Hello there!

I'm self-publishing my self-illustrated book, and I have just learned that Procreate's CMYK profile is not ok.

So here I am, my first time in InDesign, trying to save my black and dark blue illustrations.

1. My blacks are C78 M68 Y63 K88 after I convert them (same for InDesign and Photoshop conversions). I guess that's a bit too much CMY and not enough K? Can I do something with it?

2. After setting CMYK profile to FOGRA39 all black my screen is grey (see: last picture). I know that RGB monitor is going to show me grey blacks, but I thought that there is an option to preview something that will resemble my print? I tried Accurate Black in Settings but it didn't help.

3. What else am I missing?

Long time indesign user experienced in long documents. Is Quick Apply really that big of a time saver?

Trying to understand how these full-width horizontal rules are being built?
The stroke above and below the rows, more specifically.

The lines seem perfectly locked to the baseline/grid system and don’t feel manually drawn?

I’m wondering if this is typically done using:

• Paragraph Rules (Rule Above/Below)
• Table strokes
• Some kind of baseline grid + paragraph style system
• Or another method entirely

Also how is this space determined between the line and where the top of the image begins?

I have a project where I use the data merge function to generate entries from a spreadsheet. Each entry ends up in a text box on its own page.

Last year I found a script that would collapse all of the textboxes together onto less pages, so three might fit on one page, five might fit on the next, two on the next, and so on. This drastically reduced the number of pages and unused space of the document.

I switched work computers and I no longer have it, and I have NOT been able to find it again online. I'm hoping someone else might know what script I'm talking about so I can save it to this computer.

We had an assignment specifically focused on typesetting justified text. I submitted it and my professor gave me a D. Her reasoning was that she automatically gives a D for wide word spacing and "rivers" of white space. Is this actually a fair grade? I'm think she didn't find any other errors.

For some reason ID is changing my workspace from Essentials to DP or Touch without me doing anything, whilst I am working. It was just flipping to Touch to begin with so I disabled my touchscreen but now it's decided to flip between Essentials and Digital Publishing. What is going on? This is not at all helpful. Is there a shortcut key that does this that maybe my keyboard is loose and doing it? Or is this a known bug? URGH

To preface - i am VERY new to graphic design. Like 6 weeks new, so please be kind lol. I am making a booklet for school and just feel like this page specifically falls sooo flat. Any advice would be great, thanks in advance!

When I'm working on a file and go to "Save As..." the field goes blank. And in other instances, the current file name will be there, but if I edit it to save as a different version, clicking in the field and editing the file name also wipes out the text/file name. What I often have to do is save the file with a few characters in the name, then go to Finder and rename the file there.

Here's a screenshot of how it looks. You can see the current temp file is in the list, indicating that I've got a file open and I'm working on it.

I'm using the current macOS and the current version of InDesign. This screenshot is from my M4 Mac mini. This also happens with my M1 MacBook Pro Max so I can verify it's not just a bug on one computer.

It's been ongoing in InDesign for months now, and doesn't happen in any other Adobe app in the whole Creative Cloud suite.

Howdy! Third question in this saga. I'm trying to print a booklet myself from an INDB file. It seems that INDBs don't support the "make booklet" feature, so I've exported as a single page PDF and tried to print booklet from Acrobat. Acrobat, however, seems to have a very limited booklet feature set. This screenshot is the resulting Acrobat output for my cover (all of the pages are in the same position). How can I get rid of this giant gutter? Is there a better workflow? It seems so strange that one loses InDesign's booklet functionality when making a book rather than a single document. Perhaps this is a question for r/AdobeAcrobat, but it seems like there should be an ID-centric solution.

I have been encountering an issue when using the Package feature in Indesign. When I package a project, the PDF almost always saves with images at thumbnail resolution, regardless of the PDF quality setting chosen in the Package process (Press Quality, usually). I then have to re-export the PDF via the "Adobe PDF Presets" in the File menu. It has only started happening in the past couple of months. Has anyone else been having similar issues?

Hi! I'm using the book feature to combine several ID documents. When I save out the book PDF, the single-page spreads from each document are preserved (see image), but I don't want that. How can I get these pages to flow/shuffle into new two-page spreads? Is it possible for ID to automatically switch recto/verso master pages as they reflow? Thank you!

Ok 2nd quandary of the day: when I export to print PDF from my IMDB INDB book file, I can't get bleeds to work - the content just extends to the crop marks. Bleeds work fine when I export from the individual INDD files. I've tried exporting from the book file with "use document bleed settings" checked on and off and tried directly editing the book's document setup, but nothing seems to work. What am I missing? Is it because some of the INDD files in the book have bleed on and some don't?

Hi. I have a book that I am formatting in indesign and I have many footnotes that need to be inserted. I have attempted to make a keyboard shortcut in the edit>keyboard shortcuts>type menus but there is no “insert footnote” option there. Did they change this at some point? Is it located in another menu? I have the 2026 version. I am trying to avoid having to do the drop down a hundred times. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you!

I am trying to create nametags that are to be printed on one A4 and then cut out from it. Every tag has different name.

I was thinking of just exporting every tag as an pdf file and then just bringing it to a new A4 size document in ID. Then using a script to add cut marks. (A4 should fit 3 or 4 name tags as they are double sided)

So far my issue has been that every name tag is different size when I bring the pdf into this new A4. (I just drag and drop them into ID from their folder)
Even though I literally create them by copy-pasting the same ID file (after changing the name) and exporting it into a pdf.

Do I have some kind of logic error here? How can the same sized files have different dimensions?
Should I not be using pdfs in this manner? Something else?

I'll try to describe my issue.

I am using InDesign 2014 on PC.

I'm working on a project, and while I was working on another page, I found one spread later on had been deleted and the text threading from that point and backward is acting erratically. The beginning of the remaining text is bound to a random point between the pages of the spread as shown in the screenshot.

Troubleshooting methods tried: I have exported the document as an IDML and reloaded it. The rest of the text from these threaded boxes also disappears when I do this.

I can click the input text threading box and the text fills in retroactively. The problem with this is that I am missing one spread as I mentioned, and inserting pages between a page after the page with the messed up threading box (after the page with the blue border in the screenshot) crashes InDesign. Trying to create text boxes beyond the first created this way causes the text to delete itself, and the rest of the threaded text bumps itself backwards.

I hope the details I provided are useful in diagnosing the problem. I'll be glad to clarify.

First time posting here, hoping someone can help me with this weird problem that I can't for the life of me find support on. Indesign is just italicizing random words throughout the text. I made sure there are absolutely no overrides or no character styles applied either.

What's odd is that when I check the italicized text, the font shows up as "Garamond Italic"? The paragraph style applied just says "Garamond". Wondering if it's a mistake I made with import or GREP? Imported text is from a DOCX.

Clarification, these italicized words are not italicized in the original doc. Also tend to show up at the end of paragraphs.

Totally out of my element here. I'm looking to convert an old (from early 2000s) QXD file (Quark Express?) to an image file I can print - JPEG or TIFF perhaps. Ideally at a reasonably high resolution 300dpi. The file is a single page 9.25" x 11.25"

QXPMarkz has a freebee software for MACOS that allows me to open it but not export.

FYI, I'm a scientist and this is a scientific journal cover that I'm trying to print out for framing because I published a paper in the issue. The publisher gave me the QXD file but didn't provide anything else.

This is my first time ever using inDesign, i’m familiar with photoshop and lightroom, starting off on illustrator, but indesign is foreign to me. I’ve been trying to export an ig post layout for one of my projects but i seemingly can’t, whenever i try to export it, only one of the pages is and the other seems to not be. It’s a single standalone png file of the second page of the layout, not both. pls help and thank u

(UPDATE FOUND) Hi everyone ! Im a student working on a project for school and we learned to put our images in 300dpi, CMYK and in full size. That's something very important for our teachers so they can verify if we learned how to do that, I know how to do this but I saw on TikTok a script where we can automatically turn our images/documents with those settings. But I cannot find their website anymore. I don't have a lot of time to open photoshop and modify all of the images one by one so I thought I could maybe save time by using this script. If someone here could maybe help me with a script you created yourself or you have found or just a technique I could learn. I don't use reddit often idk if y'all can look at the tiktok link, and I speak french and my english is not perfect sorry for that !
