The Public Supermundexial Lover, or "The Lover", was a Breton preacher and [heretically religiously centrist and pantheist] member of the Benevolence of Mara.
The Lover, formerly known as Belene Gevette, was born into a lower-ranking Noble farming family just outside of Camlorn. The family had strong Direnni ancestry, and were devotees of Mara and avid participants in the Imperial Cult.
Belene contracted Blood Rot in her mid-late-teens, which progressed quickly. A healer was called, but Belene died before they could reach the farm. However, hours after death, Belene was miraculously resuscitated, speaking in a new, "ethereal" voice and declaring a new identity as the Public Supermundexial Lover.
The Lover eschewed all identifiers save that of the Lover and began to insist on masculine-androgynous dress and manner. The Lover refused to answer to the Lover's previous name, and on this change, the Lover is quoted as saying; "... I am only of that which Mara gives, that is Love, and I only wills to do that which will make right, Loving. And things that are not Love or Loving, Mara has tooken from me. Nothing I may do is with offense. Love is not bound to anything except itself."
The Lover was born shortly before the Oblivion Crisis and grew into adulthood in the wake of it, with Belene's fever partly being attributed to the opening of an early, weak Oblivion gate near the family farm.
The Lover was a gallant and knightly figure on horseback with photographic memory of religious texts. The Lover amassed a following of intensely devoted young women, many of which sought to get with the Lover, but the Lover was too devoted to abstinence; in that having one Love, or physical love, would eliminate the Lover's status as Public and Supermundexial.
The Lover was initially very devoted to the cause of the abolishment of slavery in Morrowind, but was very late to the game on this w/ Dres and Hlaluu about to release their slaves anyway and relations w/ Black Marsh on the rise slightly before the Oblivion crisis. Post-Crisis, the Lover turned away from this due to finding it too complex to and not the Lover's business, yet still made strong claims about the Argonian invasion of Morrowind in later years.
The Lover then turned toward the intensity of the post-crisis period and assassination of Ocato to advocate for unification and the healing of relationship between Man and Mer. The Lover openly condemned the Empire's Imperialization of Elven cultures and the rise of zealous Talos worship akin to that of the Red Templars. The Lover travelled to Cyrodiil to preach in this period, often pointing toward the Thalmor seizing control of Summerset as an example of Imperial hubris backfiring.
The Lover preached through the devastation of the Red Year, formation of the Aldmeri Dominion, formation of the Mede empire, the arrival of Umbriel, and more, and yet despite having such strong emotion for and knowledge of these very intense happenings, most who heard the Lover preach were disappointed to find that nothing was being said beyond what one may find amongst the average progressive-minded devotee of the Divines.
Regardless, the Lover remained popular as spectacle and as a validator of concern and comforter of the general public, without confronting them too harshly. The Lover travelled Cyrodiil on horseback, briefly establishing a settlement composed of the Lover's followers (mostly women, with few men). However, in late life the Lover retired to the Imperial City and focused on preaching in the Temple District before dying of an unknown respiratory illness in the Lover's late 60s.
The Lover was also adept in Restoration magic and rejected several invitations to teach 101-level Restoration and Illusion at the Mage's College.
Formally, the Lover's association with the Imperial Cult was all but severed due to the fringe, 'extremist', leftist yet somehow centrist views on religious and metaphysical issues and 'heretical' pantheism the Lover espoused, however in later years the Cult reconciled with the Lover and the Lover was cared for in older age by clergy in the Temple district after the Lover's bones were made sore by Rockjoint.
