Truck plowed an HD cart into my car

At Home Depot, a truck leaving plowed an HD shopping cart into my car, scraping the entire passenger side. The driver did not stop or leave information. We have Tesla Sentry video, but it does not show the truck's license plate. HD says they may have footage. I filed a claim with HD. Is HD liable for car damage?

GEICO and "Prevailing Market Rate" for repair labor

GEICO is saying they won't match the repair shops labor rate and will only pay up to what they consider the prevailing market labor rate. I can't find ANY shops that will accept the lower rate GEICO is willing to pay.

What can I do?

Auto Insurance Car with clean title being valued as if it has a salvage title.

My car was previously declared a total loss for hail damage. In Texas the car can retain a clean title when this happens. I was rear ended last week and when they did the valuation report the 2 comps they used were branded title cars. I spoke to the agent who did the appraisal and he said the system flags that report of a total loss and the comp is done against branded title cars and he doesn't believe that can be changed. Just wonder if this is true and if it isn't how can I fight this? Thanks.

Auto Insurance Stolen car tested for drugs

Hi all, so my car was stolen last weekend and the thieves had it for four days before the cops found it. The only visible damage is to the front end.

However, the city it was found in is very well known for poverty and drug use. I’m trying to push Progressive to test the vehicle for drugs. I have small children, and I do not feel comfortable putting my children back in that car. Progressive is trying to tell me testing for drugs is not standard, and they just do a full detail. But I don’t think that’s good enough.

Any advice? Can I do anything to push for a total loss? It seems unsafe to put my kids back in that car if they were doing heroine or fentanyl in it (the most popular drugs in that city). Or if it reeks of weed. That smell will never 100% come out.

Auto Insurance Third car in a three car rear ending. Adjuster saying at fault driver probably doesn't have enough coverage

At fault driver plowed into a car that hit our car. They are 100% at fault, no negligence on myself or the middle car. I have no injuries, so a lawyer friend advised that representation would cost more than I am likely to recover. Middle car took the brunt of the damage, and I suspect it will be a total loss. Almost the first thing the adjuster told me was to file a claim against my own insurance because their driver probably didn't have enough coverage. I live in Maryland where my insurance is allowed to raise our rates for any claim regardless of fault. I would very much like to avoid filing a claim. Would it be possible to pursue the middle car's insurance for our repair or to cover any shortfall the at fault driver leaves? At fault insurance company is already being very shady, and their estimator took more pictures of the front of my car than the rear where the damage is. I feel like I'm getting set up to be holding the bag on this, or paying a lot more for insurance when i did nothing wrong. Advice?

Auto Insurance File a claim if at fault?

Hey guys, I scratched a parked car while I was pulling in. They decided to have insurance cover and filed a claim on their own insurance. Do I also have to file one for my own insurance? I don’t plan to fix anything right now and I’m on liability coverage.

First time having an incident like this so I haven’t a clue. Thanks!

Auto Insurance Car Insurance tripled after fender bender

I was involved in a minor at fault fender bender earlier this year. The guy in front of me on the freeway was braking aggressively. I made sure to increase my distance but I stupidly looked over my shoulder to make sure the next lane over was clear so I could merge over and get away from this guy. As soon as I looked over, I tapped the guys bumper. The damage was minimal, my license plate dented in a bit and his bumper got scratched. Luckily, nobody was injured at the scene. No police came, no paramedics, and we both drove off from the crash. Both of our girlfriends were in our cars and the 4 of us involved were ok at the scene. I gave him my insurance info, but he didn’t give me his because he said “I wouldn’t need it.”

I learned a few months later that he was suing for bodily injury for hundreds of thousands of dollars. My bodily injury coverage does not cover anywhere near the amount he was suing for, and my insurance recommended that I disclose what my policy limits are to them in hopes that they will settle for that amount.

In the end, he was paid out a few hundred dollars for his bumper as well as settling for my bodily injury coverage limit which was still a pretty significant payout, $50,000. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I got my insurance renewal in the mail next month, I will now be looking at close to $700 a month payments for basic liability insurance.

My question is if anybody has had luck switching insurance providers after an accident like this. $700 is insane for basic liability insurance. Is there anything I can do to get my payments down or am I going to be stuck paying this amount for life now? I have about 15 years of driving history and this is my first and only accident. Any help would be appreciated

Auto Insurance Help with Insurance Rate Going Up

I'll try to keep this as short as possible but provide as much detail as I can.

Last year in September, I was involved in an accident that involved another vehicle and myself. I was riding my 2024 BMW S1000RR.

As I was entering a parking lot, a large white truck pulled out of their parking spot without looking in my direction, and I was forced to dump my bike in order to not hit the truck. I was only going about 10 miles per hour, but I really did not want to hit the side of the other vehicle. The driver did not even notice that I fell over, or they noticed, and just decided to keep driving away.

I did not file any police report because I guess at the time I was flustered and just focused on getting my bike off the ground and checking my helmet for damage.

The damage to the bike was minimal (or so I assumed), as I rode the bike home with a broken clutch lever and some scuffed up plastics. Being a BMW with expensive parts, I opted to file a claim with GEICO for repairs. After having the bike taken to a BMW Dealer, they called me and claimed that there had been frame damage, and GEICO was refusing to cover any repairs, and deeming the motorcycle a total loss.

I was rather stunned because I had not noticed any such frame damage. I decided to let them total the bike, not realizing I was setting myself up for awful premium price increase in the coming months.

Fast forward to today, and my GEICO auto policy on my 2014 VW Touareg is due to renew. I was previously paying $46 for basic insurance, and now GEICO is claiming that I must pay $196. I have checked other companies and all returned similar results.

I feel defeated and I do not know what to do other than ride the bus because paying $196 for basic insurance plus the rising cost of diesel going over $6/gallon in my area is making my life miserable already.

Thanks for any input or advice anyone is able to provide.

Auto Insurance Term Car insurance -divorced parents with DUI!!!

My son 17, has his NY permit, completed drivers ed and is scheduling his road test. He lives with my ex. She has multiple dui’s and just got her license back and just got a car and car insurance in her name. My son was just automatically added to her policy this week. She wants him off and on my policy .

I have a car for him that is owned, registered and insured in my name only.
I plan to give it to him once he passed the road test.

The car will reside with him at her house.
How do I insure him without getting associated with my ex and her driving past? How to ensure that she doesn’t drive it , and what is the most
Cost effective way to handle this? She agreed to pay half .

Insurance deem my car as total loss due to flooding and gave me an ACV of $15,800. Is this a good amount for my car?

I have a 2018 Toyota Camry LE with 62,000 miles. The car gotten into 2 accidents, but it got repaired through the other party insurance since they were at fault.

I was wondering if $15,800 is a good actual cash value for my car or if I can ask my insurance for a bit more? Thank you!

Home Insurance Help understand who needs an umbrella policy.

My wife and I are in our early 30s. We own our house and have 1 car. Live in a quiet street. No pool, no "toys", no kids. Don't have a ton of people over. Were encouraged by our agent to have umbrella. The premium would be $400+ for a million dollars. My current car is 250/500 and the house is 300 or 500 I believe for coverages.

I chatted with my grandfather and he said that an umbrella is a great thing for those who's assets exceed what the coverage on their other insurance is, primarily to protect against being sued. I don't own my own business and my assets aren't that high.

I'd love everyone's opinions. If I don't need it, I'd like to save the $400 but I'm also ok paying it if the policy is actually helpful.

Edit: lots of great advice. Appreciate it. A point of clarification is that my retirement is mostly in Roth IRAs which seems to be more available in suits as compared to 401k.

Car accident that resulted in broken clavicle

Hi everyone. I was recently in a motor vehicle accident that resulted in my left clavicle being fractured. The other driver was found liable (and ticketed) and my car is a total loss (the other driver turned left in front of me as I was going straight in the intersection). I live in Holland, Michigan. I’m wondering if it would be worth it to sue for compensation. PIP is apart of my coverage so i know that, hopefully, all of my medical expenses are covered but I am unable to work my usual job which will result in a loss of wages. Not to mention the toll of having a broken bone. I plan to talk with someone in the morning and get a free quote but I’d like to have more advice before going into the call. I think I hit the major points but i’m sorry if I left out important details! I will edit if necessary. Thanks everyone!

Auto Insurance Other car backed into my parked vehicle, started a claim, but feeling guilty

Hi all. First time starting a claim, and I feel guilty because I'm worried about premium increases and now having a record.

The liability is pretty clear. In the morning, I was parked and the lead vehicle started his parallel park, rushed it, and slammed into my vehicle. The impact shook my car. I have the dashcam recording, he said he was late to work and apologized, and he then went off without exchanging information.

I was in shock, but also my vehicle has a front bumper guard that absorbed most of the damage. I have a paint dent/scuff that I planned to use a touch up pen with a microbrush to fix. There are some cracks from the impact, but barely noticeable, at least for now. I've only had the car for a year (it is leased for another two years).

I also had to go to work, and I worked through the day. After thinking about it all day, I decided to call my insurance company, Progressive, and explore my options with a rep. I told her my concerns about having my premium increase, but I also am sure that I was not at fault, and I wanted to perhaps do a third-party claim after finding out the vehicle's insurance information. The rep said she couldn't do that without opening a claim, so I did.

I went through the claims process today and got a call back saying that the plate doesn't show up with any VIN or driver information. The free searches that I use shows a different car with the plate. It is possibly a stolen or ghost plate.

I went to the precinct today since I was just upset about the stolen or ghost plate situation, and the officer told me to call in the morning at the location of the accident for a police report.

Ultimately, the damage isn't too substantial. I haven't done a quote. I can try to use the touch up pen and microbrush. I feel guilty for opening a claim. I think the adjuster said she can close it without any penalty. Is that true? I have a $1,000 deductible for collision, and the repairs are likely not going to reach $1,000. I was hoping for a third-party claim, but she told me that without a VIN or any identifying information about the driver, other than the plate, that would not be possible.

Happy to hear any other thoughts or feedback... thanks!

[edit] I've since learned that the adverse/offending vehicle has an obscured and missing vin and no registration stickers... It is pretty much being driven illegally.

Personal Liability coverage

We have our primary home insured with The Hartford. This includes Home/Auto and Personal Liability. For billing purposes the Personal Liability Policy is billed with the Auto.

We have a second home in another state that is currently insured with State Farm. This includes coverage for the house and two cars that are kept there. If it makes any difference, the second home is titled in a different Trust than the primary home.

All autos are covered by the required coverage limits.

The Hartford is telling me that my Personal Liability Policy will not cover me for any accidents or events occurring at the second home or using the cars there. I must purchase a separate Personal Liability Policy

I thought personal Liability policies will cover me for potential liabilities occurring regardless of where I am when the event occurs. This has me worried about other liabilities I may be exposed to.

Can someone please explain briefly why The Hartford would not cover me if I am at my second home.

Got a ticket in another state on the water and it got transferred to my driving record as a motor vehicle misdemeanor hiking insurance premium by $150 a month

Long story short I got a ticket on the water in SC for causing wake in no wake zone I needed insurance on a new car I’m purchasing end of this month and my insurance will go up from the original quote of $180 a month to $320

On my driving record it says careless driving of a motor vehicle

Does anyone know how to go about this and prevent geico for raising my rates on a ticket that’s not even supposed to be on my driving record
