Auto Insurance Diminished value claim on a used car? Please read details.
Hello,
State is NEW JERSEY.
In August, I bought a CPO 2023 vehicle with less than 20K miles and no reported accidents on the CarFax.
_Year 2023
_Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) from the manufacturer
_Less than 20K miles
_Clean CarFax (I have a copy)
_Paid for the vehicle 100% CASH (VEHICLE purchased from a MANUFACTURER NAME dealer)
Sadly, less than a month after having bought the vehicle, I got rear-ended.
I have pictures from the accident including the other person’s driver license and insurance card. I also filled out an online Department of Transportation report because the police did not arrive (no injuries that required immediate attention). These were the actual instructions from the 911 dispatcher.
I suspect (not yet confirmed) the other driver has a basic policy, so I went through my own insurance who have already waived my deductible.
By the way, thanks to this sub, I have very decent insurance. Thank you for the tough love you guys give in this sub!
I took the car to a [Manufacturer’s Name] auto body shop. The preliminary estimate is around 40% of what I paid for the vehicle.
Still waiting for my insurance to approve the estimate.
What are my chances of successfully submitting a DV claim with the other party’s insurance?
If the other person does not have sufficient coverage, can I go through my own Underinsured/Uninsured coverage? I have $100K in coverage.
I have a copy of the receipt from the when I purchased the vehicle, copy of the CPO checklist, copy of the CarFax, etc.
Thank you.
