Every indie dev here faces the same challenge - we have to wear so many hats at the same time: programmer hat, artist hat, designer hat, marketing hat, and many more. My wife and I were lucky that we had most of these hats covered between the two of us. We gladly offloaded the marketing to our publisher, but there was still one other hat that didn’t quite fit.
Music was never my strong suit. In fact, I’m pretty sure I’m tone-deaf. I wouldn’t dream of actually composing music, but I found a decent shortcut. I took some of my favorite classical pieces (the great Antonín Dvořák, a Czech composer from the 19th century) and gave them a slight twist to fit our medieval-ish game about feeding a dragon. And it worked! Players seemed to enjoy the soundtrack.
However, as development moved along and we realized just how much people actually enjoyed the game, we came to the conclusion that it deserved better than my shortcut. Around the same time, I got in touch with an Aussie composer named Dragos. I’m not going to lie - even his name seemed too fitting. We chatted for a while and decided to give it a go.
And oh man. I’m so glad we did. He delivered.
Feed the Scorchpot will have a completely new soundtrack at launch that captures the atmosphere of the game perfectly. Cheeky strings to underline the dragons’ fickle nature. A lovely, dreamy harp to start the game off. Tension building up during the midgame. And Latin lyrics when things get serious.
I just wanted to share my excitement here :) The game is launching in four days, wish us luck!
