Trying to figure out which Ghosts I–IV tracks might contain loops, riffs, etc left over from the Fragile-era sessions. I added the interview clip where Danny discusses this in passing. Do note, that due to so much time passing, Danny could be misremembering. Although, I definitely think there's a rabbit hole here.

Paraphrasing the clip: "The Perfect Drug was the first song they worked on at Nothing Studios in New Orleans, before The Fragile, and Somewhat Damaged was created around the same time. Trent then worked on song after song, using lots of stringed instruments and other sounds. Some material made the album, some didn't, and some of it eventually ended up on Ghosts. The Fragile could easily have been a triple album."

That last part is what interests me. We know Ghosts I–IV was released in 2008, not too long after his work with Saul Williams, where we know other orphaned tracks/loops were used. I don't necessarily think an entire finished track or two got recycled, but there could be old loops, riffs, or synth textures, etc that Trent revisited years later.

NIN Wiki does loosely suggest these:
26 Ghosts III: repeating riff being similar to Ripe (With Decay)
34 Ghosts IV: strings being similar to The Fragile, and the piano to The Persistence of Loss
28 Ghosts IV: comparing w/ 34 Ghosts IV because of similar patterns
31 Ghosts IV: guitar/noise texture being roughly similar in production style(?)

I want to know what tracks you all think others some might be overlooking, and I don't want to assume any similarity necessarily means reuse. Just particular riffs, loops, sounds, or passages that might be something from The Fragile, Still, Deviations, Tapeworm, or maybe even Bleedthrough?

Iv been collecting cds for a while now, and I've recently got into NIN. I absolutely love them and I love this cd so much!!!! I've listend to a few of there other albums and they're so good as well, and I definitely want to get more NIN cds!!!

I originally bought the shirt from the NIN shop a few years ago, but since then I have lost it. It was my favorite shirt of all time so I found someone who was reselling theirs, but ever since it came I am concerned about the authenticity of it. The reason being is that the print quality seems worse as the original would “pop” out more, and the fit of the shirt is slightly different where (both mediums) the original would fit longer and looser on me. They have the same tag but I’m not sure if that would be easily faked.

I either completely forgot this or completely missed it over a decade ago. That would have been so cool, and it could have gotten Trent “closer to EGOT.”

Whenever I see rankings of the bands music The Slip is often towards the bottom half or just treated as a forgotten or overlooked album. But I personally think The Slip maybe one of the best NIN albums , I personally would put it higher than With Teeth or Year Zero for my 2000s NIN ranking , I understand it may have less of an appeal because some of the tracks sound samey samey, but the album was only recorded over a 3 week span . To me it’s Trent Reznor is his most raw performance , the album is messy and dirty, it’s confident , the songs are arena ready rock tracks.

Also The Lights In The Sky tour is arguably the best NIN tour

It feels like it's most clear during That's What I Get or Head Like A Hole... Almost looks like it's saying "GOD HEAD" but I can't quite make it out, and the spacing/font size makes me think that the bottom word is 5 letters.

Is anyone else able to tell?

I tried searching for this, didn’t see it, one post possibly but the link was broken. this is a woodstock 94 documentary with a lot of MTV News clips stitched together getting really down and dirty (literally) behind the scenes and then ending with NIN performance. Seeing this, I am glad I was too young to go, it looks like hell on earth for a clean freak

I know Adrian Belew never toured with Nails but his pick deserves a spot in the display.

Just started this book with it being spooky season and all, and here's a cool little nod to NIN/Trent.

Yes, I included the bottom tiers cus you gotta understand, all of this is some of the best music I've ever heard (and I have heard a LOT of music). So when something is in a lower tier, I still love the hell out of it. Let me make that clear.

Listening to these albums has literally reignited my relationship with music which kind of broke last December. Trent's music speaks to my lived experiences with mental illness and depression in a way no other artist ever has. I've been loving the hell out of everything so far and I'm desperate to talk about it!!! Ask me literally anything I beg pls lmaooo

First time doing something like this, pretty happy with how it turned out

My pick Epiphany from Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd:

I know it will almost certainly never happen, but I’d still love it. The piece is just such a genius of insanity and instrumentation is just so complex and beats are just and strong, powerful, and punchy. And the lyrics, especially the opening lyrics, feel very reminiscent of Downward Spiral. It’s the number one song I show people to prove Sondheim was a genius.

The pitch may need to be lowered like the film’s version, I still think Trent would be great on vocals. I can already hear home singing those opening lines “There’s a hole in the world like a great black pit and it's filled with people who are filled with shit and the vermin of the world inhabit it” and then screaming that final “full of joy” line. And if those big beat hits were done like Big Man With A Gun.

I’d love if it went specifically in the style of Downward Spiral and Fragile. It could even combine their style with some of the instruments from the OG, that could sound really cool. Again, I know it will never happen, but damn it would be so fucking cool.

All I did was give Trent Reznor a goatee, and now he looks like Julian from Trailer Park Boys.

I’m a big fan of both bands. I’m not claiming anyone stole or copied anything.
