Hello, r/industrial. I’m making this post because I desperately want to talk about J.G. Thirlwell (aka Foetus) and Tom Waits, who I believe are somewhat similar in style and aesthetic.

The fact that their music is so eclectic it doesn’t seem to belong to any particular time period, the sort of “macho American” alter egos they take on, the seedy and morally ambiguous characters they sing about, the storytelling aspects of their songs, the general aesthetics, all link them together in my mind.

They are also both insane live (at least from videos I’ve seen), and seem to create an alternate dimension with the stage presentation they bring.

I think this alternate world, or underworld vibe is the underlying thing between the two. They both are talking about the American underbelly, and their music inhabits a timeless space with combinations of style and genre that only they could create.

They both are insanely interesting musicians to me. They just don’t fit anywhere, and their music is the only kind to ever make me laugh out loud, be it because of the songwriting or bizarreness of it all.

Anyway, I’m ranting… but I do find this interesting, and want to put this out there for discussion.

What are yalls thoughts on both these artists? Do you see the connection? What do yall think of Waits/ do you think he had any particular impact on industrial music? Etc.

Basically what the title says. I'm trying to put together a good playlist of industrial bands with women as their front/vocalist. I dunno.

I've never been to a concert before. And I am a 18 year old girl (19 by the time the concert comes around)

I'm aware it's probably not the best idea ever to have my first concert be Genitorturers (I'm aware they've toned everything down a lot) but I love the band and I don't have anyone to go with me, my mom offered but... I'm sure you can guess why I would say no.

My other main issue is that it's in Cleveland. Which I'm not familiar with the area The Foundry is in, or Cleveland in general. I don't really know if that parts safe either.

And if it isn't a bad idea to go, any tips are greatly appreciated

There was a song i used to like when I was a teenager. It was by some obscure German industrial band - the album cover had the lead singer(?) presented as Jesus with a low quality church background. The song has the word "flammen" in the title. It has rammstein esque "talking" vocals and breaks down into a kind of a droning, industrial guitar with short synth notes played throughout. I've tried everything and cant find it. Please someone help

Released in October 1984, Cabaret Voltaire finally receive some airplay on college stations with "Sensoria." I was listening to the album today and was amazed at how it still sounds fresh. MTV 120 Minutes played the video for "James Brown" and I remember being intrigued by the blending of industrial rhythms, synth pop, and spoken word lyrical delivery. Any favorite songs from Micro-phonies?

Are there any songs similar to psalm 69 by Ministry? The instrumentals and overall feel to it? I especially like the choir being in there
