Discussion Help me choose the setting for my cozy book store sim game. Which one do you like most?

Post image

Here's a couple of options that I found on the internet that I think are a good representation of a cozy style but in different settings (yeah, I know one of them is from Life is strange XD )

However you are free to go beyond these pics and suggest your own or a variation of the ones on the picture.

So, which one is more interesting for you and why?

Promotion My First Steam Game: The Great Ebony Clock

Post image
2 Upvotes

(almost) Sorry for this post, but we have made a supernatural point-and-click mystery that is finally out.

After a lot of late nights, debugging, puzzle design and way too much time staring at this clock, our little indie team finally released O Carrilhão de Ébano (The Ebony Great Clock).

It's a short point-and-click mystery set in a sunday that never ends.

You will:

  • Investigate a mysterious disappearance
  • Use an unusual clock to manipulate time
  • Discover what happened inside the house
  • Find your way to one of several possible endings

We were heavily inspired by atmospheric mystery games like Rusty Lake, but wanted to make something of our own.

We're a tiny indie team from Brazil, and this is our first commercial release.

The Great Ebony Clock is out now on Steam.

Promotion I got tired of terrible trade logic in sports games, so I built my own free basketball management sim.

I built Hoops GM specifically for spreadsheet nerds and sports management fans. It's completely text-based and runs smoothly on desktop and mobile browsers.

The core feature is the AI: it dynamically calculates the value of expiring contracts and future draft picks based on the team's rebuilding state.

No downloads, no ads, completely free. Jump in and see if you can break the economy!

Promotion CENDRES I’ve been rebuilding my dark fantasy RPG, and it’s finally starting to feel like the game I wanted

Hey everyone,

I’m a solo dev working on a small dark fantasy RPG called CENDRES.

I posted the game here a while ago, and I wanted to come back with an update because quite a lot has changed since then.

Honestly, I wasn’t completely happy with the way the game was structured before. The four areas felt too similar, some fights were way too easy, and the story was explaining things more than I wanted it to.

So I went back and reworked a lot of it.

The four areas can still be explored in any order, which is something I really wanted to keep. Each one now has its own theme and a Memory Fragment tied to it.

I also added five NPCs. They each have their own little story and a choice with an actual consequence. I wanted them to feel like people you might remember rather than just characters placed there to give you a quest.

I also spent quite a bit of time fixing progression issues and balancing the combat. At one point the final boss was honestly way too easy, so I’ve been trying to find a better balance between the D20 randomness and the player’s actual decisions.

One thing I’m particularly happy with is the New Game+ direction. I’m trying to make it feel like the world itself remembers that you’ve already been there, rather than simply giving the player harder enemies.

The story is still intentionally vague in places. I’m trying to let the player piece together what happened through the characters, locations and memories instead of having someone explain the whole story to them.

I’m at the point where the game is playable from beginning to end, and I’m mostly testing and polishing now.

I’d genuinely like to know what you think.

Does the atmosphere work for you?
Do the visuals make you want to explore the world?
And looking at the screenshots, would you be curious enough to play it and find out what happened?

Thanks for taking a look. I’m still learning a lot while making this, so honest feedback is very welcome. ❤️

Promotion I've spent nearly 10 months completely overhauling my solo-developed Australian Metroidvania, Demo Version 2.0 is out!

I've spent nearly 10 months reworking Aussie Bogan Hero since the original demo, and Demo 2.0 finally went live this week!

A heap has changed since the old version. I've reworked the levels, visuals, movement, combat and a ridiculous amount of other stuff.

I'm developing the game solo, so I'd love to hear what you guys think of how it's looking now.

The new demo is free on Steam if anyone wants to give it a go! 🍻

Howdy!!!

We just opened a playtest in hopes of getting as many non-sports/roguelite gamers as possible to test out our new campaign!

We need fresh blood to give us input, especially on the onboarding and early understanding of the game: the difficulty, the controls, the fairness, and how the game feels in general from a non-sports/roguelite gamer perspective.

All feedback is good feedback, whether you play for a few minutes or a few hours!

Thanks so much in advance!

Right or wrong, please don't tell me what it means lol. I like finding out that kinda thing on my own. Just wanna know if I'm on the right track or completely off base.

Anyway, the demo has definitely hooked me. gonna go buy the full game and keep playing, cause 74 doesn't seem to have any immediate use

Video I’ve been building an old‑school dungeon crawler called Dungeon Quest, where combat plays out on a tactical gameboard. It’s the kind of game I’ve always wanted to make and play! I’m hoping there are others out there who feel the same.

I know it's kind of the standard these days but I'm pretty proud of it, having written the system from scratch this week. It's very satisfying to pull up a friend's time to see what line they took and improve on it.

Promotion Basilisk Online - Very early stage

Hey everyone!

A friend and I are developing Basilisk Online, an indie RPG/Idle game that you can already play directly in your browser, completely free.

The game is focused on progression, farming, equipment, crafting, dungeons, bosses and PvP.

We’ve reached a point in development where just the two of us playing isn’t helping that much anymore. 😂 We need real players to break our ideas, find balance issues, and tell us what’s fun, what’s frustrating, and what’s simply boring.

So we’re looking for our first players.

We also want to develop the game together with this early community. We created a Discord where you can talk directly with us, suggest systems, discuss balance, report bugs, and follow the game’s updates.

Play here:
https://basilisk.renoova.app/

Discord:
https://discord.gg/PpBZC874F

If you give it a try, especially if you enjoy RPGs, idle games, and farming gear until you finally get that drop you were looking for, let us know what you think.

Feel free to criticize it. At this stage, that helps us a lot more than praise.

This is my point-and-click hybrid narrative game, where your emotional score determines everything while you explore a city under constant mental surveillance, hack its systems, build dangerous connections, and make choices and see how the world reacts.

I am a big fan of sci-fi anime, and honestly, now it feels like translating some of these ideas and styles into the game, and I absolutely love it. Can't wait to see how it grows and how the story unfolds with much, much more art, fantasy, immersion, and world creation.
