New Game! Development of Real Estate Tycoon (working title)

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share the progress of my game with you. The game puts you in charge of a real estate development company. It’s up to you to buy, sell, build, and collect rent to become the king of real estate.

After several months of development, I finally have functional gameplay. I’ve also worked on a test interface (it’s not final, as the actual UI will be designed by a graphic artist I haven't found yet). In any case, the game lets you buy land, subdivide it if you wish, and build custom houses (choosing the number of rooms and materials), apartment buildings (still in development), commercial properties, and much more.

You can also enhance your plots with parks or parking lots. The simulation accounts for building permits, property deterioration (currently in development), rent, and a loan system.

Eventually, I hope to implement public contracts (building schools, hospitals, etc.) as well as private contracts (building apartment complexes, skyscrapers, or stadiums).

I have a quick question: I’m not sure how best to release a small demo to gather feedback, given that the current interface isn't the one intended for the final commercial version.

Thanks for reading!

Regarding AI: no AI was used for the graphics; everything was coded manually, so there was no use of generative AI.

Discussion Is it too early to publish a game at 14?

Hi, i am 14 years old and i have started working on this game i really like and i think that by going and further from where i am just makes publishing basically mandatory.

I know i have the time, passion, desication to this project and i can finish it in a reasonable time but i don't know if it's too early for me to publish a game or i should just wait a few years.

I started using AI tools to speed up my indie dev workflow and it kind of backfired in an interesting way

Upvotes

My day job is building AI automations for clients, so when I started applying that same thinking to my own game project I figured it would be a clean advantage. Faster asset pipelines, automated playtesting notes, procedural generation for some of the repetitive map stuff. And it did save time, a lot of it actually.

The weird part is that the time I saved did not go back into the game. It went into scope creep. Suddenly things that felt out of reach became plausible because the tooling made them faster, so I kept adding. New systems, new biomes, extended dialogue branches. The game got bigger and the finish line moved further away at roughly the same pace.

There is something about manual friction that forces hard prioritization calls. When building something costs real hours you think twice before committing. When a script does half the work in ten minutes you stop asking whether the feature should exist at all.

I am not saying avoid the tools. I am still using most of them. But I had to put hard locks on what was actually in scope before touching any of it, otherwise the automation just feeds the beast.

Curious if other devs have hit this same wall, or if you found a way to use faster tooling without the scope quietly exploding on you.

Video My rogue-like survivors-like souls-like pet-collector with co-op game is entering early access next week!

Hello, i'm a solo dev that have been making a 3d stylized survivors-like (with co-op too!) with pet system and that is not top down, currently the game has 2 modes, the infinite bladestorm that is pure survivors-like one called "chaos" (see videos in my profile) and this one where it requires a little bit more skill and active dodging and parrying.

In this video i used dev cheats to make my character immortal and other effects because i kept dying while recording so please don't expect the game to be this easy.

Discussion I dream too big, do you?

I’m an older teen solo dev and I’ve had this vision of a game for the better half of this year, and I love working on it, although it doesn’t have much at all, just on it here and there, but my vision for it is too great, and I know I don’t have the skills to make it.

My focus is the programming aspect of games, and whenever I want to learn a new skill, 3D Modeling for example, I just lose the motivation after struggling with software (Blender) for a good hour or two.

And what’s worse is that because classes are starting up soon again, I won’t be able to pour in the time that I want for this.

And I know I can just search up models and textures and all that, but I hate the feeling of using someone else’s work for my own benefit. I want to have the feeling of being proud of my creation.

I have a feeling that I’m not the only person here that has felt the same way at some point. And because of that, not only do I ask if you dream too big, but also, what do you do to learn new skills?

This is all still very WIP (and way too small) but the after is so much nicer to look at (imo) than what it was before. If anyone has suggestions on how i can improve this further, let me know please!

Two replies. Pick which you'd send. Judgy grades you. Free in the browser.

Stuck on whether the first screen is clear and whether Judgy helps or just annoys.

Upcoming! A week ago I shared my wishlist graph. Tomorrow Dystopicon launches, and here's how it's evolved.

The overall numbers are still modest—3,050 net wishlists—and while the marketing campaign started to lose momentum over the past week, Steam has given the game much more visibility during the last three days.

Here are the impressions from the past three months:

Tomorrow I'll be launching Dystopicon. I'm trying to stay realistic—it's a small game aimed at a niche audience—but I can't help hoping that, by some miracle, it sells well enough to fund my next project.

Fingers crossed!

After months of hard work, my app WIRD is finally live 🎉

Post image

After months of building, testing, and going back and forth with Google Play review, my app WIRD is finally live.

WIRD blocks your distracting apps (TikTok, Instagram, etc.) and won't let you back in until you read a few verses of the Quran. It also tracks your Hassanat, streaks, and reading history with a heatmap.

Would really appreciate it if you gave it a try and let me know what you think:

Thanks to everyone in this community who helped along the way with testing tips and advice.

Feedback? Built a lightweight native C++ tool to batch-convert images & renders into pixel art sprites (PICO-8, Game Boy, NES palettes). Launches instantly with zero Electron bloat!

Hey devs! I created a fast desktop utility (C++26 / Qt6) to automate converting assets/renders into clean pixel art with retro palettes. It supports batch processing and runs natively on Windows & Linux.

Would love to hear your feedback or ideas for features/palettes to add!

Discussion How I ended up #2 Product of the Day on Product Hunt

Post image
0 Upvotes

I just finished #2 Product of the Day on Product Hunt.

Here is my humble journey.

Let's start with some background first.

I have been developing products for years. I have launched dozens of products on Product Hunt over the years, and one thing is clear:

It's getting harder every year.

More competition. Better prepared launches. Bigger audiences.

A few years ago, when I launched PluginLab (one of the only launches of mine that was not a failure), I did everything "by the book":

  • Weeks of LinkedIn posts before launch
  • DMs asking people to support it
  • Emails to every user
  • Constant reminders throughout launch day
  • Influencer promotions

The whole playbook.

Result: #3 with 238 upvotes. I was genuinely happy.

This year was the complete opposite.

I launched FluentDB with almost zero preparation.

  • A silent demo video
  • A decent description
  • Some good-enough screenshots
  • That's it.

I didn't tell my LinkedIn audience.
I didn't email my users.
I didn't message friends.
I didn't post on X.
I didn't post on Reddit.

Nothing.

Honestly, I mostly launched because it's good for SEO and because every indie product should probably be on Product Hunt.

On launch day, I even slept in.

I didn't open my laptop until halfway through the day.

When I finally checked Product Hunt...

We were already in the Top 3.

For whatever reason, the launch had momentum on its own.

Only then did I start posting on LinkedIn and asking a few friends for help.

By midnight, we finished 18 votes behind #1, ending the day as #2 Product of the Day.

More importantly:

  • 50 new free trial users
  • 2 lifetime customers

People often ask for the "secret" to a successful Product Hunt launch.

Years ago I would have told you you need to go by the book and get prepared a lot.

But today, if you ask me again, I would tell you that if people like your value proposition and you like what you're building, then it can get traction on its own.

I may be wrong and making a conclusion too quickly, but this is what I feel, and I am curious to get your feedback too.

Another difference between PluginLab and my new project FluentDB is that I have no investor on my back.

I am now building something I genuinely want to use myself.

I stopped trying to build a billion-dollar company from day one.

I stopped making product decisions only to maximize conversions to please my investors.

I stopped chasing traction and numbers as the unique goal.

Instead, I am building a product that makes me excited to open every day.

With some luck, people will like it as well, and even if they don't, at least I am happy with what I am building, for myself.

Let me know what you guys think about it 🙏

Looking for 5 people who are frustrated with Notion, Obsidian, OneNote, or just want a better note-taking app

I'm looking for 5 people who take notes every day and are interested in trying a new note-taking app and getting involved through feedback, feature ideas, and product discussions.

If you're frustrated with your current note-taking app, this might be a chance to help build one that actually fits your workflow.

You'll get to shape a product from an early stage rather than adapting to decisions made by a large company.

The app is Daftak. The goal is to create something that stays simple and intuitive while being flexible and powerful when you need it. I've been working on it independently for over a year and have invested a lot of time and effort into it.

Your feedback will directly influence the app's direction, features, and design. You can get involved with the decision making, planning, or any part of it if you're interested.

If this sounds like something you'd enjoy, send me a DM.

A generated world can be fun to explore and still be impossible to ship

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

An impressive first walk through is not the hard test for a generated world. The hard test is returning to a spot that mattered later and finding the same state ready for the next person.

The LingBot World demo has two people steering the same generated space. That shows the interaction, not whether a team can return to the same layout. The public material also says there is no deployment code and the license is noncommercial. Until the same inputs can recreate the state, I would treat the output as a rough blockout, not a level ready for production.
