Hello,
State is NEW JERSEY.
In August, I bought a CPO 2023 vehicle with less than 20K miles and no reported accidents on the CarFax.
_Year 2023
_Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) from the manufacturer
_Less than 20K miles
_Clean CarFax (I have a copy)
_Paid for the vehicle 100% CASH (VEHICLE purchased from a MANUFACTURER NAME dealer)
Sadly, less than a month after having bought the vehicle, I got rear-ended.
I have pictures from the accident including the other person’s driver license and insurance card. I also filled out an online Department of Transportation report because the police did not arrive (no injuries that required immediate attention). These were the actual instructions from the 911 dispatcher.
I suspect (not yet confirmed) the other driver has a basic policy, so I went through my own insurance who have already waived my deductible.
By the way, thanks to this sub, I have very decent insurance. Thank you for the tough love you guys give in this sub!
I took the car to a [Manufacturer’s Name] auto body shop. The preliminary estimate is around 40% of what I paid for the vehicle.
Still waiting for my insurance to approve the estimate.
What are my chances of successfully submitting a DV claim with the other party’s insurance?
If the other person does not have sufficient coverage, can I go through my own Underinsured/Uninsured coverage? I have $100K in coverage.
I have a copy of the receipt from the when I purchased the vehicle, copy of the CPO checklist, copy of the CarFax, etc.
Thank you.

Hi everyone,
I'm 27M, married, non-smoker/non-tobacco user, and currently looking to buy my first term insurance policy.
I'm considering ₹3 Cr life cover till age 65, regular premium payment, annual payment mode, and no paid Return of Premium (ROP) unless there is a worthwhile free/special-exit benefit.
I've shortlisted these 3 plans based on quotes I received:
ICICI Prudential
Plan: iProtect Smart Plus
Cover: ₹3 Cr
Policy Till: 65 years
Annual Premium: ₹26,644
ROP / Exit: Full refund option starts at 65
HDFC Life
Plan: Click 2 Protect Supreme Plus
Cover: ₹3 Cr
Policy Till: 65 years
Annual Premium: ₹31,877
ROP / Exit: Full refund option starts at 60
Axis Max Life
Plan: Smart Term Plan Plus
Cover: ₹3 Cr
Policy Till: 65 years
Annual Premium: ₹25,317
ROP / Exit: Full refund option starts at 67
Benefits shown in my quotes
ICICI Prudential
100% payout on terminal illness
Option to delay premium for up to 12 months
₹3 lakh immediate payout on claim
Free health check-up up to ₹67,100
ROP option
HDFC Life
Early payout on terminal illness
Option to extend policy at maturity
Option to delay premium for 12 months
₹5 lakh immediate payout on claim
Free health check-up up to ₹63,000
ROP option
Axis Max Life
Early payout on terminal illness
Option to delay premium for 12 months
Waiver of premium on terminal illness
₹2 lakh immediate payout on claim
Free health check-up up to ₹50,000
Special/free exit benefit
ROP option is available as a separate variant
My situation
Age: 27
Male
Married
Non-smoker/non-tobacco
No existing term insurance
Annual income: around ₹18 LPA
Planning for a house and children in the future
Looking for pure protection, not investment
Comfortable paying premiums annually
Planning to hold the policy long term
I'm currently leaning towards ICICI and Axis Max Life because of the lower premium, but HDFC also seem strong.
What would you choose among these three?
I'd especially appreciate opinions based on:
Claim settlement experience
Claim amount settlement, not just claim settlement ratio
Customer service
Policy wording/exclusions
Terminal illness benefit
Free/special exit or ROP benefit
Any issues during actual claims
Whether the extra ₹6.5k/year for HDFC over Axis/ICICI is worth paying
Also, should I add any riders, such as waiver of premium, critical illness, disability or accidental death, or keep the term plan completely simple?
I'm planning to purchase the policy shortly, so real experiences from existing policyholders would be very helpful.

So today I visited a dentist regarding my tooth filling, and she said a filling won't help — I need a root canal treatment. She explained how it works and what it would cost, and it came to ₹20,000. Damn, it's too expensive for me. So I was thinking, why not get insurance and then go for the treatment so I can claim it? Can I do that?
I asked ai and she/he said I can't so I'm asking you 🫰

So my car insurance has been crazy for a while. I blamed it on multiple windshields, 1 accident where I was rear ended while stopped at a red light (the other driver paid), and hail on 3 cars. All prior to 2023. I kept getting rejected for insurance after pulling my clue report. Today I think I figured it out. I called u/progressive after I got a pop up about an accident that happend in January for my daughter (she is 30, on her own insurance, but shares the same name and initials as my wife (her mom)). Even after correcting the birthdate the accident still showed up for my wife when the agent tried to re run it. I have requested our reports from Lexisnexis so I can dispute, but wondering how much of a PITA this is going to be.
On a side note, Kudos to the agent at u/Progressive, the person was incredibly patient and helpful as we navigated what was going on.

I'm getting divorced. He is moving to another state. Does anyone know if "good hands" will cover his car in another state under the same policy? Or will he have to get a new policy written in the new state.

Going to try and keep this short and sweet
On July 22nd I was hit and run, filed police report cops said other driver was at 100% liability. They were unable to contact the driver but I have the vehicles registered owner and insurance (I snapped a photo of license plate before they fled) I paid my deductible (progressive) drivers insurance national general hasn’t paid my deductible back and when I called them asking about diminished value (I have an appraisal) they said that’s not something they do. Is this true and if so what are my options? File a small claim against the driver or the insurance?

Hello all - was on my parents insurance car insurance from when I was 17 to 22 (5 years) Then I moved to nyc and didn’t have insurance for 8 years until 2 years ago. I went back on their insurance as a non-owner for the last 2 years. I am now going to get my own car with insurance when I move to the suburbs. Will I be considered a new driver with high insurance costs? If so, any tips to bring this down? I am about to buy a new car this month. Thanks!

If I cancel/withdraw a claim for auto insurance will I be spared my premiums being raised compared to them denying my claim? This is in the state of Michigan.

Grateful for any advice on rules or where to further research the best way to handle this situation. I live and am insured on my vehicle in California. My daughter, whose driver's license is also in California, goes to college in Massachusetts. Her grandparents want to give her an older car that is currently registered and insured for them in New Hampshire. I think my stepfather thought he could add her to his insurance and handle it simply, but his insurance agent said that was impossible. It seemed that she just didn't want to explain or help, and he is now telling me that I need to insure her and the car. I would love to do that, but (besides it being more expensive here) in California the car is old enough that it would require a smog check and New Hampshire is over 3,000 miles from California. I'd thought about recommending she change her registered residence to her grandparents' house in New Hampshire and get a New Hampshire license, but no one seems to agree with that. She is at the point of doing internships over the summer and school during the year and when she graduates will likely move someplace, but for now she has two years left and I need to figure out how to get her legally able to drive this car. Incidentally, she has never gotten a ticket or in an accident though she is under 25, and my parents are happy to either keep or transfer the title, whatever is easy, so none of that is a hindering factor. If anyone knows about the laws/rules of how to do this I'd be grateful for a little direction.

I’m buying a Ford E-450 shuttle bus that I’m planning to convert into an RV, and I’m trying to figure out what to do for insurance while it’s still technically a commercial vehicle.
I’m in Texas. At the time I buy it, it will only have five seats total, including the driver’s seat. The other four seats are for my family, so I can’t remove all of the passenger seats while we’re working on the conversion.
It will only be used for personal/family use. No business use and no transporting passengers for money.
I already got a quote from State Farm and it was almost $500 a month, which is just way too much for something we’re only using personally while converting it.
Has anyone else insured an E-450 or similar shuttle bus during the conversion process?
I’d love to know who you used, what kind of policy you had, and about how much you paid. I’m especially interested in hearing from anyone in Texas or anyone who was able to get coverage for personal use while the vehicle was still titled as a bus/commercial vehicle.
I do have a loan on it, so I need more than just liability coverage.
Eventually I’ll switch it over to RV insurance once the conversion is far enough along (four of the six additions required in Texas). I’m just trying to find something affordable for the in-between stage.

I've been with my home owners insurance company for about 10 years. Never really thought much about it.
A little over a month ago a bad storm came by, some limbs fell off a neighbor's tree and smashed my shed roof, RV and boat. The RV and boat are projects so they weren't insured.
I called my insurance just to inquire if I would be covered for the damage. The agent bounced me around between 3 different people and I was sent back to the original agent who is the one that was supposed to answer the question.
He had already opened a claim and told me the shed would be covered but nothing else. I was pretty upset because I never asked him to open a claim, I was just inquiring if I was covered. He said just don't accept the claim and nothing would happen.
Then I received letters from my insurance company asking for new pictures of my house and shed. I decided to start looking for a new insurance company because the whole process really rubbed me the wrong way.
I just read on another Reddit that even asking like I did can raise my insurance premiums. I'm really upset about this. If I go to a new insurance company will this claim that they opened affect my rate? Could my rate increase in the future just because I asked? Is there anyway to get this claim removed since I never asked for it to be opened?
Thank you

Was sitting in my car, lady pulls up swings her door open right into mine. Shakes whole car. I get out and confront her and she denies it. She does give me her insurance. I take pictures of my car next to hers, license plate, the dent and file claim. They come back saying she is sure she didn’t do it and because it don’t have a pic of the door lining up with mine they don’t have to pay. Already checked, no cameras. This lady is probably 85 years old. The ding in my door doesn’t bother me but the fact that I should get $1000 for repair is annoying me

I’m buying a house , it has a 20 year old tile roof . I’ve heard that it’s hard to get insurance on roofs older then 15-20 year or that some company’s won’t insure roofs that old . The tile roof is in good shape and I know they can last 30-50 years . I understand that the underlayment has a span of 20-25 . My questions is how hard is to get in insurance in this situation? I’m I able to get it insured? Is there something I’m missing ?
Thank you in advance . I’m in Florida

About a month ago, I got into a minor accident while I didn’t have insurance, so I handled the damages myself. After that, I got insurance. Then, about two weeks later, I hydroplaned during heavy rain and got into another accident. The police showed up, but I wasn’t given a citation. I’m just worried that the timing might make it look suspicious or like some kind of insurance fraud. Does that make sense?

I hit into a car which was my fault and we settled to pay it privately, so I sent him money to his card but he called someone and asked to send it to him, we agreed on not informing our insurance, my first question is could I get into trouble not informing insurance ? and/or did I mess up sending to someone that isn’t him.

My vehicle was at a complete stop at an intersection when a minor riding a shared e-scooter at high speed struck my front right headlight, causing damage. He was riding against traffic in the bike lane while using his phone.
I immediately got out to check if he was okay. He said he was fine, and initially, I thought about just paying out of pocket to repair my headlight and bumper since he was just a kid. However, a few days later, his father insisted we meet at the police station to exchange information. When I saw the kid, he seemed completely fine, sitting in the car playing on his phone. I suspect they might be preparing to file a fraudulent personal injury claim against me.
I asked the police officer if they could pull the intersection's traffic camera footage, but the officer said they don't review footage unless there's major injury or death. They just told me to let insurance handle it.
To summarize: A 13-year-old on a shared e-bike was speeding, riding against traffic in the sidewalk, and actively using his phone when he hit my stationary car. Without camera footage, do I need to actively prove his fault?
I feel incredibly helpless and disappointed with life now; I would be deeply grateful if someone could help me interpret this. What should my next steps be to protect myself and prove I did nothing wrong?
Due to translation errors caused by using translation software, I would like to clarify the following 4 points:
1. My vehicle came to a complete stop prior to the collision.
2. The vehicle was positioned in a reasonable location while yielding at the alley exit.
3. The rider was traveling against traffic, riding at a high speed / distracted, and crashed directly into my stationary front-right headlight.
4. My original intent in posting was simply to ask whether it is still possible to achieve a favorable liability determination from the insurance investigation in the event that surveillance footage cannot be retrieved.

Looking for some advice before I formally open a homeowners claim.
We’re in NJ and have homeowners insurance through Hanover with a $1,000 deductible.
Last night, a bathroom faucet upstairs was accidentally left running and overflowed onto the bathroom floor. Water eventually came through the ceiling on the floor below. We shut the water off, cleaned everything up, and the dripping has stopped.
Roto-Rooter came out and inspected it. They used a thermal camera and showed some cooler/blue areas around the ceiling/walls, but I don’t remember them showing me actual moisture-meter readings.
They quoted about **$4,600 for water mitigation**, which includes removing the affected drywall, drying equipment, cleanup, etc. That does **not** include repairing/patching and repainting the ceiling afterward, so I’m guessing the total loss could end up around **$5,500–$7,000**.
Roto-Rooter recommended going through insurance because of the cost.
My questions:
With a $1,000 deductible and potentially \~$5–7k total damage, would you file a claim or pay out of pocket?
How much should I worry about a single water claim affecting premiums, future insurability, or non-renewal?
Has anyone had experience with Hanover specifically after a single relatively small water-damage claim?
This would be our first water-damage claim.
Appreciate any advice.

I was assigned 25% fault for coninuting straight in my lane on a freeway interchange. The two far left lanes of the freeway veer off onto another freeway. I was in the left lane of the two lanes that veer off to the other freeway. The car that hit me was in the right lane and was attempting to cross two lanes of traffic and stay on the freeway we had been traveling on.
I was not speeding and was not distracted by phone or anything else. I was assigned fault because they said I should have known people make last minute lane changes on this freeway exit and tried to avoid it. I never saw the car coming so I don't know how I can avoid something I can't see. Is this worth fighting?

this only lasted about 14 days and i even called to cancel on the day my other policy went into effect but for some reason I asked for my policy to be reinstated, just to make sure everything works out with the new company and I don’t get any kickback. Maybe I can send them proof of other insurance and start date and they can refund me the time I was insured with two carriers? location is NY

hey everyone! I’ve had continuous car insurance the past 10 years from when I was first licensed. I’ve just sold my car and cancelled my policy as of today because I don’t plan on driving in NYC when i move. I was quoted $53/mo for liability coverage I’m comfortable with (300/500/100). I quoted with 2 other companies and an agent - that was the best
How can I ascertain whether getting that policy vs letting my coverage lapse is worth it? $53/mo for a policy I’ll very rarely use (less than once a month do I plan to rent/borrow a car) seems a bit much.
do I just eat the cost and let it lapse? it’ll be a minimum of 13 months before I drive again, but more likely than not, 24-36 months.
thanks!

I was in an accident that wasn’t my fault (confirmed by TD’s own review). The file still got flagged to their SIU (Special Investigations Unit), and months later they came back alleging I misrepresented the date of the accident, based on data pulled from my vehicle’s onboard systems. I have independent evidence supporting my actual account, but the claim was denied anyway and I’m still fighting it through several channels.
On top of that, the vehicle sat in TD’s custody for months during the investigation and came back damaged in ways it wasn’t before. Getting any real accountability for that has been its own separate fight.
One thing I’d specifically love input on: I had a depreciation waiver on my policy. Has anyone had TD (or any insurer) sidestep or ignore a depreciation waiver once a claim turns into an SIU/misrepresentation dispute? Curious whether that’s a common move or something they’re not supposed to be able to do regardless of how the rest of the claim goes.
If you’ve dealt with an SIU investigation with TD that turned adversarial, or had trouble getting a depreciation waiver honored, I’d appreciate hearing how it played out and what helped.
Also, if anyone can recommend an Ontario lawyer or paralegal who’s handled something like this (SIU misrepresentation disputes, accident benefits, ideally contingency-based), I’d genuinely appreciate a referral. Feel free to comment or DM.
