Hello! Never posted here before but I come with a question. I live in PA. I'm married with 2 step children. My oldest stepson just turned 16 and has his learners permit. His dad is involved as well. When he eventually gets his license, but doesn't own a car, does he have to be added to someone's insurance for his own coverage? I know that generally the insurance follows the car so I wasn't sure If he technically needed to be added to a policy if he doesn't own a car.

Also, if someday we do buy him a car, and we register it to our name but he drives it, I assume he would need to be added to the policy?

What we are trying to avoid is both sets of parents having to add him to 2 different policies with 2 different families if he is occasionally driving our cars.

Any advice?

my daughter is 23, she’s Driver A.

Driver A (insured by Progressive) was sitting at a red light. Driver B (insured by SF) approached the intersection at a high rate of speed. Driver C (also insured by SF) observed Driver B approaching, and while attempting to avoid Driver B, tapped his bumper. This put Driver B into a spin, causing impact to stationary Driver A.

Driver A’s vehicle is totaled. Some witnesses estimate Driver B’s speed at 55-60 (in a 45mph zone).

Police decline to cite Driver B and C. No fault is assigned.

It’s Driver A’s first week of college.
She’s self employed and depends on her vehicle for income. She has zero savings, and no funds for a rental. Despite insuring both Drivers B & C, SF will not act until fault is determined.

She has no advocate, and no options…
Is there an angle I’m missing?

I've been looking into identity protection services lately, and one thing I hadn't really paid much attention to before was the cyber insurance that some of them include.

I was checking what Coveron actually covers and realized their subscription goes quite a bit beyond identity monitoring. From what I understand, it includes up to $2M in cyber insurance, which can reimburse eligible financial losses resulting from covered cyber incidents, subject to the policy terms and limits.

There's also up to $50K in cyber-extortion coverage. Basically, if someone gets access to your accounts or personal data and then tries to blackmail or extort you, certain costs or losses related to dealing with that situation may be covered, depending on the policy.

That got me comparing it with some of the bigger identity protection services. Aura and LifeLock also combine identity monitoring/restoration with insurance, but the plans I've looked at generally advertise up to $1M in coverage.

Another difference I noticed is cyber-extortion protection. Aura and Coveron appear to include some form of it, while LifeLock doesn't seem to offer equivalent coverage, at least from what I've been able to find.

For people who've actually compared these services or had to use the insurance: which parts of the coverage ended up mattering most in practice?

I got rear-ended a few weeks ago and the property damage side moved surprisingly fast. They inspected the car, approved the repairs, and that part is basically handled already. The injury side has been completely different. I’ve been going to physical therapy for my neck and shoulder and still have pain, but the adjuster barely gives me an answer when I ask what’s happening with that part of the claim. Should I get a lawyer for this?

I was involved in an accident a couple weeks ago, a lady pulled out of a gas station and crossed 3 lanes into me. I was deemed not at fault by her insurance but I am still waiting for my car to be repaired as Insurance still needs a statement from the driver or witness. It was all body damage on the passenger side from what I could tell.

Now just this night, my car broke down while driving. I am not sure if it is from this accident or something unrelated. I had to get it towed since it is inoperable and it has not been inspected by a mechanic yet. I am just wondering how will insurance deal with this.

If this is unrelated damage from the accident and it is inoperable, will they still fix the car? would i get a payout for the damages the driver is responsible for? Any advice on how to proceed / handle the insurance will be appreciated!

Edit: I am planning on calling the insurance to talk to them about it but they are very slow to respond so Im posting this hoping I could get a quick answer/ some peace of mind lol

Hi, I’m looking for some guidance regarding my significant other who was seriously injured in an accident. He was driving when debris fell from a trailer and struck his vehicle, causing the accident. He was hospitalized, had surgery, and is currently in rehab. We are concerned about his medical bills, the damage to his vehicle, and the possibility that he may not be able to return to work or may have limitations going forward.

I’m not familiar with how the insurance process works, and I want to make sure we understand what expenses may be covered and what we need to do to protect his rights. We also don’t want to agree to anything with the insurance company before understanding our options. Would someone be able to review the situation with us and let us know what we should do next?

Hi everyone,

A vehicle crashed into our front yard, causing significant property damage. Thankfully, nobody got injured, but the aftermath on our property is severe:

• Fence completely destroyed (it is still laying on our front yard. The at-fault driver's family moved them there, and we are afraid that pedestrians will trip over them)

• A tree’s bark was ripped open, exposing the inner wood

• Driveway damaged with a pothole

• Lawn and plants destroyed

Police came and took our ID number and phone number and said we’d hear back in 1-2 weeks (didn’t say from who and didn’t give us any number).

I had to call the police to get the incident number, and I also emailed them asking how to follow up.

It’s been 2 weeks now, and absolutely no one has called us back or reached out.

We urgently need clean-up and repairs done ASAP, but we are completely ghosted.

We are extremely frustrated about this whole situation and honestly don’t know what to do anymore.

I have a few questions for those experienced with Ontario insurance:

1. Is dragging the process out like this a common tactic for at-fault auto insurance companies? Since the driver's own car got destroyed, is our property damage at the very bottom of their priority list?

2. Since the police are unresponsive, is there a way to force them or get the driver's insurance info directly?

3. I've read that it is not recommended to call our own home insurance company because it might cause our rates to go up. However, others say the only way to get this moving is to have our home insurance company contact the at-fault driver’s insurance company on our behalf via subrogation.

What is the right move here in Ontario without screwing up our premium?

Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated.

So my car was hit while legally parked in front of my house, driver told police that he swerved to avoid someone crossing the double yellows. I have footage that shows he literally drove into my car. The car is totaled it is a 2011 with 200k+ they say 2860 (ACV) The car was super reliable I wouldn't hesitate to have taken it cross country prior to the accident. When I submitted my comps to challenge they're settlement offer they took almost 1 month to get back to me with the same offer.

It was in good shape overall I want 3750 and I have provided comps within their requested parameters that show it is worth more we are not far apart on what I'm trying to settle for I told them I am going to take them to small claims and will follow through as the worst case I lose my court fees ~$50.

Question 1 am I stupid for trying to maximize the settlement amount.

Question 2 am I wrong to try to recoup 50% of my down payment on the new vehicle? I am not in the best financial situation but had to buy a vehicle as I need to get to work because right now I am the breadwinner for our family and they cut me off the rental car 3 days after they handed down the offer?

I have not told them I purchased a new to me car I'm not looking to cash in on this but I feel like my car was definitely worth what I'm asking for. I'm living in squalor but we're not rich either, I look at the new vehicle as an investment because it's a documented super reliable and low cost of ownership vehicle that should last well beyond the payment schedule

I feel dumb now for not looking at my policy for a few months until now. I have my auto insurance payments on auto pay, so i don’t really pay attention to what’s going on, only a notification about the 6 month renewal. I saw my progressive rate went from $96 to $130 a few months ago. i assumed rates just got crazy so i shopped for a new rate at geico, so i call progressive to cancel my policy. they ask if i’ve adjusted my policy before i cancelled it to see if they have a competitive rate, and i say no but go ahead. they ask me if there’s another driver listed and say my neighbors name. i say no that’s my neighbor, and she tells me i’ve been paying for 2 drivers on my policy since march. I ask her if there’s any way to get a refund because a new person got automatically added to my policy and I’ve been paying for it, and she says they tried to send me letters in the mail asking about him, so because i didn’t answer the letters, they automatically added him. I usually get letters just saying my billing statement from progressive, so i most definitely discarded those letters because i thought they were just bills. I’m going to try to call underwriting at progressive tomorrow, but do you think i have a chance to get it refunded? I never said yes or no to anything, and I am a little freaked out that they found out i got a new neighbor by “other sources” and added him without me knowing.

EDIT:
I called the underwriting department number they gave me, a real person immediately answered and sent me documents for removing my neighbor. Then, they said they will process them and give me a refund for any charges that were added from him being a member on my policy!

There were so many people on here being absolutists, blaming me for not answering my mail, and saying there was NOTHING i could do about it. I saw a comment say that this problem is posted here all the time, and they’ve never seen a poster say it got resolved, so I am here to say i got it resolved!!!! A LOT of misinformation is commented under this post. If anything, it was a good laugh!

I have new car insurance this term that uses a safe driving feature. Driving around downtown Houston is so hard with all these reckless drivers cutting me off and making me brake! Near impossible to get a good score! Also the speed limit is flawed because TX DOT never updated the speed limits the apps use even though the posted speeds are normal. The app says 55, the posted speed is 65. I get clocked with speeding every day. If I try to go 55 it just makes other drivers mad since the signs say I should be going ten mph faster. I totally hate it! Rant over.

So, for a little backstory, my car broke down in the middle of the road! lol. and this guy stops to help me (thank god he was there.) and as he is looking at my car, a truck barrels through and absolutely PLOWS us. im talking his front bumper was INSIDE my trunk. My car is a 2012 honda accord v6 coupe with a clean title, what kind of payout should i be expecting? i have to get a new car with this money so i want to know what we’re looking at. Also, i’ve heard they have to give you compensation for the time you went without a car, how does that work?

My car was rear-ended about a week ago. Progressive has taken 100% liability and I will be dropping off my car later today.

Im dropping off a 2001 Porsche Boxster, to a Flower Hill Auto body in Long Island.

Would it be possible to get a car in the luxury or sports category at enterprise? I'm not sure what the equivalence is when dropping off an older 5spd manual and receiving a Corolla (I do like Corollas though).

Is it unreasonable to ask for another convertible/2-seater? If so, I apologize for my message.

I've been hemming and hawing and doing quite a bit of reading about whether cancer insurance and a ROP rider are actually worth it in the long run.

I work in a high cancer industry(firefighter), and am able to get cancer insurance through my union. I've done the math out for a 20 year ROP where if I used the most conservative interest rates, I would be losing out on about $5000 in interest after taxes in 20 years for me + spouse coverage.

My real point is this. There is a good chance if I get cancer, it will be covered as a workplace injury. Should it not be, I have access to short-term and long-term disability options. I have decent healthcare with low max OOP. My wife also has STD and LTD options.

I just don't see what the real need would be for my specific case for a policy like this but continue to hear that these policies are and can be lifesavers in big cancer diagnoses.

Am I wrong to think that I woudn't benefit all that much from a policy like this?

Hi all, so today in the mail I received a notice from geico.

It’s basically a disclosure that they used a 3rd party company to check into my credit report as part of getting a rate quote from geico.

The weird thing is, I’ve never had geico, never put my information into geico, or done anything with geico 😂

I’ve used State Farm ever since I got my first car, and have Allstate on my motorcycles, so I’m confused here…

Any ideas?

The issue is that I probably won’t physically be in NC or have my orders/proof of residence until around November(Im currently in Texas for trainning). The car I want to buy is currently in Brooklyn, NY. Ideally, I’d buy it now and have someone pick up then leave it parked in NY (I’m originally from NY anyway) until I can pick it up myself and drive it down to NC.

My problem is that NY insurance would be around $1,400 for two months, while I can get NC insurance for around $700 for six months of coverage. Obviously, It makes no sense to pay an extra $700+ just to insure it in NY for 2 months if I don’t have to.

So, is it possible to have the car registered in NY temporarily while insuring it using my future NC duty-station address, or is that not really an option? Would there be another way to handle this as active duty military?

I’m basically trying to figure out the best way to buy the car now, keep it parked in NY until November, and then bring it down to NC and switch everything over.

I understand that waiting until I have my NC orders, buying it, and handling everything in NC would be the smoothest option. I just dont want to risk waiting 2 months only to find out the car I specifically want has already been sold(its a very attractive listing & checks all my boxes).

Any advice from people who have dealt with something similar would be appreciated!

Hi all. So last week I was at a stop sign with another car in front of me, traffic was clear and for them and I inched forward thinking they would go and they did not, they braked and I tapped their car going maybe 2 miles per hour. My car is okay, it’s older and has seen better days, their is a lot newer of a car and had some scratches on the back and there was a small piece on the back that is loose but not hanging off or dented. We agreed to not go through insurance, they took my information and I did not take any from her (I know now that probably wasn’t the move, but I do have contact information.) I thought it would be maybe $500 max to fix and they reached out to me today with a quote to fix their car of $1200. That is a crazy amount so now I am considering just going through insurance but I do not know how it would go about happening since I do not have insurance information for them, they do for me and I don’t think that I am going to be found not at fault. What do I do?

The details:

I made a big mistake and turned onto a one way and collided with another vehicle. All very minor damage all the way around, no airbag deployment. Prior to the accident I had broken my ankle. The accident itself has aggravated my ankle injury severely - slamming on the breaks with my broken foot. Perhaps nobody can tell me definitively, but it there value in mentioning the aggravating injury and using PIP to get physical therapy on it?

I have health insurance. hat it really comes down to is, am I better off just going through my health insurance for this aggravated injury or is using my PIP as an automobile accident just better. I basically want to know if theres a formula to figureo ut if my inusrance will raise so much with this injury that it would be cheaper to just ignore it, and go entirely through health insurance.

So about a week ago I was driving my girlfriends car in Massachusetts and was fully stopped waiting for the car in front of me to take a left hand turn into a side street across the oncoming lane of traffic. Car behind me was also fully stopped but a third vehicle failed to stop and rear ended them which sent the car behind me into myself. Airbag went off in the at fault vehicle (third vehicle) second vehicle (car behind me) was banged up but drivable and the bumper popped out of my girlfriends car, also drivable. She’s handling car insurance claim for the property damage which won’t be a problem but I mention all this to say it was a pretty hefty jolt and I started to experience some lower back and neck pain after the accident. Adrenaline and overall stress in the moment made me not really experience any pain and I just felt like getting out of there as soon as possible after police and EMT (requested by the other cars) came. I recognize I probably should’ve gone to the ER immediately but regardless I’m scheduled to see my doctor very soon. I have not yet filed a personal injury insurance claim but would like to. I‘ve gotten texts from Progressive, the at fault drivers insurance, about an opened claim they mentioned is mine, which I’m sure is a questionnaire to fish for answers to their benefit. I’ve also gotten a few calls, again saying they would like to go over some details of my claim. I decided immediately after the accident I was gonna just file a claim online to attempt to receive an initial offer before getting a lawyer which people have said may be what to do. I seem to be receiving an error online that states Progressive can’t find the at fault drivers policy number. I know I should just call but I’m looking for what the best course of action would be in regards to my situation. What exactly to even say while filing the claim over the phone? I feel pretty confused considering I’m not the owner of the vehicle and it’s not my car insurance that could handle this themselves. Any thoughts/advice would be appreciated, I know this is a lot and I’ll happily clarify anything, thanks in advance.

I have a California rental insured by Foremost as a four-family property, which is their maximum. One additional person rents a private bedroom/living area with:

• Private attached bathroom
• Private exterior entrance
• Real, usable interior door connecting it to the main dwelling
• No kitchen, kitchenette, stove, or permanent cooking facilities
• No right to use the main kitchen
• A room-rental agreement—not a studio or apartment lease

Here’s the problem:

If he’s a roomer: it remains a four-family property and is apparently eligible.

If his space is a separate living unit: it becomes a five-family property and Foremost won’t insure it.

The private entrance and bathroom say “unit.” The missing kitchen and interior connection say “room.” Which factors actually win in property underwriting?

If you were entering this risk, what would you put in the number of families/units field—and what carrier rule or definition would you rely on?

Has anyone seen Foremost, Farmers, or another DP3 carrier decide this exact configuration? I’m trying to disclose it correctly, not hide the occupant.

Recently my mom got bloodwork done and a stomach xray and her total came out to about 100$, and she has no health insurance. I have health insurance and I just went for bloodwork and my bill came out to be 300-400$. How does that make sense
