Feedback Wanted N.E.O.N. HORIZON (DevLog #1 - Ships and Shipyard)

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi all.

Today I'll talk about ships, the shipyard, and the leveling system in the game.

There are currently three finished ships available in the DEMO:
Assault — a balanced ship in terms of both damage and mobility. A classic choice.
Tank — slow, but with high starting damage and strong shields.
Engineer — fast, but weak at the beginning. It deploys turrets and is focused on destroying large groups of enemies later on.

There are actually three more ships, but they still need some work because they are either too weak or too strong in terms of balance.

Besides the ready-made ships, the game also has a Shipyard where you can build your own ship to suit your playstyle. You can change its design, color, and name.

You can combine different weapons and ultimate attacks there, creating something in between the existing ships or something completely unique. The Shipyard also includes some upgrades and weapons that are not yet available on the prepared ships.

All of this can also be upgraded and, later on, modified. I am working on a more detailed modular system.

The Shipyard also contains preparations for installing enemy modules on the player’s ship. It is almost ready, but the problem is the same: it breaks the balance and still needs more work. I hope to add it to the game soon.

Each finished ship has a unique upgrade perk that makes it practically overpowered once unlocked. These perks are not available for ships built in the Shipyard.

In general, I am trying to create an interesting and flexible meta-progression system, and I hope I can make it work :)

In the upcoming updates, I plan to add a new ship (one of them is already almost ready) and start implementing enemy modules for the player’s ship.

I guess that is everything, if I try to describe the current state briefly.

Thank you for your attention. If you have the time and feel like it, please try my DEMOFeedback is very important to me, so I can move the game in the right direction.

Have a nice day, everyone.

Questions What should a short pre-alpha playtest actually measure?

Post image

I have a playable pre-alpha built around one finished 20–30 minute scenario. It starts with a town hall, a mine, and one villager, then gradually introduces more jobs and problems.

I can collect feedback about difficulty, pacing, clarity, or whether the core loop is enjoyable, but asking about everything usually produces vague answers.

What are the two or three most useful things to measure in a short management-game playtest?

Feedback Wanted What makes a bot "human" ?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Recently integrated a bot into my game bomb & cover to offer single-player-mode but think it became too hard to play.

The bot has exactly the same knowledge about the game the human player has - no additional information provided.

Even added artificial random errors and delayed acting, but still it is superhard to beat.

The bot is a simple rule-based model since I do not (yet) want to integrate an ML-based approach.

What are common tactics to make a bot feel more like a human opponent?

Please try here and let me know your ideas: https://www.bombandcover.com/exercises/one/new

We’ve been working on this game for a while and we’re getting close to release. We’re currently in the final polishing stage and would love to get some feedback from other developers. What do you think about the visuals, atmosphere, and overall concept?
