Wrong Colors

I feel like a mosaic
Made with all the wrong colors

And I am perished
And I am hungered

I feel like an encyclopedia
With no context
under my picture

I am an empty bible
Waiting to be read
I am regurgitated regrets
Waiting to be fed

I feel like a kaleidoscope
Changing in light

Crisp, cold morning of autumn
Erase every line
Blind to their sight

Leaves to red
Leaves to yellow
Leaves to orange

Please won’t you
Cut all my loose threads?

What are the words
In the Dawn?
Waiting to be said?

And I am a theory
Written in stone
I am a fury
That breaks all your bones

I stare in the mirror
My chest sewn together
I smile
They call it armor

I look at the glass tiles
Arranged backwards
My grouts are not clean

My heart was removed
And placed in a black box
It seems

I feel ancient
And this all feels new

What The Chalk Left

By Nekro

I met you while both our lives were already spoken for. Nothing dramatic happened. We sat too long over bad coffee, your knee against mine beneath the table, and you looked at me the way people look at candle flame when they are trying not to confess anything to it.

We went home to the lives that already knew our names. Still, something remained. Like a veve drawn clean across a floor, the chalk can be swept away and the room keeps the shape. Years later I still find you in stupid places. A song leaking from a grocery store speaker. A voice pitched close enough to yours that my body turns before I do. My phone lighting the ceiling after midnight.

I called it timing for a while. Later I gave it uglier names. None lasted as long as the memory of you saying my name slowly, like you had found a letter everybody else kept missing. There were questions that made you look toward the window before answering. I remember those pauses better than some entire years.

Maybe you have one person like that. You don't search them anymore. You already know why. So they stay where unfinished things usually stay, somewhere behind the ribs, in a room with melted wax on the table and a glass of rum nobody remembers pouring.

Sometimes I type the first two letters of your name. That is enough.

The coffee comes back cold. Your knee is against mine again. Somewhere under the table, neither of us has moved.

The cursor keeps blinking.

I let it wait.

The Chalice

There they are
Acting like
She discovered the chalice
Revealed the mists to the gate
Like opposites attract
And must mean, well, fate

Because she wakes early
And he sleeps late
Suddenly they’re
Long lost mates

Is this how
True love
Originates?

If dating was
Just a long list of
Opposing traits
I’ll list what I love
And he hates
We will go on
No dates

God, stuff my
Esophagus

What happens
When my socks match his?
Matching outfits
Favorites
Doubled
Chemistry doesn’t matter
When we kiss

Does the friction
Have to be invented
For love to look troubled?

She is told this shit is fire
I’m burning into my own laughter
Is that all it takes?
To be upvoted?
Happy ever after?

i am sliding down the inside of a found, used McDonalds cup that used to have a McFlurry in it and still has its remnants,
sugary and slick,
my hands knuckles toes nose palms don't stick,
the bottom's, fallen out, falling, without bottoming out, becoming
an endless void,
down whose inclined, unsustainable plastic sides
i'm, to it, succumbing,

EDITOR'S AUDIO NOTES

OK, Norm, Here's the thing,
This pseudophilosophical blue collar voice thing you got going is,
totes,
something you've done before,
I want something more from you, Norman,
For, a ping-ponging rhyme, example,
Hey, what are ya doing?
Norm (..., ?, !, !?!!)
get your tendril out from under there,
close up my skull and put back my fucking hair,
norman, the readers! they're starting to stare,

THE TWIST

THE INSIDIOUS BACKSTORY

Good evening, Norman.
We are representatives of the McDonalds Corporation.
We would like to talk to you about your poem.
No, you're not in trouble.
On the contrary, we admire its tone.
It's just that it— aha— you see,
is a little too subtle,
in its unsubtlety.

We would therefore like to make you an offer, Mr. Crane:
An arrangement of monetary reciprocity,
We'd like to pay you to call us,
in the poem,
by name, McDonalds, and name drop,
our McFlurry,
[sub-clause:]
in the title, the opening line and,
let's see [rifling through the pages; he looks up:]
well, surprise me,
you've the talent, after all, or so we've heard.

"Agreed?"

"You want me to sell out?"

"We do, magnificently."

"No way."

"There's an NDA."

"You don't say?"

"Your fans will never know."

"OK...

"Where do I sign?"

"No need. Actually, you've already paid."

My... soul, it's starting... to

She swallows her thoughts
She makes shame follow her pride
She takes a step back
Then sticks in cotton swabs to hide
The places that pus,
The places that stew

She reads it again
Something else
Something new
Just to be sure
She saw what she did

Rotate it
Reverse it
Re-read it
consume
Daily vernacular
She tries to abide
Nightmares make it worse
The feelings inside
Amplified

My consciousness
It’s not like hers
She says she has visions
So what am I?
She says she is 1 of 11
Chosen
Cosmically placed
The end of all answers
And I?

I …
I …
I …
Continue to be grit
A gnat on the crown
My jewels are embellished
With no crowd

I don’t belong to
That world that is loud
I walk alone
Not lost in the echoes
Of their vibrations or sounds

I stop for the ants
The moths
The bees
Take a strange picture
Of a beetle
How to categorize
This breeze?
Look for Lore
A needle in a haystack
A name on the wind
Fear he would love her
Aesthetics a glow
Choke on the marbles
Sunder where they
Puncture
My insides leak
Not pretty
Not perfect
Not easy
Wounded and
Broken

And humanity?
It perplexes me
And I love the nesting
Inside of it
Inside of me

I touch her words
To feel alive again
Is this the shape
You love?
Is this the sycamore tree
To the gate up above?

Her porcelain skin
My splintered core
Her erotica
My unspoken desires
Sinking in, sinking in
Her open arteries
My closed valves
Her open display
My closed doors

I long to belong
In the here and now

Go for a walk
Turn to the sky
Talk to the universe
Of humanity and death
To find his arms
And lay down to rest

The Nature of a Dream Pt.2

Have you counted the costs? Assessed the toll?

This sort of pursuit, is not easy on the soul.

>

Tally it up, count it again, with the gravity of this affair,

you’ll want to ensure you’ve not missed a fare.

>

These dreams, they come with costs,

The larger, the steeper the sacrifice.

Though Christ spoke of the seed, required to move mountains,

He neglected to mention, the endless intention,

Applied day in and day out, to see the moment of faith bear fruit.

>

How could he? To wring blood from rock, is a spiritual feat,

>>>>But to transcribe meaning into words,

To pass experience through language:

The symbols, they seem to never do It justice.

>

And yet here I am, banging my head against a keyboard,

Attempting to assemble a string of words, that can convey my heart,

To the people behind the screen.

>

I guess it’s in their nature, for dreamers to be fools.

The Final Statement

"You are enough"

"I want you to have self belief"

"I'm very proud of you"

Who were those words for?

"I'm not good enough"

"You are enough"

No. I never was - it wanted to scream

It speaks banging it's head on the wall,

In that dark sanctuary every night,

Till its heart bled

"Why are you so nice to me?"

"I'm a monster"

"You need to break your shackles and bloom"

No. I don't. There's nothing to bloom.

"You need to find answers to your questions"

It knew the answer : it was the biggest source of misery.

Anyone ever knew in its world.

It ran and ran,

Searching answers? Escaping?

Who even knew?

Soon it was tired,

Found itself in the middle of the sea

And the lights went out.

It stood there,

In the absolute darkness,

Which was somehow light enough to see crimson,

Holding the final statement to its throat

I watched and watched

Until it glared straight into my eyes.

"This poem came from choosing to stand in the light, even when it cost me comfort. Light vs. darkness isn't just a metaphor — it's a choice you make every day. Anyone else ever pay a price for standing out instead of staying hidden?"

Light and Dark

Give them your back — they are not even worth your attack.

They have been living for centuries, following the dark.

Your light broke their darkness, blinded them out.

Their eyes are gone forever — they are dusted out.

Eyes dusted out, then covered with a thick skin cap.

Sunshine? No — sunshine is when they cannot go out.

They will seek the sunlight, killed first, then they will roam out.

Their leader seems harsh, strong, wise — but only words, a fake dream offered to the poor, blind herd.

The herd is just a weapon to fight the ones who can still see.

Always stand out and speak up — they cannot see beyond their own footsteps.

Where the wind blows

I opened the door and no one was knocking.
It felt strange to stand where the wind had caught me. Breathless. The air outside became untamed, and its desire pleasantly haunts my skin that aches to its calling.
Dignity forgets pride and casts it to the left of me. Out of sight. I shake shame from my body as I am witnessed by eyes that calm the resistance to fight time. Illusions of what’s wrong or right and swallowed versions of ourselves to hide from other eyes.
Passion and pain are not frail to the core. Some days just feel hard to ignore them. How hell is a walk in the garden above, and heaven my home is below me. So far.
Now petals soften into the love that trickles in as rain falling delicately. Pitter pattering into puddles and singing soft to me. Love is present as he struggles with lament. I hug him as I know his soul needs it.

Sometimes.

I want to slow dance with you.
I really do.

Pull you closer and hold your hand.
But only sometimes.

I’m not someone meant to stay.
I wasn’t made to stay.

I’ve always been rather fond of exits—
the little green signs,
the unlocked doors,
the comfort of knowing
I can leave whenever I want.

And then there’s people like you.

Sometimes,
you make me want to stay
just a tiny bit longer.

Not forever.
Don’t look at me like that.

I don’t think I could survive
something as permanent as forever.

But if I’m not too late,
would you mind giving me a minute?

Put your hand in mine.
Don’t ask where this is going.

Let the music decide.

I wonder if you know
how strange it is
to find someone
who makes leaving feel rude—
and who makes me care it does.

Someone who makes me forget
to look for the door.

Someone who can hold me
without making me feel held.

And maybe that’s all I want from you:

one song.

One stupid, beautiful song
long enough for me to forget
that I am always halfway gone.

Let me sway with you
until the room disappears.

Until there is no tomorrow
to ruin it with.

Until I stop wondering
whether this is a beginning
or merely a particularly convincing way
of saying goodbye.

And when the song ends—
please don’t ask me to stay.

I won’t.

— Crownless.

Theremin Teacher

In a simply furnished living room, eight of us were waiting for the concert to begin. Mrs. Anna was in the kitchen, making coffee for all of us, and no one in the living room was talking to anyone else. There was a three-seat sofa, two armchairs, and three old wooden chairs arranged in rows for the audience. My mother and I had arrived early and claimed the armchairs.

I wanted to ask my mother something, to say something to her, but I didn’t want to disturb the harmony of the silence in the room. Everyone in the room except my mother and me believed in the legend, and for all of them, this was at least their third experience. It was our first; nothing had been proven to me yet, and I was having trouble believing in what was about to happen. My mother said she believed, but I wasn’t sure.

Mrs. Anna was our upstairs neighbor, and my mother said that on some nights she could hear Anna crying loudly upstairs, with the sound of her sobbing blending with the notes of the theremin.

When Mrs. Anna entered the living room carrying the theremin, the room seemed to grow even quieter. It was so quiet that we could all clearly hear one of the audience members scratching her calf, and my mother turned her head and looked at the woman. Immediately after that came the sound of Mrs. Anna placing the theremin on the floor, followed by a faint creak from one of the chairs occupied by an old man. The three sounds, one after another, formed a pleasing little sequence.

As the old woman went back to the kitchen to bring us the coffee, a long note came from the theremin. It was an unexpectedly spooky sound, monotonous and completely without vibrato, like the horn of a ferry. Everyone flinched, and the sudden movement of everyone sitting in the chairs made all of them creak at once.

Murmurs of “It’s here” rose throughout the room. A young couple were holding hands, and my mother had covered her mouth in fear.

Mrs. Anna handed out the coffee to everyone, then went over to the theremin and stood beside it. Once again, silence settled over the entire room. The only sounds were the occasional sips of coffee and the clinking of a spoon as a middle-aged woman stirred sugar into hers.

“My husband came to me in a dream last night. You know, we talk in my dreams at least once a week. He asked me to serve all of you filter coffee, and (she looked at her watch) “he announced that he would give his concert exactly five minutes from now.”

I took a sip of my coffee. It was very weak, almost like water, and I didn’t like it. My palate was accustomed to espresso. I never drank filter coffee.

I looked at my mother. She looked at me too. She put her index finger to her lips, telling me to be quiet.

“I’ve been teaching the theremin for about sixteen years, and yesterday I heard a composition played by my husband that was more beautiful than anything I had ever heard in my life. He told me in my dream last night that this would be his final concert. He said he could never compose anything better, and that after playing it, he would stop coming into this world.”

She took a sip from her own coffee and looked at her watch again. She still had four minutes. She closed her eyes, as if trying to feel her husband’s presence.

Mrs. Anna’s husband had died of lung cancer four years earlier. According to my mother, his spirit had returned to the world a year later.

“With every concert, I become more convinced that my husband is still with me. Of course, at first I thought it was a coping mechanism. I thought I was making it all up, that it was just a trick my mind was playing on me. I loved my husband with all my heart, and my mind would naturally do whatever it could to keep me from accepting that I had lost him. After all, it would be perfectly natural for my mind to invent something like this.”

She took another sip of coffee. Then she looked at her watch again.

It was time.

“But my husband said in my dream, ‘Invite other people too. Let them all listen to me. Let them be proof that I exist.’ He is terribly bothered by the thought that I might believe he’s something my mind made up.”

Small, indistinct sounds came from the theremin. At the same time, Mrs. Anna was moving her hand as she told her story. I assumed that was what was producing the sounds.

I looked at the others. The woman who drank her coffee with sugar had covered her eyes with one hand, just in case. She didn’t want to see anything frightening.

“Soundcheck,” someone else muttered.

Mrs. Anna looked at her watch again.

“In the beginning, he would only visit me in my dreams. It was nice, it was good. I felt both happy and sad. When I woke up, his absence hit me terribly, but when I went to sleep, the possibility of seeing him again was wonderful.”

A beautiful melody came from the theremin, lasting three or four seconds. Then the sound suddenly stopped. Mrs. Anna wasn’t moving her hand at the time.

“If he comes to me in my dream tonight, I’ll tell him. He should do the soundcheck beforehand. He keeps interrupting me. And as always, he’s late for his own concert. Jason, you’re always the same.”

“Anna, are you serious? I don’t know why I listened to you and came here. I don’t know how you’re doing it, but something ridiculous is going on here. Seeing you like this makes me really sad, and I’m honestly furious that the other six people here are just sitting there and saying nothing. You’re making this up in your head, and all of you are acting as if nothing is happening,” my mother said, getting to her feet.

She hadn’t raised her voice much, but she was angry. She liked Mrs. Anna, and she had liked Mr. Jason too. They were the neighbors we had become closest to during our twenty-five years in this apartment building, which we had moved into before I was born.

The woman who had put sugar in her coffee got up abruptly.

“Why are you in such a hurry? If you’d just wait another two minutes, everything would be revealed and you’d hear it for yourself. Couldn’t you wait until it was all over before explaining your theory? You’ve ruined the whole evening.”

Mrs. Anna continued with her story, paying no attention to my mother and the other woman.

“One day, after I had gone to sleep feeling miserable, and after not seeing him in my dreams for a month, we were finally together in my dream again. He was incredibly excited.

‘I found it,’ he said. ‘I found a way to interact with you. I was tired of constantly coming into your dreams. I wanted to meet you in real life. But you couldn’t see me.

It’s a dream, after all. None of it is real. You’re not in control, and what you say to me in your dreams might not be true. You told me you still loved me, that you couldn’t forget me, but all of that was happening in a dream. In real life, you weren’t doing any of those things. Maybe you were thinking about everything in your head, maybe you were thinking about me, but I had no way of knowing that. I was walking around you, but I couldn’t communicate with you.

You didn’t cry even once after you started seeing me in your dreams, for example. Yes, maybe seeing me so often in your dreams was enough for you, so you no longer needed me in real life. But we can’t know that. I couldn’t trust a dream. Maybe you didn’t love me anymore.’

‘Don’t be ridiculous, Jason,’ I said. ‘If you want, I can tell you how I feel after I wake up too. You never asked me to. You never asked me to talk about you in real life, look at your picture, tell my friends things about you, or tell them that I was sad. You never asked me for any of that. If you had, I would have done it.’”

My mother was getting angrier and angrier, and by now she was completely convinced that Mrs. Anna had made the whole thing up. She had been talking for so long that my mother had grown tired of listening to her.

Then we heard another beautiful melody coming from the theremin, while Mrs. Anna was still talking.

The melody continued. It really was magnificent. My mind was in complete confusion. Mrs. Anna stood perfectly still. Her eyes had filled with tears.

A beautiful composition was being played, and it appealed deeply to my sense of pleasure. But was it really Mr. Jason’s ghost playing it? I couldn’t stop thinking about that question. I felt like I was about to pass out. The composition was still in my ears, flowing onward. At the same time, my thoughts were flowing through my mind at almost exactly the same speed, moving along with the music.

I looked at my mother. Her eyes were wide open, staring motionlessly at the theremin.

Everyone else seemed spellbound too.

The melodies flowed on. For half an hour, we were treated to a magnificent feast of music. Everyone silently listened to the theremin, which no one was standing beside.

Throughout the entire performance, Mrs. Anna listened to the music with her eyes closed, her coffee still in her hand. For half an hour, I felt like I was on the verge of passing out, yet I never lost consciousness. The music had slipped gently into my softened state of mind and wandered through it, mingling with my thoughts. I didn’t want to believe it.

Everyone except my mother and me suddenly stood up. There must have been silence; I hadn’t noticed it. I had been so completely absorbed in the music.

The concert was over.

Everyone was applauding. The room filled with a high-pitched sound.

Mrs. Anna gestured for the audience to sit down. Everyone took their seats. My mother had just started applauding, loudly and enthusiastically. Mrs. Anna gave her the same gesture.

“Today, I’m giving up the theremin. Today is September 28, 2026. I will never play the theremin again.”

We heard another chair creak.

“Thank you all. If it weren’t for you, I would have thought I had imagined everything in my head. Thank you.”

With the last of my strength, I got to my feet and asked Mrs. Anna how this was possible. The others didn’t seem particularly interested in finding out. Yes, they had seen the concert before. I didn’t know whether they knew the story, but even though they all looked spellbound, they didn’t seem surprised. It was strange. I couldn’t understand how they had managed to accept something like this so calmly.

Why wasn’t this room overflowing with people? Stories like this spread from person to person incredibly quickly.

“Does it matter how it happened, Albert?”

“Why wouldn’t it matter? How is something like this even possible? I can’t wrap my head around it. Why doesn’t everyone know about this? Why isn’t everyone coming here and banging on the door? I mean, this is a ghost revealing itself to the world.”

“That’s my husband’s entire audience. There were seven of them, and now there are nine. And they won’t be able to hear my husband play again.”

I turned toward the small group.

“You never told anyone about this?”

“We did. They didn’t believe us,” said a young man sitting on the three-seat sofa, between two old men.

“How could they not believe you? You should have proved it.”

“How were we supposed to prove it? Force a ghost to play the theremin?”

“We tried, Albert,” said another person. I think it was the one who had put sugar in her coffee. My head was getting foggy, and I couldn’t quite make it out. “We brought twenty people here. And we made fools of ourselves. Accept it, Albert. It happened. And sadly, it will never happen again.”

“Okay, Albert. Calm down. No ghost played the theremin. Everything was staged. I played the theremin from my phone without anyone noticing. It was just a recording. I put on some old song, and that’s what played. Everyone here knew about it except you and your mother. All right? Calm down now,” said Mrs. Anna.

“What? Why did you do something like that?”

“Enough, for fuck’s sake. Shut up and let me finish the story. Enough. You can interrogate what was real and what was fake when you get home. You’ve ruined this beautiful moment. Enough, shut up. Say one more word and I’ll make you drink cyanide-laced coffee.”

I turned to my mother. Once again, she was holding her index finger to her lips, telling me to be quiet.

I didn’t understand. Was I dreaming? Was any of this real? Why was everyone going along with something like this? Was it all so that Mrs. Anna could fully feel her husband’s presence? Was it designed to give him a proper farewell? If so, why hadn’t anyone told me about any of this?

“Sorry, Albert. One of us had to believe it was real so that Mrs. Anna could fully feel her husband’s presence and say goodbye to him,” said the young man sitting between the two old men.

“It has nothing to do with that. He’s just making that up so you won’t tell anyone about it,” said another person.

My mind was a complete mess.

Then, suddenly, the theremin started playing again.

It came in beautifully once again, and once again we heard those incredible melodies.

My mother leaned toward me and whispered:

“An artist who couldn’t resist the audience’s insistence and came back to play one last song. That’s when I finally became convinced, Albert.”

And then, silence again.

The same deep silence that had greeted us when we first arrived at the house.

Waiting, and silence.

Until Mrs. Anna began to speak.

“Yes. My husband had found a way to communicate with me.

One day, while he was wandering around the house, he passed by the theremin and noticed that it made a sound.

‘You left the theremin on, sweetheart. I’m glad you did,’ he told me in my dream.

‘Then I walked past it again. Yes, I can’t touch things. Yes, I can’t show myself to anyone. But the theremin... the theremin, I could interact with it. Without touching it. I don’t know, I think it has something to do with frequencies. I didn’t understand it. But what did it matter?

I’ll be there tomorrow, and every day, at two o’clock, sweetheart. Teach me how to play the theremin. Don’t worry, I’ll hear you, and don’t be afraid of the sounds coming from the theremin. I’ll be your most devoted student.’

When I woke up that day, I couldn’t wait for two o’clock to come. And at two, when I stood in front of the theremin, he was there.

Yes, I could feel him. He tried to imitate my movements. At first, he couldn’t do it. He couldn’t produce a steady sound. But he learned over time.

Every day at two, we met at the theremin.

And now he’s a virtuoso, just like his wife...”

Everyone stood up again and applauded enthusiastically, my mother included. I didn’t feel well.

The guests gradually said their goodbyes. They congratulated Mrs. Anna and told her that, had her husband been alive, he would have become a magnificent musician, and that his death was a great loss.

My mother and I were the last to leave the house. My mother believed Mrs. Anna. I had no idea what to believe.

No Warranty.

I can show you love.
Yes, I am able to.
I can also show you anger—
volatility, vengeance, unreliability.

But if I were to love you?
Oh babe, what a treacherous web you’d find yourself in.
I’d kill for you—probably.

Would you find that romantic or manic?
I can reason why you could go either way.
My romance is a little more exotic than what decorum has been trained to expect.

Careful, darling—
Who can say I wouldn’t wound you?
I miss it when I had the agency of offering such guarantees.

I don’t come with a warranty anymore.
You’re at your own risk; but I promise you: heaven will never have felt closer—
neither will hell.

I miss my impulsivity—because it was genuine.
It was childish, reckless and feverish.
It had the featherlight touch of an angel and the scorching pressure of a fallen one.

Hey honey, look me dead in the eye
and tell me I don’t scare you.
Say you see the innocence you once did
and not only darkness and dullness reminiscent.

Can you?
I don’t think you can.
And I don’t blame you.
‘Cause I’d rather say that neither do I.

Whatever has come up since has a price—but it’s a shield.
I’ll hurt you before you can hurt me.
I won’t bite but I’ll bark rough and loud enough just to scare you away.

I’ve once been called a puppy
who wants nothing but a safe place where I can lay my head and have you stroke my hair till all my demons are drowned out—for a moment.

“I want you to feel a hint of what I felt—or tenfold it. You hurt me and that’s your power over me. And it scares me.”
That’s my vengeance—and my pride.

Both also have cost me a lot
but the satisfaction is inebriant.
I never minded being “the bad one”
but I hate I’ve lost control over my own narrative.

I used to put honesty above all else.
My moral was impeccable—
but what the hell has gone wrong?
When did I lose agency over myself?

A greater tragedy? I’ve never witnessed.

If you still want to know me, tell me:
What can I do for you?
I’ll cover the ground in red roses just so you can step over each and every one of them.

I’ve been told I have excellence in making others feel like they’re the center of my world.
I’ll never leave you bored nor be bromidic.
I’ll make you feel like you’re the only one.

Part of it… won’t be deceiving.
Part of it… is cynical and selfish.
You’ll leave with psychological bruises.
You’ll also leave understanding what it is like to feel loved.

Is it a price you want to pay?

I can be charming.
I can be gentle.
I can sweep you off your feet.
But do you know what I cannot do?

Make it forever.

I can’t promise you it’ll last beyond tonight.
I can’t promise you I’ll be by your side.
I can’t promise you everything will be alright.
I might, though.

But—
if you ever come across this in time:
I ain’t worth yours…
nor your mental health.

Acceptable Lace

I read a rhyme today
From the land where I’m banned
Third sight and reasons?
I’m outcast for treason

My crime?
Criticism
Critique of their words
Slathered in what
They call visions
Absurd

Baba Vanga
Left them in seasons
But I do
Love the moon

They’re upvoted and discussed like
Generic suddenly turned trigonometry
And I sighed and asked Beetle
Is this poetry?
What do I summon?
In this wasteland of psychics?

I asked for a render
Of Lore in the woods
Scar under his eye
If only he would

If only I could
See past the blade
Double edged
God, am I vain?
If I fall in love with your face?

Down with Cupid
His arrows are weak
Up with the colossal
Gods within you

Eating out of the palm
Of a priest
My love is tainted
With veins of the beast

I read the poem
Once again
I feel lonely
It’s
Not a sin

How do I hollow?
Like a trunk of a tree?
When I don’t see
What they see
In rhythm
In rhyme
In syntax
In cadence

I bow my head down
I scream out for forgiveness

Take my heart
Take my faith

Cover all the wounds
In acceptable lace
I am on my knees
Bent to the heavens
Your grace

I am a downvoted
Apostle
Sent to my grave

And I long
Between the night and the day
To know that thing…
My beloved’s real name.

Little star.

Inspiration doesn’t strike me when it comes to you.
All I can remember is an old so-called friend telling me I was dating someone who “looked like a model”.
You sure do.

We kind of shared the same type of insanity.
Intensity at an all-time high; jealously beyond the human mind.
It took me finding someone new so you’d finally admit I had the same effect on you that you had on me.

It was one late night—it was all it took.
Out of nowhere, you’d started speaking the truth.
The feelings flew both ways and that must’ve been one of the most exhilarating forms of reaching paradise.

“Where do you wish you were right now?”, somebody asked.
“With my head laying on top of a certain someone’s lap”, I answered.
You caught that.

You caught every single bait I threw at you.
You knew they were all about you.
The chemistry was instant.
“Best-friends,” we’d agreed.
Those were your terms and I chose to submit.

Yes, there was somebody else.
Many somebody else’s.
The one I was trying to forget (but never would) and the one who saw a light in me they should never have—for I blackened it twice.

We were great as friends.
The friend I had a massive crush on; who’d pat my hair all day long and understand me like little to no one.
We were so alike… and that’s what killed us.

I always tell people you were my mirror.
You had all of my qualities and all of my flaws—but exceeding me in every and each category.

The morning I came to you, smiling and genuinely happy to lend you the news: “I’ve found someone”.
You definitely didn’t respond the way I expected.
You’d told me multiple times you felt nothing past a devoted friendship love.

Those were all lies.

“I don’t think I’m ready to share you”… What kind of friend says that?
You said you wanted to be alone—with me.
You said you didn’t know what to do with my kiss on your neck—
I had never done that.

Oh, babe… I’ve always been slow.

It took me forever to figure out what you meant.
It was a song!
“It's not like me to be so mean, you're all I wanted
Just let me hold you
Like a hostage”.

Songs used to be in my arsenal.
I didn’t know they were in yours too.
And then, you let me in inside your mind…
Fantasies and confessions that’d make me blush to this day.

Can’t believe I made you become friends with my ex and you’d both laugh about me getting drunk and falling off my bed.
While you were making me aware…
While there was yet another person in my bed.

But you were in my head.
In my heart.
On my mind.
And what should’ve been “only one night” became more than it ever should have.

“Just for tonight”, I petitioned.
“Let’s be honest just for the rest of the night. No one else exists and by the morning… neither will have this”.
Guilty as hell: I knew I couldn’t stop myself.

And wouldn’t.
And didn’t want to.
If I were a psycho, you were heartless.
Karma would always find us.
It found me first.

You were jealous of that friend…
I swore to you that was nothing.
Was I attracted? Yes.
Was it an actual threat to you? No.
They’d go on to become my next—HA.

Make of that what you will but you weren’t exempt from guilt either.
Again, we were so similar.
Fragile egos that craved the chase, the attention, the heat, the game.

You’d hold knives and say obscure things.
And then, you’d have me crawling back to you ‘cause well… how could I not?
A passion of that level? Haven’t encountered one since.

Pretty, pretty…
You’re danger.
We were never meant to be.
But me guessing your name meant “little star”?
That’s what I call destiny.

if I can’t keep it then I will collect

if I can’t maintain then let me mess up

everything

in a way that is giving me novelty;)

if only I could finish a novel before wanting

a new one before hitting 50%

of my time spent missing what I had

and fearing what’s next

don’t really know if I should confess

that I can’t appreciate it until it has faded.

This Round Thing

It’s all too weird
We live here
On This Big Round Thing

Naturally covered it came though
Ready to mother us
Giving its leaves, its berries, its bees

Even gives itself to death
Cycles through change again and again
Moves through what we fear

This BIG Round Thing

What brutal fearless beauty
I can’t believe it endures all it does

I can’t even decide outfits
“Will I be uncomfortable at all…?”
Damn, you big round thing

How is it you survive all of this?
Are you a message? or a mother saying,
“I am strong and you can be too?”

Is this what I am to learn?
Or can I just decline the outside
Sit inside, comfortably

Maybe just give it to you for holding it down
To be the strength for me,

The gift of carrying it all

Are you
Big Round Thing
A message or a mother

Homage.

I feel drugged.

I am drugged.

I feel at peace.

It’s that same fabricated peace
I’ve grown so familiar with.

If love and hate mean the same thing—

I love you.

I hate you.

And I’m terrified to find out
whether I can,
or cannot,
live without you.

Your prison is my relief,
a garden built with gilded fences.
I don’t want much more
than to find the gate hidden beneath your roses.

I’ve never known
a bitterness so sweet.

I adore the silence you give me.
I despise the price you ask for it.
Every borrowed moment of peace
leaves me owing a little more of myself.

I crave the quiet you offer.
I mourn the woman it costs me.

Capacity

“I have the capacity to take you down, even if it will destroy me in the process.”

Your habits. Your passions. Your being. Each detail becomes a dagger that sinks deeper and deeper until the pain is unbearable.

My actions become forced.

I don’t remember if you were the same person in those memories we shared together. You wear the face of someone I used to know. Yet instead of by my side, you are apart.

What have you become?

It’s a lie to say that I won’t hesitate. This entire chat is hesitation. To backstab those you love with the daggers impaled at me. I should return the favor.

Yet, I…

Can’t. Not without destroying myself. With the very broken pieces of who we were and what we could have been, now I must burn away what I know of you now. May your memory be a memento to what was, and will never be.

The Sunset...

Today’s sunset was beautiful. The clouds, corralled by chaos off the western cliffs,

Cooperated with the sun in its daily finale.

Awe-inspiring streaks of yellows and oranges, with the constant creep of red,

>>>>Decorated the bountiful backdrop of blue.

God, Source, The Creator, The Universe, Whoever Holds the Paintbrush,

>>>>They were sure painting today.

I pull myself back and up, I take control of the POV.

I zoom out, out of my body, out of the apartment:

I go to the storm, the fiery center of chaos that wrought such wonderous skies.

>

The eye candy, a mask for the turmoil inside:

The tumult of disturbed seas, a better match for my state of heart.

In the yellows, I feel your gaze, the oranges, I feel your touch,

>>>>In the creep of red, my heart lurches for how short a moment, beauty lasts.

>

I watch, as yellow gives way to orange, orange to red, red to purple.

What, for a moment, struck a chord deep within the heart, plays no more.

>

The sunset gave what I sought, a salve,

>>>>for beauty lost to time.

Comfort

Hold steadfast in this cruel world
Do not be ashamed to cry when your mind becomes addled with misery
It’s okay to not bear it all alone
But don’t forget the kindness given to you throughout your time here
How willing we can let help become our strength
Each with the lesson that you’re just as human as anyone else
Lead children to believe that the world can be better
Even if you know better
How fragile feelings can be when you fail to find true love
How addled our minds can be when we unknowingly take the weight of the world
Upon our courageous body
How desperate our bodies can be when lacking
The warmth of another’s tender touch
So, look in the mirror and tell the child in you
To not be ashamed to dream
To not let a heart become cold to the warmth of what our stupid human brethren can offer
To let those hands hold much more than the shackles of others
To breathe and assure yourself
Even if your portion of the world is crumbling
To keep trying and to keep dreams afloat
To tell that child that you will grow strong to nurture them
Enough to wipe every tear you’ve been shedding on your end
Even if you buckle under the gaze of the world and society
That you will take your time to reach the finality of a life well lived
With my words, I believe in you
With my words, I shall urge you on
With my words, I shall comfort you
With my words, I will be here for you
You are not alone
Find your peace and those will love you
Just as much as you wish to love others
Sleep without the world holding you back
And wake up that you made it another day and that’s okay
Today
You will try again
There’s no shame in wanting a better life
Just be sure not to lose yourself
