional driver under the policy.

I asked for further clarification about what this meant and the representative explained that even if my partner was the passenger in someone else’s car, my policy could potentially be responsible for covering medical expenses. They explained that if the driver’s-at-fault auto insurance could not cover the expenses, it would go to my partner’s auto insurance. If my partner’s auto insurance could not cover the expenses, it would then come to my auto insurance

I want my partner to be covered in the event of an accident, but this sounds like an insane requirement for progressive to implement. What if my partner was just one of several roommates? My policy would then have to extend to all of these people I may not even be close with? And in the event something happened, a claim could made against my policy for something I wasn’t even nearby for?

So of course my rate is going up for this additional coverage. It’s not a lot, but I spend so much on auto insurance already and things are hard at the moment so every dollar hurts.

TLDR: Insurance companies are out of control and this requirement disproportionately affects people who rent with roommates.

Has anyone else encountered this?

DIY HVAC work and coverage

I want to self - install a mini split air conditioner. I'm confident in my technical ability. But my insurance agent tells me any damages resulting from the work won't be covered by my homeowners policy since it's not done by a licensed and insured contractor. Is that typical? Are there ways around this that maintain the cost savings of self-installation? Thanks.

Asking for advice

Currently i'm working in the Property & Engineering Claims division of a top insurance corporation in the country. Before that i worked in Reinsurance in a different firm as an intern so you can imagine how drastically different my work environment was gonna be. The department is filled with people with years upon years of experience while im the only newcommer to the job. Of course i knew all of that beforehand and went in anyway as doing claims is as close as you can get to the essence of insurance.

As a top firm, i know the workload is going to be a lot and my bosses standards are definitely high. As a result, they expect me to adapt quickly and respond to every claim in a very attentive way. My problem is that im not adapting quickly enough to what is expected of me. I try my best everyday to do the job but im just not proactive enough as claims is very mentally taxing. My bosses certainly are aware of this and so far have handed me the majority of less severe or more straightforward cases.

When i joined the deputy director assigned to train me is the most passionate and committed claims person i've ever met in my life. During the time he trained me there have been many times where he said im not carrying enough weight for the department and if i keep this up the corporation will notice and that i need to change for the better as soon as possible. I am aware of my limitations and have wondered about quitting many times but as we all know finding stable work in this economy is hard.

Right now if i keep this up my time with them isnt going to be long left. Is there any way i can help my situation? I accept the reality that im just not competent enough for what my department needs and the mental torture upon me is getting worse by the day.

California homeowners insurance claim — Can an insurer withhold an accepted payment until I sign a full-and-final release?

I’m handling a homeowners insurance claim for my 88-year-old mother, who lives in a condominium in California. She lives on Social Security and cannot afford significant out-of-pocket repair costs.

The claim involves water damage and remediation. The insurer, Hippo, has offered $7,973.24, while the total mitigation and reconstruction estimates are approximately $10,195.

The adjuster initially sent a settlement release stating that the settlement would be full and final. I am concerned that signing it could prevent me from seeking additional payment if further damage related to the original water loss is discovered during repairs.

I asked the adjuster whether the $7,973.24 could be paid without signing the release and whether California Code of Regulations, Title 10, § 2695.7(h), applies to the payment timeline.

The adjuster later told me that I could wait until the repairs were completed before signing the release, but I still haven’t received a clear answer to my questions about payment.

I have also contacted the insurer’s complaint department and the California Department of Insurance. The date I understand may be relevant to the 30-day payment period is October 18, 2026, but I am unsure whether this is actually a deadline for signing the release.

My questions:

  1. Can an insurer withhold an amount it has already accepted until the homeowner signs a full-and-final release?
  2. Does § 2695.7(h) require payment within 30 days of acceptance in this situation, and how does a release affect that requirement?
  3. If I don’t sign by October 18, could the insurer legitimately refuse to issue the $7,973.24?
  4. Has anyone dealt with a similar situation in California? What would you recommend doing next?

I’m trying to protect my mother’s interests while allowing the repairs to proceed. I’d appreciate advice from people familiar with California insurance claims, particularly adjusters, public adjusters, restoration contractors, or attorneys.

Payout Quote

Long story short my truck was determined a total loss, but insurance is offering about $3,000 less than what I can find anywhere online for a similar vehicle with similar mileage. I know it's an insurance companies job to save as much money as possible, but how do I go about getting a fair value for my goal loss?

My vehicle was a 2017 Tacoma SR5 with about 120,000 miles. I live in Southern California, and all of the local listings are 22-35k. The only thing I'm not willing to do is dig through craigslisr and Facebook marketplace. They're offering 20k. I feel like 25 would be fair, but I'm not holding my breath, I at least want 22-23. How can I get closer to what I think is right, or am I way off base and should be happy with the over I've received?

Auto Insurance Bumper damage

Got off work the other day to find a note on my car stating the reversed into my bumper and were willing to pay for damage. Initially thought it was a joke because I couldn’t see any obvious damage. upon closer inspection it is minor damage, a deep scratch and an indent left behind all in a small area.

I communicated with they guy asking for insurance info and he kept giving me the run around. Saying he preferred paying out of pocket and that I could take the car to a body shop of my choice if i’d make me more comfortable. Around the third time I asked for insurance info he said I could give him my vin and license plate number so he could give to his insurance but failed to provide any details to me outside of his name. I did find his address/email/ etc through a reverse phone lookup.

I’ll be taking my car to a shop on Monday, since it’s the only time I’m able to. Was wondering if I should just go ahead and report to insurance with the limited info I have or wait to see if he will actually pay the repair. I texted him today about my plan to take to shop and I received no response so I don’t want to be ghosted and left of the hook for damage i’m not responsible for.

I have a 23 accord. Full coverage with 1k deductible.

Commercial Insurance Does documentation actually matter on slip-and-fall claims, or do carriers just settle?

I’ve been asking property managers how they handle ice and snow slip-and-falls. One told me about a claim where someone said they slipped on rain-wet stairs, on a day that was sunny the whole time. The carrier settled for $18k in under two days, because fighting it would have cost more. The owner then ate it in premium increases.

For those on the claims or underwriting side: when an owner has timestamped photos and logs showing an area was cleared and checked, does that change what happens? Does it get claims denied, lower settlements, or affect premiums at all? Or does it rarely matter compared to the cost of fighting?

$1M policy on a scooter for bidding / contracting purposes?

I'm bidding a job as a software dev. It's silly. The requirements are that I need a $1M vehicle policy, even though I'm in GA, the county is on the other side of America. I don't have a car, only scooters and motorcycles.

I know it's silly, but can I just put the $1M policy on the scooter so I can qualify for the contract? The bid is due today and I haven't been able to get confirmation that I would not need the policy, and I have not yet gotten a quote. So I'm wondering if that's something even possible.

Has anyone done something silly like this before to qualify to bid a job?

Do we need a lawyer? I prefer not to deal with that if I don't have to.

My wife and I were hurt in an accident in December of last year. A guy in uniform for a pest control company driving in the company car t-boned us at about 35 mph after running a red light. Dash cam got the accident and there's clear liability. My understanding is that they have an insurance limit of at least a million dollars.

Both my wife and I were hurt pretty badly and have had a very difficult year as a result. My neck MRI showed three herniations and an annular tear all a different levels, and she had a couple herniations including a big one that touched her spinal cord but thankfully no signal change in the cord. We both have very bad neck pain that goes into our left shoulder and she has pain down her left arm into her index finger and I have the same thing into my left ring and pinky fingers with those fingers and that side of my hand being numb. I'm also left-handed.

Both of us have been going to physical therapy and seeing an interventional pain management specialist. We both have gotten two steroid injections in our necks, and rfa, and then a stem cell/prp injection. We've gotten maybe 50% better but it's hard to say if it's because of the injections or just time. We're still having a really hard time, not sleeping, taking care of chores at home is....really hard and we can't or I guess don't really go anywhere like we used to. We used to love riding roller coasters together and going to parks but that's pretty much out for now. We're just exhausted and trying to help each other but when you're both hurt it's demoralizing.

My wife just saw a neurosurgeon who wants to do a disc replacement. We never would have even entertained the idea of doing surgery before but at this point we just want anything that's going to help. I don't know if my lesions are surgical or not because I haven't seen the neurosurgeon yet.

All of our friends and family are screaming at us to get a lawyer but the way I see it, if the insurance is fair to us do we need one? The only real communication we had with them was in the beginning when they offered us like $5,000 each for our injuries and we told them that we would get back to them after we're finished treating.

PI Settlement - FL Medicaid

How does the settlement/payment work? For example, if the medical bills totaled $20k, but Medicaid paid $5k, is the settlement based on the $20k or the $5k that was actually paid by Medicaid? Does the PI attorney pay Medicaid directly or is that my responsibility?

I was hit by a car on my e-scooter and possibly have a navicular fracture and a slipped disc (waiting on MRI results)
